Accutane questions...? I am a 17 year old male who is about to start taking accutane in the upcoming weeks. After researching all about it, I still have questions about it.
So how about a basic questions first, am I allowed to workout while taking accutane? I read up on accutane and some of the side effects include joint pain and muscle soreness. I do a lot of weight training.
I've already read an earlier post about taking accutane along with creatine. I go to the gym three days a week and take creatine on those three days. From the other post, they said that the creatine does strain the liver, so I should not be taking the creatine with the accutane. Any more information about accutane and creatine would be appreciated.
Besides taking creatine, I also take whey protein six days a week. Does taking whey protein work well with the accutane?
The final supplement I take at the gym is glutamine. So does glutamine mix well with accutane?
So, enough about taking accutane with various supplements, how about other over the counter drugs. For example if have a headache in the future, is it okay to be taking Tylenol while on the accutane? Not necessarily taking them together, but while I'm still on accutane. Also when I have a cold, I tend to take Nyquil and Airborne (vitamin c supplements). Will there be any problems taking those drugs while on accutane? I believe Nyquil has small amounts of alcohol in it.
Also I take Tylenol Simply Sleep occasionally to help me go to bed. The drug in it is Diphenhydramine HCL. Is this okay with accutane?
I know there are a lot of questions, but accutane does come with a lot of side effects. Better to be safe than sorry. I appreciate all the help I can get, thank you.
Dyint in the Shadows replied: "dude youre soo lucky i wish i could take that. Ima go to the dermatologist tommorow and hopefully he gives me that. But to answer youre question u should ask youre doctor and see what he says i heard that its not good to play sports while youre on that because that actually makes youre bones weaker something like that.."
Andy L replied: "Pick your poison my friend, clear face or a yolked frame?"
Post-Accutane- Questions about a good skin regimin? I just got off accutane and my skin is clear with no pimples and I am very happy. I want to keep it clear and have questions about a regimen, toning and exfoliating because I don't know much about it.
What is a good daily toner to help with oil and shrink pores and what is a good gentle exfoliator and how often to use it?
Katie replied: "Sunday is my last day of accutane. Yay for us!
My doctor prescribed a cream for my face which will help me transition from accutane. A lot of accutane users have washed with Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash (It's orange). That's what I use. Then I lightly put oil free lotion on. Less is more when it comes to products! You don't want to put a lot of different stuff on you beautiful skin! Good Luck!"
Accutane questions: I just started Accutane today. Anyone been on it before? Any suggestions? I already have Cetaphil gentle cleanser and moisturizer and i have lots of aquaphor. How quickly should i start to feel side effects, like the drying etc? My derm also says it is going to get worse before it gets better; does it necessarily get worse or was she just preparing me for the worst, and if it does get worse, how much worse?
Any advice, suggestions, information, anecdotes etc are welcomed.
i have a few questions about accutane? Okay, Im on my second day of accutane and just want more facts.
I have been perscribed 60mg a day for about two-three months, keep in mind that i do weighh 160. Is that too much/ too little of a dosage?
And also i was wondering what the best possible way to keep side affects under control are, suggestions?
accutane questions and information please? is it expensive? what are the side effects you have gone through?
Anastasia replied: "Only use Accutane under a doctor's guidance. Don't try your friend's Accutance, or help yourself to medicines you find in someone's house. Don't buy Accutane over the internet. Accutane can cause terrible birth defects, and is not to be taken by women who are pregnant, or who have any chance of becoming pregnant while taking this medicine. There are excellent sources of information on the proper use of Accutane and the necessary precautions for using it safely."
Just started Accutane and had some questions? So...My dermatologist is going for the last resort...Accutane, and I was just wondering about how it affected some of you who took it. I've heard about depression, drying of everything, and many other problems. I started my first dose this morning and was also wondering how your dermatologist approached the diet of it???Thanks for your help!
spidermilk666 replied: "My sister just got off Accutane a few months ago. She had very bad acne before and had tried many other prescription medications before. After Accutane she is pimple free. She did feel very dried out all the time she was on Accutane though, but she didn't have any other problems. The good thing about Accutane is that you only go on it for 6 months (?) and then never again and it usually fixes your acne.
I don't know what you mean by the diet of it.. sorry."
tracy replied: "i will be going on accutane and people told me you could lose you hair possibly, it could go curly too. my dermatologist said he guarantees that i will have dry skin. your liver could fail. if you get a girl pregnant her baby could be seriously deformed. you could have a change in appetite. Depression/Suicide thoughts. School work could go down too. These are just some things. Some are more serious than others, however they are all rare except the skin drying out, but you can get moisturizer lotion for that."

Ugh replied: "My brother is 14 and the dermatologist recommended that he take Accutane. His face, including his lips, got extremely dry. He was constantly having to put chapstick on and vaseline type lotion onto his face to keep it from drying out so badly. It's been a year or so since he was on Accutane and his face is so much clearer than it was. He has absolutely no redness, he just has a bunch of scars left over from the amount of bad acne that he had. Also, during the treatment his hair got really dry and thin. My brother had to go to a councelor and see a doctor ever other week to make sure his blood pressure was alright and that he wasn't having any signs of depression, but he never ended up with anything serious, just a clear face. :]"
LV702 replied: "Well i have to say that it does work. I had some pretty dry skin for a couple weeks but overall wasnt too bad. I didnt really notice anything else like depression. I cant remember my Dr saying anything about diet, i just ate normal things"
Accutane questions: Washing Face and Initial breakout? I've been on accutane for a little over a month now and so far my face has gotten pretty bad. I just got a girlfriend and I know that she sees this and every time I'm around her I feel like that's all she's looking at. Since I've started taking accutane I've stopped taking 2 showers a day and washing my face twice a day also. I limited myself to just washing my face once a day. I guess i sorta stopped because I thought it might dry out my skin too much. So I was thinking, is washing your face twice a day with cetaphil probably a better idea while on accutane? and my second question is how long does this initial breakout usually last and when should I start seeing improvement here? Thanks
MiaMia replied: "Ok...I have been on accutane and its gets worst before it gets better. You are at the worst part and its only going to get better. Yes wash your face with Cetaphil once in the morning and once at night. And before you know it...your face will start to clear up. If you are on it for 6 months you will see improvement on the 2nd to 3rd month and will be acne free by your 4th to 5th month. Good Luck:))"
Questions for anyone who has taken Accutane or is currently taking it! Hey guys, so I just started Accutane 3 days ago. I've had horrible acne since 7th grade and I'm a Senior in highschool now! So it's been about 5 years and so far I've tried EVERYTHING! My dermatologist has given me every topical and oral treatment out their (besides Accutane) so we finally decided to try it. So anyways, I have some questions that I hope somebody can answer. First, does Accutane make you more susceptible to disease or infection? Like even a simple cold? Because I'm super healthy and I never get sick, but for the past few days I've had a fever with a headache, SUPER sore throat, and congestion. Do you think they are related? Also, I've noticed my acne getting WORSE since I started Accutane..Is this to be expected? How long until it starts working?
Any other tips on what to expect, or what's going to happen is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Accutane Question: After how many pills will I start to get dry skin? I take 2 40mg pills every week. I'm starting off on a pretty low dose I think. So far, I've just taken 2 pills. When does the dryness kick in? I even waxed a week after taking it and nothing happened.
Furface Killah replied: "It depends on the person, usual about a month."
MRS EDWARD NORTON replied: "I'm on 60mg a day right now,
My skin started getting pretty dry within the second month, that's when most of my side effects kicked in too..
I'm on my 4th month now, completely clear
Have You been stocking up with aquaphor?
You know, You get reccomended cetaphil for lotion and face wash.. but it's so greasy, and sticky and thick when it claims not to be.. Use aveeno daily moisturizer.
Any other questions. feel free to message me,"
donamkuhn replied: "AH just about 4 weeks to about 6 wks. and you won't be disappointed, my son and daughter took it and what an improvement. Now they say I got A pimple. Good luck!"
