is it ok to wash with benzoyl peroxide and astringent with salicylic acid? will that in flame my face?
Steven N replied: "ya i tried that i got like alot of ting bumps well just use the benzoyl peroxide wash and use moisturizer also go get alot of fresh air it helps."
mali kalo replied: "thats to much for your skin. use one or the other. you might find one works better then the other so figure out which one you like better and use that. the dryer your skin gets the more oil it will make because it cant make water when its dry so it makes more oil. so if you dry your skin out its just a vicious circle."
I have extremely oily skin. I use a cleanser with 5% benzoyl peroxide. Do i still need an astringent or a? toner with salycilic acid. Also, I used to have acne 2 months back and right now i am considerably acne-free. But i do break out when i am stressed. I want to avoid breaking out again and also i want to make my skin considerably oil-free. Will it dry out my skin too much if i use the benzoyl peroxide cleanser along with salycilic acid astringent or toner?
Jenny23 replied: "Try using lemon juice as a toner/astringent it works for me its natural full of vitamin c which is great for skin and definetely affordable i use once/twice daily with a cotton ball vitamin c is a natural skin brightener/lightener and for me (i have acne oily prone skin) it works great"
Spirit Dancer replied: "I have oily skin to and no wrinkles. Trust me, you'll appreciate that oily wrinkle free skin when you're older. People can't believe that I'm 50 years old. Some people think I'm still in my 30s."

Sara replied: "wash, astringent, lotion and benzoyl peroxide can go on up to 2 times a day"
Acne Products- Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid? My face wash has benzoyl peroxide but most astringents/toners have salicylic acid in them. Is it ok to use the two types of medication together? Should I only be using one product with a type of medication in it or can my cleanser, toner, and moisturizer all have some sort of medication in it?
re animated replied: "I would differentiate the products that you use into a routine, using one this day and the other the next."
Garfield replied: "Dude chill out, acne is God's way of giving ugly people a chance. If we didn't have acne all the ladies in the world would be ours so that wouldn't be fair to the less pretty people"
Anne replied: "Hey, I understand your frustration!
I bought numerous anti-pimple/acne products but it doesn't help at all! I wasted like hundreds over dollars and have no results.
The most frustrating part is.. you think your face is about to be pimple/acne-free and you realize a new one is coming! ARGH!
I used to be in your shoes so I really understand how you feel. Now my skin is perfect and beautiful!
There's a book that helped me a lot - it clears pimple/acne myths and teaches you the real cure! It only took 2-3 days for my acne/pimples condition to improve significantly! This book has been the most talked about among determologists because it will help you prevent future pimple breakouts. Learn more about the book here:"
What is the difference between benzoyl peroxide and hydrogen? peroxide and which is more effective for use as a facial astringent?
normal_cody replied: "hydrogen peroxide is used to "boil" dirt and bacteria out of wounds.
benzoyl perixide is a medicine made specifically to treat skin probs.
definately the benzoyl is more effective."
roxy_gal6920 replied: "hydrogen peroxide is a colorless, unstable, oily liquid, H2O2, an aqueous solution of which is used chiefly as an antiseptic and a bleaching agent
and benzoyl peroxide is a white, crystalline, water-insoluble, explosive solid, C7H5O4, used chiefly as a bleaching agent for flour, fats, oils, and waxes, and as a catalyst in polymerization reactions."
Is it safe to use an Acne Cleanser and an Astringent at the same time? Both products are from Clean&Clear. The Acne Cleanser has 10% Benzoyl Peroxide and the Astringent has 2.0% Salicylic Acid. I want to know is it safe to use both products at the same time morning and night with daily use?
Alex B replied: "It is safe but read the following from a subject matter expert.
"When you scrub your face, you're taking off some of the protective oils and barriers, which tends to lead to rashes and even burns," says Sandy Johnson, MD, a board-certified dermatologist with Johnson Dermatology Group in Fort Smith, Ark. Instead, she says, use a gentle cleanser followed by a moisturizer or sunscreen.
Skin Care Myth No. 5: It's better to get the pus out of a pimple by popping it. "The truth is, even though it feels really good to release [the pus], a lot of it just goes in deeper," says Johnson. "When it goes in deeper, it causes more inflammation that can lead to scarring and spread under the skin. That's why you'll get another one a few days later, close to the first one."
Johnson says it's crucial that people stop picking at their faces. But if you absolutely cannot resist, she says, be sure and do it right. Don't squeeze and pop the inflammation. Instead, use something called a comedone extractor -- an inexpensive tool that can be purchased at most beauty supply stores. Apply firm pressure with the extractor, then roll across the pimple to take it out.
Skin Care Myth No. 6: Facials and microdermabrasion are good for your skin care routine.
This is a popular myth, says Bauman, especially with the proliferation of day spas. But a recent study from India concluded that facials actually cause acne breakouts in 80% of people, Bauman tells WebMD.
"They feel good but have no long-term skin benefit beyond relaxation," she says. "Like microdermabrasion, which merely sloughs off the top layer of skin, they are a "complete and total waste of money.""
Is there such a thing as a Benzoyl Peroxide replacement? I've been using Benzoyl Peroxide on my acne for years and I have never connected it with the mysterious bleach-like stains that appear on my clothes. Until recently, I simply thought my washer was junk. After getting a new washer you can only imagine my surprise when the mysterious stains were still appearing. After doing some research, I found out that Benzoyl Peroxide was the culprit. I use salicylic acid treatments along with an astringent. I HATE the stains, but my face treatment seemed to be working. Is there anything I can buy INSTEAD of benzoyl peroxide that wont stain my clothes?!?!?!?! Please help!
replied: "yes, benzoyl peroxide can bleach clothing and sometimes hair. it can help to take some extra time to rinse your face after using the bp to minimize staining. there really isn't anything out there that would be the same as benzoyl peroxide minus the staining. salicylic acid is not a very good acne treatment because high levels of it are needed to be in contact with the skin for a long period of time to do anything other than dry out your skin. so, salicylic acid peels and things like that could be helpful, but cleansers, toners, and lotions containing it don't really do anything other than irritate the skin. retinoids can be effective in fighting acne, many are prescriptions. if you wanted, you could ask your doctor (you shouldn't need a dermatologist) about getting a retinoid such as retin-a micro, differin, epiduo, tazorac, etc."
Laura replied: "I've been in that situation and there is really nothing you can do about it. There are things you can do to try to reduce the blemishes and get rid of acne/pimples temporarily but you will always be finding yourself cleaning your face or your body depending on where it's at.
I mean of course your acne should go away eventually but for some this is the case their whole life.
I'm 29 years old and have been suffering from these little pests since I was a teenager. I tried all sorts of face washes from the local grocery store and what not, but nothing seemed to work. If anything it would just make my skin dry and itchy.
Literally the best acne face wash I've ever used has been this stuff called clearpores. It has got rid of the acne to quickest and has been a success ever since I got it. It's unique cause of it's herbal supplement you take a long with it that helps your skin from the inside out. I saved money on it at skincleansingsystem.com at the time which was helpful.
You should really look into this stuff and if you can to assure the best results, get the 3 month supply because if it doesn't work it will still save you butt on the return policy.
Well good luck and best wishes."
What should I do about my skin? Using Benzoyl Peroxide, (bad?) effects are showing? I'm 16 years old. For a few years now, my skin hasn't been that great - namely, my forehead was covered with bumps that were either reddish in color or skin colored, it was kind of hard to tell, to be honest. Anyway, I used on a daily basis different products from Clean & Clear (and occasionally Neutrogena), like astringents, facial cleansers, the like. I had like 7 total, and I would use one of them in the morning and one at night. To be honest, they didn't help at all. Just a few days ago (Saturday, I think) I started using a new product from Clean & Clear - Persa-Gel 10, with 10% Benzoyl Peroxide. I put on a bit, mostly around the forehead area, once a day since then till today.
Right now, I'm not really sure if I should continue or not. Besides my skin drying up a bit, which was expected, the skin on my forehead looks different - on one hand, the bumps are less prominent, but on the other hand, it seems as though there are suddenly many, many small bumps all over my forehead, all skin colored, and only a few of the bumps are more prominent. I'm kind of worried, since it doesn't look healthy - I'm worried my skin is getting ruined like this. Should I stop using the product? Should I start putting on some moisturizer, instead? I really can't tell if this is just the product, slowly getting rid of the bumps I had on my forehead and it's not done yet, or if this is me using it too often (I'm using it once a day) or just using it when I shouldn't be, and I should be stopping.
Thank you for any help.
* biqqest nlt fan! :) replied: "i don't think you were getting results because you mixed and matched products a lot. stick to one regimen.
anyway, maybe your skin is peeling?and you NEED moisturizer.if your skin is dry your face will over-produce oil, causing more breakouts. i recommend cetaphil, or clinique 3-step moisturizer[these are both VERY good]."
Megan replied: "hi
i used the same kind of thing as you...and when i stopped it became much much better.
Then i started using a skin cleaning thing and aloe vera jelly cream and it is much, much better.
You can also try to stop eating Chocolate, lots of milk, and cool drinks and your acne will get much better.
clay masks also help alot.

What does it take to get facial skin clean? It seems like no matter what I try, I can't seem to get my facial skin clean enough.
I scrub with hot water, a sponge and glycerin soap. I can scrub until my skin squeaks and feels raw. It makes no difference, because I still end up with a lot of grime on the cotton ball when I follow up with astringent toner. I use benzoyl peroxide cream after the astringent.
What the devil does it take to get facial skin REALLY clean?
Just Me replied: "Start by washing face with plain warm water. It will open up your pores. Cold water will make your pores close up and you can't get as deep of a clean that way. Use Neutrogena Deep Clean Cream Cleanser. Apply to your entire face and neck. Leave it on there for a few minutes. Remove with a wet wash cloth and scrub your face a little while removing the cleanser. Follow up with toner."
Danielle replied: "Well, with all of the irritants you're using, no wonder you get so dirty! Hot water on your sensitive facial skin? Scrubbing hard until it feels raw? Be gentle. Try washing gently and thoroughly with warm water and a mild soap. Pay special attention to the chin, nose, and forehead. (also called the T-zone) Don't wash too often either. All that does is take away the protective oils of your skin away faster than they can reproduce. Without that last protecting layer, your pores will be open for all the dirt and grime to come and and cause blackheads, whiteheads, and grease. And maybe it's the toner that you're finding on the cotton ball; who knows? Try to skip the toner one night and check out the results. Good luck.
P.S. If this is no help, try asking a professional dermatologist. Good luck!"
My face swells with Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid is always ineffective - any other good alternatives? I used Proactiv for the longest time to clear up my break outs. I don't quite have acne, but if my faces goes without a quality cleanser for a while, it can potentially get bumpy and full of breakouts.
Proactiv worked, but it kind of peaked and then flat lined so that while it still maintained my skin's appearance to some degree, it didn't clear up my skin resolutely.
I tried the Clean & Clear three step system, which made my eyes swell up and my face get red and itchy. I used the Neutrogena three-step and the BP in the night lotion had more or less the same effect. I went without the lotion and just used the other two steps, which contained primarily salicylic acid, but neither of them really worked.
I've used generic face washes, astringents, just TONS of stuff! I'm at a loss, as none of them really work. I was considering using that BeFine all natural and organic stuff from CVS as, at the very least, it won't make me breakout. But I don't know.
What do you suggest? Help! :(

Priincess replied: "I have beenprescribed a product names Acnecide....although that is the brand name...
The generic name for it is Benzoyl Peroxide, but you could try using Benzoyl Peroxide on its own, without the Salicyic Acid ?
Let us know how that works out..

ciannaw replied: "SAME PROBLEM!! i went to the doctor an got perscription acne meds. they work like a charm. if you live in canada you have nothing to lose.. they are free :) just explain to your doc the problems with peroxide and such and then you can be perscribed something that will work for you."
Alyss Heart replied: "I've used all of the over-the-counter stuff as well, and I finally found 1 that has worked for me so I recommend you use
Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser
its made of natural minerals AND it is soap-free. What might also be causing your acne is that many of the products that you mentioned not only have the salicylic acids, but have a soapy type of solution that may also be causing the damage to your skin
so you might want to try the all-natural approach, and Aveeno seems to get the job done, the bottle is around $7.00 tho, but hey, you get what you pay for, and like I'm saying try it, it works =)"
jasmin j replied: "try Neutrogena oil free ance wash! it really worked for me and its way better than ProActiv. and don't wash your face alot."
b w replied: "I've had major acne throughout my life...from age 16 and now I'm 28. The only thing that has been pretty effective and not harsh on my face is : DCL revitalizing cleanser 4 and DCL revitalizing lotion 10. These are glycolic acid based. I've been to numerous dermatologists and tried most OTC treatments. So far this has treated my skin the best. You can order these online. Use the cleanser morning and night. Use the lotion after washing with cleanser but before applying let your skin dry for about 10 minutes. It will slightly sting when you first use the lotion and your skin will have that dewy appearence. If you can afford it, get periodic glycolic peels from an athestician (find them through dermatologists and occasionally local cosmetic schools or salons)."
crystal. replied: "my face broke out so much in june and at the time i was using neutrogena acne stress control foam and that dried my skin out so much so i stopped using neutrogena then i started using just soap lever 2000 i think. it got my skin back to the was it was, now i use the foam every 2 or 3 days and the rest just soap then i get egg white and 6 drops of lemon juice put it on my face 2 times a week and my skin is getting way better its fading the acne scars, making my skin soft and preventing break outs also reduceing redness."
voice of reason replied: "Use the regular ivory soap and water and breakouts are stopped in their tracks by Solarcaine Lotion (for sunburns). Its not really the outside of the skin where the problems are - it's foods, exercise, fresh air, enough sleep and plenty of water and good oils that help while a fluctuation of hormones and stress amongst other things which can cause acne. Avoid eating foods cooked in margarine, and hydrogenated oils and shortening. Rather, eat those cooked in olive oil. or butter I have friends that have been helped by taking an 1/8 or a 1/4 tsp of olive oil a few times a day - I guess their bodies needed good oils. Believe it or not rubbing a tiny bit of olive oil into your face once in awhile can also help. I've done it a few times! Your body needs good fats or oils! Also eat lots of greens and chew them well! One meal consisting of only greens once a day and maybe take a omega3 supplement (salmon oil). The face is not a separate entity and the skin either. Your whole body is involved. For instance if you don't eat proper fats it causes a strain on your whole system because you cannot assimilate vitamin A or E etc then it cause a dis-balance in hormones and you get moody or get PMS and maybe toxins don't get eliminated normally.... etc you get my point don't you? Everything works with everything else so a face tonic is not really addressing the real issue which is harmony of all of you."

I Think BP Inside A Face Wash Is Better Than By Itself Because I Got Fine Lines From The BP Itself Under My Eyes."
