amoxicillin 500mg cap TEV: take 2 cap 3 x a day 10 days? thats 3000 mg for sinus infection. ALL dosing I have seen calls for 500mg q 8 hrs. don't u think 3000 mg is a bit much?

poster boy replied: "ahh I have to agree with Danny on this one...NO it doesn't seem like a bit much...it sounds like you have a progressive and aggressive Doctor who wants to prevent any chance of low grade infections spreading ... many Doctors do not treat serious infections(like Lyme)in an agressive enough way. I'm not a big amoxi fan but it is cheap."

Is it ok to take amoxicillin 500mg caps and also drink energy drinks? I am taking zmoxicillin 500mg capsules and I am really craving one of my energy drinks. Will it have an effect on me or the medicine?

oops replied: "yes and no it shouldn't have any effect on the medication if its alcohol free."

What would happen if I took five amoxicillin 500mg pills at once? Just wondering and wanting info. What would happen if one were to take 5 apo-amoxi 500mg (amoxicillin 500mg?) caps all at once? (Recommended to take on capsule three times daily.) Any major side-effects? one capsule three times daily*

Red Arrow replied: "TRY YOURSELF THEN SHARE WITH ME"

Everyone's #1 replied: "I can not see any good coming of that. Any time I have gotten them perscribed to me the dosage was to take two daily. Usually one every 12 hours."

Garrett replied: "why would you need that large of a dose? even 3 capsules of 500 is quite a bit. most antibiotics that I've seen only recommend 1 capsule of 100-200 3 times a day. my current one only recommends 1 capsule a day and it's 50mg"

simone m replied: "no it won't kill you but you won't get any better benefits of taking 5, but the effects of the antibiotic will not work anymore because over increasing your dose make your body use to the antibiotic agent an therefore it will not fight an infection, your body will learn the pattern of the antibiotic fighting agent, also may not do you're kidneys any good either"

thebeatlephil replied: "i would imagine your stomach would hurt pretty bad. probably really bad diarrhea"

Faesson replied: "Besides diarrhea? "Overdose symptoms may include confusion, behavior changes, a severe skin rash, urinating less than usual, or seizure (black-out or convulsions)." -drugs.com Of course, if you are allergic, it's a whole new ball game. Why would you WANT to take so much? Back in the early days of anti-biotics, there was no prescribing info to refer to, so doctors tended to use WAY too much... which had the inevitable side effects, PLUS used up a very limited supply of the medicine. So, they actually collected the urine from the patient and processed it to remove the unused anti-biotic which had passed through the kidneys."

Elevate replied: "If you take three capsules daily, then taking two more would probably have you throwing up a lot, possible dizziness."

ZomgZombies replied: "You should take the amount your doctor has told you to take. Side effects for an amoxicillin overdose are: Effects kidney function, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea could all occur. Hope that helped. I dont see the meaning of taking 5 at once? Unless you want a bad reaction, to be on the safe side I suggest just doing what the label on the medicine says. Take care."

Slick 50 replied: "Youd feel pretty sick digestivly. If youre looking to kill yourself go with the ol tylnol route"

Bryan replied: "Take medicine as directed. Full stop. To do otherwise is unsafe and to illegal."

flower1022 replied: "you would probably throw up."

smierzy replied: "Why are you taking it to begin with ? Just taking worthless drugs like that will create side effects to your immune system later in life."

Madam Bloodletter replied: "You would get a bad head ache, nausea and a bad fish smell comming from your cookie."

Comet Wes replied: "You will have wasted 4 capsules since it will be excreted in the same amount of time and won't kill anything more than 1 would. And you will run out 5 times faster and then your infection will come back even stronger because you killed of the most susceptible bacteria and left the resistant ones to grow again. So don't do it."

sursumcorda replied: "http://www.pharmacy.duq.edu/pdfs/pic_question/06/Augmentin%20XR.pdf It appears that the major side effect would be nasty diarrhea. Also you would probably run the risk of developing a yeast infection since you would kill off beneficial bateria as well as the ones you want to get rid of. Why not just take it the way it's prescribed?"

i took 2 of tylenol fast release gel caps about 5-6 hours ago n now i took amoxicillin 500mg caps.is that ok? im scared cuz i might get od or somethin. the tylenol said not to take it wit somethin called acemetatophen or somethin. does amoxicillian contain that?

amestria31 replied: "amoxicillin is an antibiotic, it should be fine. You definitely wouldnt OD from that. Besides, you took the tylenol, 5-6hrs ago, so it should be almost out of your system anyway :)"

joe f replied: "Sure just don't smoke the joint behind the bandaids I'm saving that for work tommorrow!"

smarties replied: "Acetaminophen is the generic name of Tylenol. It , too, is available as an over the counter medication and it is also part of a few other medications including Tylenol 3 (acetaminophen with codeine) and Vicodin (hydrocodon with acetaminophen). The maximum dose of Tylenol (=acetaminophen) per day is 4000mg. So as long as you take less than 4000mg in 24 hours and stay away from alcohol, you will be OK. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and taking it with Tylenol doesn't cause any problem. In fact, many times these 2 medications are prescribed together to fight a bacterial infection with with fever."

Crouching F150 replied: "Johnny, don't sweat it, you're totally fine, tylenol=acetaminophen. Amoxicillin doesn't interact with the tylenol."

chantal m replied: "the active ingredient in tylenol (trade name) is acetaminophen (generic name). That is why you can not take acetaminophen and tylenol togethor .... they are the exact same drug. Amoxicillin can be taken safely with tylenol. No worries ... C"

I've been prescribed Amoxicillin 500mg caps 1 x 3 a day for 5days. Can I have alcohol at all while on these There is no paperwork in the box. I was prescribed them by my dentist for an infection under my new filling. I don't know if you are aware, Lulu Ann, but you sound extremely condescending, suggesting that I might have difficulty refraining from having alcohol while I recover!!!! That was NOT the question, or the issue, and I object to your insinuation.

Beth H replied: "Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and no, you should not consume alcohol while taking this medication."

redbone_lds replied: "Truthfully you are not suppose to drink alcohol with any medication. Amoxicillin is a substitute for Penicillin it is a very strong antibiotic. I would not recommend drinking until you are through taking the medicine."

Lulu Anne replied: "Skip the alcohol while your body is pending itself. Remember you are taking medicine for a reason, surely you can refrain from a couple of drinks till your body recuperates and fights off what it needs to. By the way, it's against the law for a patient to receive prescription medication without the "paper" which details all the pros and cons of taking the medicine. My boyfriend learned the hard way and took an antibiotic without reading the important info enclosed. He was highly allergic to the medicine and swelled up like a balloon. Any future questions, call your local pharmacy (Longs, Rite Aid, etc;) Get well!"

Tique replied: "Actually you shouldn't have a problem with alcohol and amoxicillin. If it's in moderation it won't cause you too much hassle. the only antibiotic that you should definately not consume alcohol with is metranidazole which will make you violently ill, or make the alcohol taste awful. Hope your tooth improves soon!"
