Has anyone had experience with Soma plus Aspirin and codeine and Darvacet or ultram at the same time? I have been in pain for quite a long time. I am going to a Rheumatoligist a few times a month and getting numerous testing done. So far the only thing he has found is that I have a Vitamin D deficiency. I am currently taking Soma plus Aspirin and Codeine and Darvocet. I have been switched to extended release Ultram but have not gotten the script filled yet. The Soma and Darvocet used to work at keeping my pain away but I am now being awakened by it so thats why the switch to the extended release Ultram. I just wanted to know if anyone has taken this combo of meds for long periods of time and if they are now experiencing adverse effects of doing so. I don't want to have to take these meds but so far they are the only ones that don't make my symptoms worse so I really have no choice and I am afraid of the long term effects. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Oh and if it helps, I only take them at night before bed, I can't take the meds while at work. I have had three different doctors plus my pharmacist tell me its ok to take these meds together. The amount of pain that I am in by the end of the day is terrible. I am asleep so I don't get a high off of them and I don't take them during the day. A small part of the pain that I have is stabbing pains in my legs, arms, bottoms of my feet, in my ears and on top of my head. I also have other symptoms but tjis is the worst. There are no other medications that take this pain away enough for me to sleep. I have had to choose the lesser of two evils and take these medications. If I don't take these meds I do not sleep at all. I am just worried about the long term effects of these meds. Also if anyone knows of any other treatments for this severe kind of pain. I would love to stop taking them...but thats not possible until a different treatment is found.

Tattoodmary replied: "if you take anything for a extended period of time you become immune to it and it takes more of the pills in a higer dosage to make it work. Switch to something else. and it cant be healthy to take that many pain pills mixed together."

lois d replied: "read labels one i do know aspirin will deafen ears you must be flying high on all those pin med does your doctor not tell you do not mix them those things are not good mixed best tell your doctor or find a new one."

pickles replied: "I was on all kinds of stuff after a severe ankle operation. You need to go to a pain manager they are great with combining drugs so they interact with each other if you were in chicago i could tell u who to see"

nursekuba replied: "Darvocet doesn't do much, generally speaking, and Ultram is only a little better. Do they know what is wrong with you? I agree with going to see a pain specialist for pain management help."

Opana ER 20mg (oxymorphone) question on side effects? i have chronic pain now for 7 years im 23 male, join / muscule / abdominal ... whole body.. extreamly hypermoble joints! seeing a rheumatologist now and hes got me starting phy theraphy , and Opana ER 20mg.. i also have chronic constipation and genital pain, with all the other pain. sometimes loss of sensation in left foot or both, and left arm. terrible pain! started taking the Oxymorphone and i got some bad side effects, : weird sensations like liquid moving through abdominal muscles abdominal pain/discomfort headache URINARY RETENTION generally feeling awful from this med, not sure yet if it helps any concidering the side effects think this pain med gives me more pain then it helps PLEASE post if you think these side effects will go away if i keep taking, (get used to it) or get worse, or if you think im alergic in some way. also was planning on asking the dr. for a dif med, like oxycodone less mg 5-10mg and med called soma to boost the effects so its effective at the lower dose with less side effects, comments on that aswell please, thanks

Rachel T replied: "These symptoms are not side effects, they are allergic reaction to the medicine. You need to contact your doctor and let them know what you are experiencing and get the medication changed. There are other meds that you can take that may not give you these same problems, You may just be allergic to morphine. I am, but can take Dillaudid, which is synthetic morphine. You could also try Demeral or OxyContin. All of these drugs come in an extended release formula too, just like the Opana. But it is very important that you call the doctor in the morning and let them know the symptoms you are experiencing since these are allergic responses and are not likely to go away with continued treatment. In fact, the more you take, the worse it could get."

lorcet/soma urine test? I took a couple Lorcet and 1 soma EXACTLY 17 days ago (Jan. 19) and my company did random urine drug screenings today. Would that show on a test as anything bad? What about soma? I know nothing about it & have only taken two in my life. Would that effect passing a drug test? I am a little concerned because I DONT have prescriptions for these and was given them by a friend. Is lorcet just codine because I do have a prescription for a cough syrup with codine from Dec when I had broncitus?

....Jeff H....[top reporter] replied: "Don't worry, you'll be fine. Those drugs metabolize very quickly. Marijuana, on the other hand, tends to linger longer."

getcha tissues ready replied: "Lorcet is Hydrocodone which is out of your system in three days. Somas I am not too sure about, but Benzodiazepines are the pills I know that stay in your system the longest. Soma is not a benzo but those stay in your system for about 20 days with a 10 day half life."

350mg of Soma 3 hours ago....back still hurting. Should I take another? i also had 3 cocktails this evening. i have chronic back pain: most notably several herniated discs, also muscle tension and knots i have been on many pain killers and muscle relaxers. most give me bad side effects ( a lot affect my sleep). hydrocodone, darvocet, tramadol, percocet etc i understand that most will say not to mix alcohol and scrips at all. id really apprciate some advice from some eople that can empathize with my situation.. btw...the reason its bad tonite is that u moved furniture (my basement flooded, i had to!). i also got a cheap mall back massage that left my muscles writhing

Charlie replied: "I also take Soma, 350mg and hydrocodone, oxycodone, Neurontin, and other nerve damage meds for a spine injury. My Soma Rx is for 2x day 350.mg.. There have been days that I didn't need to take one during the daytime. There have also been nights that I have taken 2 when I am having a bad night of pain. I think as long as you don't make a habit of it there is no problem. It's when you start doing it all the time or you run yourself out of them due to taking an extra one too often. I know how you feel when you just get tired of hurting and you just want to go to sleep. Here is a link that may help you. It is the best 4 back pain exercising sites on the web. Good luck "

I am on Vicodin and Soma for back pain....? I took 2 vicodin and 1 soma and 2 hours later a tylenol 3...what will the effects be? Please help soon...I am already feeling reeeealy good and sedated...Am I ok to go to sleep? It was dumb I know but i had a BAD day...kids are all away and I want relaxing...well I feel drunk and WAYYYY relaxed....

DynodiKk replied: "That's SOOOOOOOMMMMMMAAAAAAAAA for you, A drug that makes you feel sedated."

dizzyA replied: "The really good feeling is the vicodin most likely, you must have an extremely low tolerance, and the tylenol 3. The sedated feeling is the soma, it's a pretty strong muscle relaxant, and the others are opioid pain relievers, that'll give you euphoric effects. You're fine to go to sleep, drowsiness is a side effect, and unless you're having respiratory problems, you're golden"

Fentanyl patch - how long until it kicks in for first time users? As a followup to another question I asked, I was just prescribed the Fentanyl 50 mcg/hr patch for chronic pain. Up until today, I've been taking Norco 10mg 4-5 times a day and Soma. Well actually I still am, I am planning to start the patch tomorrow, it is still scaring me a bit to start something new. My question: I've read everything I can find on it, and can see that it can take up to 24 hours it says for the maximum effect to be achieved in your body. But, for the 1st time -- would I start to feel any of its effects within a few hours (not the full pain killer effect, but at least partial)? Or is it going to be 12+ hours before I feel anything at all and then it will just kind of suddenly hit me? I'm just trying to plan so that I have a family member with me at home when I first start it just in case anything bad were to happen. With short acting pills, it's easy to time since they kick in within 30 min or so usually. With this, I don't know at all? Thank you all again! If anyone is still seeing this question, 1 more sub question: How much stronger [not exactly of course, just a rough estimate, say like 2x or 1000x] is this medicine than hydrocodone? When I first took hydrocodone, I got a tiny bit sick to my stomach. I didn't throw up, but just didn't feel all too well. I'm guessing that I will be sick with this then too probably? arg. That scares me also. I am lost on how strong Fentanyl is compared to hydrocodone [vicodin] really I guess and don't know what to expect. If anyone has experiencing with this medicine, and had gotten sick from other opiates in the past, that would be really helpful to know how this one took to you. Or maybe I can hope to be lucky since my body is more used to opiates in general now, and I can hope not to get sick.......maybe just wishful thinking?

Jamie replied: "Yes, at least 12 hours."

heatishellinflorida replied: "Well it took me 48 hours, and another person I know72, so I would at least say 24. Fentanyl is stronger than Heroin, it peaks higher, (Dr's won't say that but it is true) 100 times more powerful than morphine. I am considering getting them myself. Just afraid using such a fast acting opiate, nothing will ever work on me again.I don't care how slow it is disperesed it peaks super high. I have a bad back and was on methadone for pain for two years and weaned off that, tell me how it goes, PLEASE,."

D C replied: "Fentanyl is the strongest painkiller on the market. That is why you're given micrograms instead of milligrams."

Vicodin (legal use) effects not very good, would oxycodone's effects be the same? First of just to get it out of the way, I'm not trying to abuse drugs, I have prescriptions for a chronic pain condition..... I took Darvocet and Soma for about 4 years. My condition has gotten worse and the pain has increased over the past year or so pretty steadily. So about a month ago I started Vicodin ES and then changed to Norco [same amount of hydrocodone, just much less tylenol, since it is for long term use]. So I've been taking the Norco [about 10mg hydro] the 5 times a day as prescribed. But there are 2 downsides so far...... 1) The pain relief is a bit better than darvocet, but it's still not dramatically different. I was expecting more I guess, but every little bit counts. 2) Ever since starting the hydrocodone, even with as little as about 15mg a day at the beginning, I haven't been feeling so well. Just low energy and not "well". I'm not really nauseated, just don't feel very good. I hoped it would go away, but it hasn't after a month. Shoot, I'm out of room. I'll add.. My neurologist originally suggested using MS Contin, which I guess is long lasting, and I think is "oxycodone". But I wanted to stay on the lowest dose and pain med possible for as long as possible. But since I'm not getting relief I was wondering if oxycodone's effects are normally about the same as hydrocodone's? I know every body is different and responds differently, but I guess most I was wondering how closely those 2 meds are related and/or if there is anything else that could be suggested? thank you There's no possibility that my condition will physically improve, all I can hope for is to control the pain. I've tried every alt. medicine available, none did anything. Medication is the only that that helps, and for people that need it, I don't think there's anything "bad" about it thanks for the help everyone. especially as to the last comment, I understand your situation and it definitely scares me.....but.... I have been doing physical therapy for a few years, it keeps me better than a log :) at least, but does little for the pain. my condition is due to Lupus which is an autoimmune disease. my body literally attacks the healthy cells of my muscles and joints which is where the pain comes in. the problem is that I'm already doing chemotherapy for the lupus and other things to help keep the disease itself as under control as possible, but the pain remains. I can't really function much as it is and it is only getting worse, which is where at least in my mind [rationalized or not, I'm not sure?] I don't have much to loose. I think I finally just came to terms that this isn't going away, and that I'll probably be on pain meds for the rest of my life. so withdrawal in theory wouldn't ever really even happen. my disease isn't expected to ever go away. that my dilema

lindseyinlove replied: "I'm sorry to say but hydrocodon(vicodin), oxycodon(percocet), Oxycontin are all the same strain of opiate (heroin)"

M P replied: "You are smart to not want a high dose level. I hope your doctor is watching your liver & kidney functions closely as all this medication is going to effect these organs. There are pain specialists and perhaps your dr. should refer you to one. I don't know why you have chronic pain, but maybe you should look into alternative medicine for this like acupunture so you do not have to take a much or any of these horrible chemicals. I hope you can do this and will be praying for your success."

us/ness replied: "First of all i would just like to say that my husband was in your same position about 8 years ago. They started him on regulare vicodins, them vicodins ES, Then percoset, then Oxy Cotin. His was for severe and inoperatable back pain. He eventually became addicted to opiates, which is all narcotic pain killers, and his body was sick and withdrawled without them. He lost just about everything from his addiction, not just material things either, eventually almost his family. It is common sense that if you take something everyday, eventually your body is going to become dependent on them to function. And when you don't have them, you will do anything to get them and your body will withdrawl until you do. I don't want to scare you and you are in the beginning stages and i know you are probaly reading this saying "not me", but the route you are taking, it is going to be you. Eventually, my husband got sick of living with an addiction and went to his doctor for help. HIs doctor or myself never doubted he was in pain, there was medical proof, but the addiction was ruining his life. His doctor entered him in to a pain management clinic, where he went through physical therepy, occupational therepy and physo. treatments. Now he is still in pain , taking non narcotic pain med. and deals with the pain day by day. He would rather deal with the pain then deal with an addcition and lose everything in his life in the process. It sounds like your doctor is working his way up by increasing your medications. Darvocet is one of the lowest narcotics out there, vicodin next, percocet is a little stronger than vicodin, ms cotins can be dangerous, the only thing left for him to put you on is oxycotin or methadone. Both of these drugs are very similiar to heroin. Please be careful, i will keep you in my prayers."

charleejo replied: "I amnot sure if it would help your pain any better, there has to be SOME reason they move people from hydro. to that....I have taken both, I didnt see that one was any better than the other, but everyone is different. Maybe they want you to take it because it is time released. I hope something works for you!!"

Rooster replied: "I am about to be moved up to oxycontin from percocet 10/325 today per doctors orders. It has taken a lot of discipline to only take two percocet a day. I have rheumatoid arthritis and it is worse in the morning, so I wake up and take it. I am kind of scared to do this, but the pain medication has allowed me to play with my kids and regain my life. When I took non steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs; my blood pressure stayed high, I had depression and my stomach was in terrible shape all the time. A lot of the NSAIDs get recalled for stroke/ heart attack etc. My mom has lupus and developed a g.i. bleed from taking them daily. I personally think I'm safer with the pain pills. However, I will say this. If you run out early, the sickness you feel from withdrawal is second to none. It's like a real bad case of the flu for about four or five days, but I don't think it will kill you. I am worried about the oxycontin being hard to get off of. I'd hate to ever go somewhere and forget it, etc. I went out of town once and left the percocet at home. The doctor couldn't call it in over state lines. I was miserable to say the least. Wish me luck."

gbono2 replied: "Narcotics, both of them. So - - - effects the same. Both pain killers. Oxy is more habit forming."

Can you take Vicodin and Soma while breastfeeding? I've read mixed views on this subject and have found that it does pass through breast milk and results in your baby being sleepy but other than that; are there any other side effects? I have a herniated disc (before pregnancy) and also developed carpal tunnel on both wrists while I was pregnant and the pain has been getting worse. I haven't been on any meds up until now but I need to alleviate the pain and have been thinking of going back on my meds. My daughter is 5 months old and I've been trying to wean her off of breast milk so that I can take my painkillers and get cortisone shots, etc. but I was wondering if I can still provide her some breast milk while I take Soma and Vicodin (granted that I'm not abusing them and taking no more than the prescribed 3x's a day)???

Shawn's Mawm replied: "well, i had a c section, and the dr prescribed vicotin for me...and i breast fed for the first 2 weeks i was taking that pain med...so i assume thats ok... i dont know about soma's, but taking them both at the same time can never be good..."

krbx4 replied: "I took vicodin while pg and breastfeeding. My doctor prescribed it to me. I don't know about the soma."

pandora078 replied: "it would be healthier for the baby to be fed formula as oposed to narcotic tainted breast milk."

halfpint6niner replied: "definitely ask your doctor!!!"

roseanna h replied: "The vicodin should be ok. my midwife had me on it after my son was born because of the pain I was in and I was breastfeeding. The somas im not sure about. Always talk to your doctor and let them know what's going on."

mystic_eye_cda replied: "Your best resource for this is motherisk where a trained professional will be able to take into account the age of your baby, the dosages you are taking and tell you if there are any safer drugs. It is worth the long distance charges: (416) 813-6780 - Motherisk's Home Line However, in general it is safer to use medications after your baby is 3 months old because their liver can eliminate the drugs faster. They aren't quite as good as an adult but its a lot better at that age. Also SIDS risks peak at 2 and 4 months, so you are are past that as well. So the sedating effects are a bit less of a concern. It is also less likely that an older baby won't get enough to eat without protesting. So that's another concern that you have avoided by waiting. Then there are the risks of formula feeding, which most people are unaware of, as are many doctors. They are generally completely underplayed. The sad thing is that babies can and do die from formula feeding -even in the USA, even in Canada, even the privileged upper class with access to the best medicines and medical care. Formula contains high levels of contaminants like aluminium and silicone. Soy formula is particularly worrisome with high levels of phytoestrogen, cadmium, and higher levels of most contaminants than milk based formulas. Hypoallergenic formulas often contain MSG. Formula feeding also robs mom of the protective effects of breastfeeding including a reduction in cancer risks, osteoporosis among many others. Risks from Vicodin Because of the long half-life of its metabolite, meperidine is not the preferred analgesic in breast-feeding mothers, although morphine, codeine and hydrocodone are usually considered safe for short-term use Codeine and hydrocodone are often used for mild postpartum pain. The amount of codeine transferred into milk is marginal, although sedation and apnea have been reported with frequent, higher doses. If doses of codeine and hydrocodone are kept low and administered after breastfeeding, few cases of neonatal sedation have been reported. In many respects, morphine continues to be an ideal strong opiate for breastfeeding mothers in moderate to severe pain. Due to poor oral absorption (26 percent), morphine produces only minimal sedation in breastfed infants. Frequent and repeated exposure, however, can lead to accumulation in the infant and should be avoided. This is a pretty good article. Can Carisoprodol (Soma) be lethal at high dose? Anyone know the LD50? Seems like you can take 3500mg plus??? I don't mean to rant but I've been trying to get help with this for days and have gotten some really dumb answers. Sorry if the following does not apply, and thanks for help in advance. So to clear things up: This is a question for educated people please do not give me useless answers. No, I mean 3.5 grams. Not all drugs kill or are even bad for you at any dose. Why is it so hard to get information here? Everyone thinks that any medicine question is for messing around with. Don't you think as a smart culture we should know about medicine and how much does effect the body? These answers are stupid. If you didn't have an answer to my question why would you click on it? For gods sake, can't someone learn about drugs and the way the effect the body, even if bad. How is the next generation going to learn about thinks if they are not educated? If you can help me with my question, do so please. If not, GO AWAY and answer a answer a question you can help with.

Fergus The Funboy replied: "Here is a summary of the data gathered, including the LD50 in rats: "

liz replied: "Very dangerous situation Soma I 've been teching for over 5 years soma and other meds can be lethal ie., meds for pain, muscle relaxers etc. I knew a lady that did this combo and drank alcohol .. she is no longer with us:("

Simonizer1218 replied: "Well, since the LD50 in rats is about 1 gram/kg, 3.5 grams in a full grown adult shouldn't be that harmful. That assumes that we, as humans, metabolize the drug similarly to rats. But high doses of anything can kill you. It's just a question of how high a dose. For this drug, Soma, 3.5 grams doesn't seem like a lot."

I want to take prednisone but am diabetic? I have a connective tissue disease and am currently taking plaquenil and Imuran. But the muscle pain is still pretty bad and I take darvocet, advil, and soma to help manage it, but it just doesn't cut it, it still hurts. I am also diabetic. I would really like to try prednisone to see if it can cut down on my inflammation but my rheumatologist doesn't want to do it unless it's absolutely necessary since it may increase my blood sugar as a side effect. My diabetes is pretty much under control for now anyways, with medicine for it also, and I wanted to know how much prednisone can effect sugar levels? is it dramatic and will always happen? or just a small chance that would be worth the risk? thank you.

mytwodogs60463 replied: "I have diabetes and they tried prednisone and found out it interfers with the medication for diabetes so I couldn't use it. ask your doctor about aleve or neurontin as I used both for pain and they work well."

Papa Rickster replied: "As a former prednisone user, I would highly discourage you from that drug. I am not diabetic so I don't know of any interaction with prednisone and diabetic meds. Here's a source to help you be better informed. "

Happy Bunny to the rescue! replied: "Please just contact your dr. You'll need to anyway to gt the prescription. My dad took prednisone and his face and neck ballooned up in size."
