Amoxicillin No Prescription Information in Answers
Can I use Fish Mox instead of prescription Amoxicillin? Are there any real differences between Fish Mox and Amoxicillin?
The ingredients list nothing other than Amoxicillin. Couldn't I be saving lots of money by taking Fish Mox instead? Is there any good reason not to?
Hugh G. Rection replied: "It's forumlated for animals, and doesn't adhere to FDA regulations for human consumption. So it's not recommended.
Although...a fish is a living organism...and while I can't recommend that you take it because that would be unethical...I can say that you wouldn't necessarily come to harm because of it.
Just make sure you definitly have a bacterial infection, otherwise you're just wasting your time."
Is it safe to take amoxicillin without a prescription? I was wondering if I have a really bad cold that involves a really bad cough that is due to mucus build-up, is it safe to take amoxicillin that wasn't prescribed to me but could have been prescribed for the same strain of sickness.
donnabellekc replied: "Especially if you have never taken amoxiciliin, it can be dangerous. You could be allergic to the medication. Allergies to this are common. My husband and son both are allergic---even to the point that their throat feels like it is closing up. Be safe"
pathfinder replied: "It is illegal to transfer medication from one person to another, and no, it is not wise, or safe."
Sonora M replied: "No and hell no! Are you nuts?
If it's a cold or a flu, amoxicillin is not going to do a thing to cure it.
Take lots of fluids, drink hot tea, maybe try Mucinex to thin out the mucus. And stay home, we don't need to get your nasty bugs."
nutstainz replied: "hahah no. if it wasnt perscribed to you, it means that it was perscribed for a differnt illness even if u *think* you have the same symptoms. go get your own perscription"
yogie bear replied: "How do you know you have the same illness? Did you actually see a doctor? Everybody is different and your body reacts differently to medicine than someone else. Besides, amoxicillin isn't usually prescribed for a COLD!! It's for infections."
Calina replied: "You should NEVER take medication not prescribed to you and colds are usually caused by a virus, not bacteria so antibiotic would be useless any way.
If you think a secondary bacterial infection has set in, see your doctor. Best to use antibiotics, though, only when absolutely necessary. Antibiotics have been and are overused and they are too many resistant bacteria strains out there because of that."
Joe B replied: "NO!
First of all, amoxicillin is an antibiotic. Whomever it was originally perscribed for should have taken all of it for their course of therapy, therefore none should be left over.
Second, if you do have part of a perscription that belongs to someone else, you do not have enough for a full course of treatment. Taking in for too short a time is likely to not completely eliminate whatever you have, and it will come back in a more antibiotic form."
cameron lally cscs replied: "If it's just a cold than your amoxicillin won't help. Even having mucus doesn't indicate that you have an infection. Antibiotics don't work on viral infections. Best to go to your doctor to make sure of a diagnosis."
Rairia replied: "A cold is not cured by anitbiotics, which amoxicillin is. Misuse of antibiotics is part of the reason why there are so many "super infections" out there. If you have a cold with mucus build up, try an over the counter remedy. If you need to get the mucus out of your lungs, get something with an expectorant (like Robitussin DM). If the mucus is in your nose/facial area, then get something with an antihistamine (benedryl, tylenol cough and cold). Only a doctor can determine if you need an antibiotic, don't decide for yourself."
jacj ainshowor replied: "ya if ur sick why would u go to the store for a cold when u could take same thing at home just dont overdose stupid friends."
sonyack replied: "A cold is caused by a virus, so is the flu, and antibiotics do nothing against viruses. Doctors are supposed to avoid prescribing antibiotics lightly, but they are the worst offenders in the whole business - they hand antibiotics out like candy, to shut people up, to avoid being sued in case the patient also has a bacterial infection....
The antibiotic will do nothing for a cold, and will deplete your system of beneficial bacteria, giving room to things that are not beneficial."
Can I take amoxicillin without a prescription? I have had a UTI before and my doctor had me take amoxicillin. I think I have a recurrence because the symptoms are back. I have amoxicillin in the house. Could I take some, following the same directions I had when I first was using it for this? Or is that not a good idea? Please advise.
RayeKaye replied: "If you still have some in the house, it means you didn't finish your original course and that's why the symptoms are back. You need to see the doctor, have a urine culture, and take the full prescribed dose of whatever antibiotic he gives you based on the culture results and what the particular bacteria is susceptible to. Taking only part of an antibiotic prescription will only kill the weak bacteria, but some will survive and thrive...and are probably now immune to amoxicillin. That's actually kind of an odd Rx for UTI anyway - there are many others that work much better - but you need to have a culture to find out which is best."
hakka26 replied: "If you didn't finish the first prescription then that is part of your prob. You must finish all antibiotics for the full treatment. I doubt that you now have enough for a full treatment and will only make things worse. The answers are no and it's a bad idea. Go see the doctor."
123*** replied: "No you should not take it. 1. Amoxicillin is not a commom medication prescribed for UTI's, therefore you should probably see a doctor. 2. The doctor needs to conform that you do have a UTI, by taking a urine smaple and 3. Why do you have amoxicillin in the house?? You should ALWAYS finish all prescriptions prescribed to you (and never take anyone elses) despite becoming symptom free during treatment. This prevents the occurence of super infections."
katieu replied: "Self-medication is not the answer. You need to see a doctor to find out what is going on. Taking the amox may just prolong whatever is attacking your systeml"
I was diagnosed with strep throat on Fri and was given a prescription for Amoxicillin 875 mg.? I am taking 2 pills a day and today I have noticed that my cheeks are tingling and have like a burning sensation. Is this an allergic reaction or just a side effect that will go away?
I have taken amoxicillin before but not such a high mg before. Was thinking that maybe I need to go down to one pill a day?
weslaf0313 replied: "mani got that from tossing salad, i didnt get those effects though. call the pharmacy and ask the side effects and tell the paharmacist what you are feeling"
Keyana B replied: "that sounds like an allergic reaction. u should call the doctor and let him/her know of your symptoms."
dcjunk replied: "It may be an allergic reaction. Amoxicillinin is a penicillin. Are you allergic to penicilling? Are you having problems breathing or swallowing? If this gets worst, you will need to go to the ER for treatment. In the mean time, if you can not get there fast enough, Benadryl, 25mg, can help until you get to the ER.
Would not recommend decreasing the dose to 1 tablet. If you have a true infection, it needs the dose prescribed. If you take a lower dose, it may not kill the bug and you will develop drug resistance, meaning its harder to kill the bug and it will need higher doses next time.
If these burning sensations and tingling in the cheeks persist, contact your doctor immediately. If you have problems breathing or start developing a rash or hives, go to the ER immediately.
PLEASE DON'T REDUCE your dose.
Augmentin XR, 875mg tablets is recommended to be given twice a day. If you have kidney problems, then the dose needs to be reduced. The XR means extended release so you can take the medicine 2 times a day.
If you were prescribed Augmentin, its 500mg to be given three times a day.
PLEASE talk to your doctor who is most familiar with your medical history and don't take advice from others who don't know your medical issues... it can get you in trouble if you start decreasing or increasing doses."
STEVEN replied: "Dear ncgirl79
Amoxicillin belongs to the Penicillin Antibiotic Family of Drugs only Prescribed by a Doctor and as a result thereof your Doctor will have told you the doseage to take per day and it's frequency and therefore this should not be exceeded except under Medical Authority of your Doctor or Local ER Department of your Hospital.
Just because you have never experienced a reaction to this drug before, this does not mean that it cannot happen and
1,750mgs per day seems to me to be too higher doseage for your condition and this may well be the cause of your problem.
In the first instance, I would suggest that you reduce your doseage by half to one tablet per day taken in the morning, either before or after breakfast and see if this clear's your symptoms. Under no circumstances whatsoever must you stop taking this course of medication without your Doctor's authority.
If after reducing your medication to one tablet per day, your condition as not improved, then either you are experiencing a reaction to Amoxicillin, or there is something you have not told your Doctor about before it being prescribed to you.
If you have not told your Doctor about any of the following, then this you should do without delay:-
* You have a long term kidney problem.
* You have an allergy ( for example, asthma, hay fever, or eczema ).
* You have had a previous allergic reaction to a penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotic.
* You have ulcerative colities.
* You have glandular fever.
* You have chronic leukaemia.
* You are taking other medications, prescribed, or over the counter.
Further to the symptoms which you are experiencing of tingling cheeks and a burning sensation, it is not un-common for Amoxillin to cause what is called a Breakthrough Bleeding and this should be discussed with your Doctor for elimination of this condition being present.
In conclusion, reduce the doseage to one tablet per day as stated above and see how this goes for you."
Can stopping a prescription medication (amoxicillin) delay a woman's period? I have been taking amoxicillin (1500 mg per day) for the past 3 years, and just quit about a week ago.
My period is about 3 days late and I'm wondering if stopping my medication could be a contributing factor?
Karaborr M replied: "I can't imagine any reason why someone would be on an antibiotic for 3 years.
Antibiotics destroy the good and bad bacteria in the stomach. The good bacteria promote health.
I would imagine you must be suffering terribly from yeast, bladder or kidney infections because of the antibiotic you have been on.
If you've been on the antibiotic for all of these years because of any of those problems then you should #1 find another doctor. #2 go to the health food store and pick up a good probiotic and start on it immediately. I'd also get a good digestive enzyme. Bot of these will help the stomach normalize again.
Anytime a woman takes an antibiotic she should take a probiotic at the same time and continue for a couple months afterwards.
FYI, if an antibiotic doesn't work in 10 days it may not be the right one for the symptom. Long term use of the antibiotic only builds up your bodies resistance to it's effectiveness.
Not sure about your other question about if going off the antibiotic will affect your menstrual cycle.
Hope this sheds some light"
cjcardamone2002 replied: "Yes, it most certainly can! I looked up the answer for this question on the web and didn't see that as a listed side effect, but any time you introduce or remove a foreign chemical from your body it is bound to respond any way it knows how. Honestly, you should never quit a medicine cold turkey without discussing it with your doctor. I know it's only an anti biotic, but your body has gotten used to having it and there has got to be some symptoms of withdrawel going on even if minor. My suggestion is tell your doctor you stopped taking it imediately to see what it might do to you and if you have been sexually active, prepare to take a pregnancy test in a couple of days anyway. Hey, it can't hurt!"
Amoxicillin prescription costs? I'm in a Social Science class and I am looking for some information for a project that I am working on concerning the cost of prescription medications. If you are taking, or have ever taken Amoxicillin. I would LOVE to have your response to any of the following questions:
If you didn't have insurance of any kind, what is the most you could afford to pay for a months supply of this superscription?
What do you think a reasonable price would be for this prescription before insurance costs?
Would you be able to afford to fill this prescription if you did not have insurance at it's current price?
What city/state do you live in?
Thanks everyone! :)
Rachelle replied: "I do not have prescription drug coverage, and the most I could afford is $10-$20.
A reasonable price is $5-$10 for Amoxicillin
I paid $4 for a 30 day supply at Walmart, which is very reasonable, so yes I can afford it.
Iowa."
Cammie =] replied: "I do have insurance because I have a great job. I am fortunate to be able to say if I needed it, I could pay more than a reasonable price for it.
Amoxicillin is a cheap drug because it has been around forever. The longer a drug has been around the cheaper it gets. There aren't huge firms or chemists or researcher getting big cuts of whatever is paid for it right now - yes I would be able to fill it at it's current price without insurance, even if I was poor. - Go Walmart $4 prescription plan!
Kansas city, missouri"
Can you buy antibiotics (Amoxicillin) in Tijuana, Mexico without a prescription? Currently in a coverage gap with health insurance. Have a sinus infection that comes nearly every year from mold.
By the time I hit the Doc's office and get a prescription we'll be out $250..
We are close to Tijuana and if we can buy the same thing there at a "real" pharmacy, I suspect that I can be out only $100 after all is said and done.
Thanks for replies from those that have done this.
I would appreciate the recommendation of a pharmacy in Tijuana if you have experience with one.
To Tabru - Why not put your computer keyboard to better use instead of making an ass out of yourself?
No one cares that you have "good insurance"
What an ass you are!
To the "Costco" poster.... did you even READ my question before you answered?
McKeag replied: "Yes, but they will be confiscated when you try to cross back into the USA."
mattopai replied: "Yes, it is available. But the thing is finding the best place to buy it. A problem with buying it in Mexico is that it may be fake or cut below the strength you need or think you are buying. As for a pharmacy I recommend that you find the newest and most modern looking one. They will probably tend to be honest in what they sell you."
pep replied: "I have lived in Mexico 3 years now....and I have never had a problem with pharmacies. For instance, I was paying $40 in the US for birth control, and when I ran out here, I went in to the pharmacy, looked up my pills, and bought some without a prescription. I now pay $8 a box! Also, (and I DO NOT promote this) you can self-prescribe here. If you are feeling sick, and you KNOW what it is.....you can ask for just about anything in a pharmacy. I have purchased Amoxicillin MANY times here....most doctors automatically prescribe this for any infection. A box is VERY inexpensive.....I would stock up on a few. The most popular chain here is Farmacia Guadalajara (they are in EVERY city in MX and very reliable). They carry the largest supply of meds plus any imported health care items. Good luck!"
Zuly replied: "yeah you can....my parents buy medicine there all the time without a prescription.....and it's alot cheaper too."
carinyosa99 replied: "You definitely can and I have never heard of it actually being confiscated (although I know the US can do it).
We bought Tetracycline when we were in Nogales (border town in Arizona) and had no problems.
I lived in Mexico City for a little while and got very sick. My boyfriend took me to a Sanborns (it's a department store type place that also has a pharmacy section) and talked to the pharmacist about my symptoms. They know more than doctors as to what is the best medication. The point though is to speak to an actual pharmacist, and not just a person who works there."
Tabru replied: "Sorry man, Just bought a bottle for $16 875mg...Good insurance definitely helps!"
JoLynn11 replied: "yes, but they not be as good as the ones in the states
the pharmacies seem to be everywhere"
pastrbuzz replied: "Yes you can- I live in Baja and sometimes buy meds at a "Roma" pharmacy- but you can basically tell a good one by the way it looks- if they have put money inot making it clean and professional looking- then it's very likely an above board place.
You can take them back into the US if you have a prescription- and there is no reason you can't go down to Playas de Rosarito and go to the "Cruz Roja" (Red Cross) just off the main street (ask anyone where it is for directions- or drive south until you see a red cross sign) and see a Dr. for $7.00. They have quite a few English speaking Dr.'s and they will give you a prescription that you keep- goto a pharmacy- get your pills, have some tacos- go to the beach, catch a circus for $1.00 and then go home happy and healthy!
You may be able to do all of this closer to the border- ask when you cross where the closest Cruz Roja is!!"
nithya s replied: "hi check this link its good
."
Salvatrucho replied: "yes you can but beware of sting operations. There are a lot of sting operations in place by Tijuana police and DO NOT let them catch you with it because last time they threatened "federal prison" for attempting to smuggle contraband into the US. So be very careful of those bastards. There are a lot of pharmacies at the entry of the border. DO NOT take your car inside for safety reasons. If you run into any trouble call these numbers:
(202) 647 5225 -US Crisis Management
011526646227400- Tijuana US Consulate
Please be careful and don't talk back to Tijuana Police they are thieves in disguise. Normally the pharmacies on Revolution are the cheapest ones. Rosarito and more south are more expensive."
baluscher replied: "Yes you can buy them in Mexico and confiscation is not likely.
But why go to Mexico. You can get Amoxicillin at Costco for about $5 for 30 tables. Of course, you will need a prescription, but if you go to a doctor you can get that as part of the visit.

Should I go buy and take this amoxicillin before the root canal tomorrow? I took a week's worth of amoxicillin prescribed from the first dentist. The pain in this tooth pretty much is gone and is just a little sensitive sometimes. The root canal is for tomorrow with a different dentist. I didn't fill the amoxicillin prescription this second dentist gave me last week because the pain had subsided. Anyone with the knowledge think it make much of a difference if I go buy and take some amoxicillin just for a day before the root canal tomorrow?
peanut replied: "It would not be a bad idea. Go ahead."
Ginger replied: "It wouldn't hurt. You will may get a temp for two weeks before the crown comes in anyway."
Lisa replied: "if your prescribed the amoxicillin, you should get it filled, and take the FULL COURSE of antibiotics. Sure, the pain may have subsided, but even with that, there still may be a residual infection that needs to be kicked out. Even after the root canal, any bacteria could kick up and turn into a big infection in your jaw, and that infection can spread and injure other teeth near the original infected site, causing a need for more root canals.
I know, it's irritating, but totally worth it. I thought I was fine because the pain subsided in my tooth as well, but two days later it came back with a vengeance, and my jaw was swollen because such a massive abscess decided to show up overnight. Now, I'm still taking the amoxicillin because I let the infection get too large for one round of antibiotics to take care of.
So just suck it up and take the pills every 6-8 hours as directed, it's soooo much better then going through the pain of an abscess :)"
I have a prescription for Amoxicillin and Cortisporin ear drops. I can go to CVS, pay and get $25 gift card.? Or I can go to Publix and get Amox for free. Or I can go to Target get Amox for $4 and get a $10 gift card. What should I pick?
gly15 replied: "Most pharmacies will match other pharmacies prices if you ask. You may be able to get CVS to let you have the amoxicillin for $4 (it's dirt cheap for pharmacies to purchase) and still get the $25 gift card."
