Does caffeine affect conception or just ovulation? I have been told, that caffeine may possibly have some effect on your fertility. Since I am a caffeine drinker, and have been since I was drinking out of a bottle ( i know!! dad thought it was cute then ) Anyway, Does the caffeine cause ovulation not to happen and thats what leads to the fertility problems or does is cause problems with the conception and implantation to happen. I have been trying to cut back, its easier said than done =[ I quit smoking, I'll tackle one bad habit at a time!

TANYEL replied: "well too much of something is never good 4 you. know what you mean by t being hard to cut out a bad habit. ts not as easy as people say. tried to stop smoking but noticed that started going up in sizes so started again not good no. any way just try and cut t down slowly. don't think t effects you getting pregnant tho good luck."

aanii replied: "excess of everythng is bad,so take care"

sexy debs replied: "I have actually found out that it does right the opposite to what the medical people are to believe. Here is a website that actually proves that a 4oz cup of tea or coffee actually helps fertlilty. Caffeine improves sperm motility in males and studies have shown women who drink this amount of caffeinated tea each day improve chances to conceive up to 200%. Do not give up your habit of caffeine just cut down your amount ok. GOOD luck Kelly and loads of baby dust. there is a website that can help you too. try this website it's called I am trying it I will do anything to myself."

does caffeine affect the male sperm when trying to concieve? I don't understand this statement totally: "It is thought that the stimulant in coffee affects a woman's ovulation - yet will help your partner's sperm mobility - because it changes hormone levels, which directly affect trying to conceive. " So it IS okay for the male to drink caffeine?

Ethel replied: "YES it's okay for males to drink caffeine, caffeine can spur greater sperm motility."

Christy replied: "Separating fact from fiction A number of sperm-related stories have made the rounds in recent years, including groundless rumors that menthol cigarettes and certain soft drinks can make men sterile. Here are a few others with no basis in fact and some that turn out to be true. * Fiction: Coffee jangles more than nerves. Not true as long as you don't drink too much. In fact, one recent Brazilian study showed that caffeine might actually increase motility. However, moderation is the key. Large amounts of caffeine had the opposite effect and caused sperm to swim slower."

Melly replied: "Yes it's fine. 80mg of caffeine shortly before sex is actually a good thing to do. It stimulates the sperm makes them swim faster. Contrary to beliefs caffeine whilst conceiving/pregnant isnt bad either only if you have more than 300mg a day or 4 coffees."

Will caffeine hurt my chances of getting pregnant? Senario: My "ovulation window" opened yesterday, we also had sex yesterday, would having roughly 300mg of caffeine today prevent me from conceiving?

Jaime P replied: "I drank caffeine all the time and when trying to get pregnant, and I got pregnant fast. I am not sure of statistic or studies involving that however."

matty replied: "I think they say not to drink to much after becoming pregnant. It would never hurt to cut down though. I have two children and have 2 cups of coffee a day and never had any problems conceving. Good question!! Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!!!"

Preggers with #1 replied: "Well, most people would probably tell you yes. I might have too a few months ago! Caffeine thickens the uterine lining and makes implantation more difficult. I had quit drinking caffeine from January until June. In July however, I had "given up" on all the textbook rules of trying to conceive. I still took my temp once in a while and used OPKs, but I didn't actually chart. And I drank more caffeine than any other cycle and I got pregnant! The only reason to be concerned about drinking caffeine is if the doctor has told you that you have a thick uterine lining. I personally didn't have that problem - I had a thin lining. Good luck!"

Leah M replied: "I believe that 300 mgs of caffeine is the most they say you should have, but no I cannot imagine that more would seriously hurt your chances of conceiving because when I conceived (wasnt trying to) I easily drank 1 cup of coffee a day and 1-2 large energy drinks. But if it helps, try making your coffee with half decaf and half regular.. thats what I do- it still gives me a lift and I don't have to worry as much!"

TTC...I have been trying to conceive for 6 months and still no luck any tips? What I have done so far is Prenatal's, quit caffeine, ovulation tests....any other good tips? I have irregular periods, and NEVER have the egg white cervical mucus....

sara replied: "Im also trying to conceive and have irregular periods. Lately ive been doing the basal temp and more conscious of ovulation symptoms."

Beth419 replied: "Maybe you should go and talk to your doctor to see whats up. Maybe theres something your missing.. Good luck and tons of baby dust!!"

Need baby dust replied: "See your dr. ASAP!! Go ahead and tell her it has been a year of TTC. You need to have a day 21 test blood test to see if you are ovulating and your husband needs to have his sperm tested. After the results of that you might need to go in for more testing. I would not let another month go by if you are ready to get pregnant. Good Luck to you!!"

hottgirlhere2002 replied: "i also had irregular periods, it took me 8 months to conceive my son, and also my husband has a low count so i thought that was the problem. keep trying and it will happen."

TTC #3 replied: "Read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. It will be so helpful and you will be glad you did!"

Laura P replied: "If you never have EWCM, maybe you could try Pre-Seed. I haven't used it, but I've heard about it from women on here and on different websites. It mimics your CM and gives the sperm the healthy environment they need to survive. Good luck!"

Have you given up caffeine yet? I love coffee and mt.dew but not as much as I will love my baby. At some point these things need to go. Should I give them up entirely while TTC? Is it ok to have them between AF and ovulation? Should I wait until I get a BFP to give them up? What do you guys think? What are you guys doing? LOL - fess up time! Thanks & baby dust to all!

Happy replied: "Okay, when I was TTC I consumed the "bad stuff", like coffee and sushi, during the first two weeks of my cycle. Then for the later two weeks after ovulation, I ate/drank like I was pregnant."

starlightstarbright replied: "I am now eight weeks pregnant, and ate chocolate all along. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I think it's okay to have your coffee while ttc. But once you get your BFP, you should give up the coffee and the dew. Talk to your doctor! Hope this helps!"

Chris replied: "I personally never fully stopped I just cut down. It wasn't until I was put on bedrest for both of my pregnancies that I stopped drinking caffeine. EDIT*My dr actually said that x-amount of caffiene was fine while I was pregnant, and I didn't even consume as much as she ok'd."

cola replied: "im not a coffee drinker at all but i love mountain dew, i have cut back to maybe a can a day or every other day, I am now 6 weeks preg, i've been drinking more OJ, fruit juice and water..."

I LOVE VEGAS!!! replied: "I craved chocolate big time when I was pregnant with my daughters, so I ate it everyday. I don't like coffee, so that wasn't a problem. My doctor told me that caffeine in moderation is okay, just don't over do it."

sweetheart24 replied: "I quit caffeine entirely about a year and a half ago. This was about 6 months before I started ttc with my hubby. I primarily gave it up because I figured out it gave me headaches, but I felt soooo much better after quitting it all. I drink mostly water now and when I finally do get pregnant (have pcos, been trying over a year now) I won't think twice about caffeine cuz I NEVER want it anymore :) Just start out small if you want to quit it and slowly eliminate caffeinated drinks from your diet, even switch to caffeine free stuff at first if you have to. Don't worry, if you want to quit you will find a way, but don't feel bad at all if it is still hard for you to quit when you try. We are only human after all. :) Best wishes!!"

finally! replied: "i gave them all up before ttc. Good Luck!"

Mia C replied: "My doc said Half decaf / half reg coffee is ok"

What causes early ovulation? I've been doing what I call "project healthy". I quit smoking a month ago and quit caffeine 2 months ago. I also added exercise so that I wouldn't gain weight from quiting smoking. My husband and I have been TTC and I've been charting for 2 yrs. I seemed to have ovulated 6 days early this cycle on cd9 instead of cd15. I've never had this happen before. Could it be from getting healthier? What can cause early ovulation? Oh, and I also have been taking prenatals the last 2 months.

jilldaniel_wv replied: "Ovulating on CD9 is a bit early and some of the most common causes of early ovulation are: decreased ovarian reserve, hyperthyroidism, and pituitary problems. But I really think any of these are unlikely considering that you have been previously having normal cycles. Is there any way you could post the link to your chart so we can have a look?"

Ovulation and ttc? I've been ttc for 6 months, I used an ovulation kit this month, and I ovulated at the time I thought I would, so we've been timing intercourse right, but I still haven't got pregnant. Me and my husband are both pretty healthy but he does smoke (cigarettes) and drink a lot of caffeine, could this be a reason I'm not getting pregnant?

So Happy replied: "He should DEFFINITLY stop smoking and drinking so much caffine, it could lower the sperm count and make the sperm less healthy. You both need to be eating a healthy diet if you are ttc."

gigi2195 replied: "Most definitely that can be affecting it. Here are some sites for you to review. Good luck and best wishes. Let me know how it goes for you. Again, good luck! xo Gigi"

Ovulation and Nausea? If you have been following my questions then you know my body/hormones have taken me on a rollercoaster the last three months (TTC.) Once again I have started to feel dizzy and queezy a few days after ovulation. It almost feels as if my body is hyped up on caffeine causing the dizzy/queezy feeling (no caffeine present.) Last month I became nauseous and had to be prescribed medicine. This is third month my body has reaacted this way. Does anyone else have this problem while TTC? My best friend thinks maybe it is my body trying to conceive but falling short. My doctor has checked my blood levels.. I am extremely healthy. I eat healthy and drink a gallon of water a day. I take prenatal vitamins.... fish oil... morning primrose oil.... exercise... everything!

Melinda P replied: "Hormone levels that fluctuate, especially during ovulation, can make you feel queasy...some women actually vomit around their periods. I would say that you should talk to your dr. about it, but other than putting you on bc pills (which obviously you don't want)...not sure what else they can do. You can buy some 'coke syrup' from your local drug store to help with nausea though, so you might give it a try! Good luck!"

Lindsay Jane replied: "It is caused by stress, don't put so much pressure on yourself and get your blood pressure and sugar levels checked, try drinking more fluids especially Milk as it helps protein levels. Also drink plenty of water."

SM replied: "OMG! I get the exact same thing!! I swear I thought I was alone! LOL! I get terrible nausea, sore breasts, dizzy & shaky.....same as you, I'm perfectly healthy....if you find out why, please let me know!"

Heather replied: "I wonder if your body is reacting that way due to the surge of LH? I can't think of anything else that makes a drastic difference around the time of ovulation, except maybe Progesterone.....come to think of it, that would make sense, because progesterone produced naturally during a pregnancy is what causes "morning sickness." Have you had your progesterone level checked shortly after ovulation? It might be worth asking your Dr. about, you may be producing too much. I hope you figure it out and good luck with TTC!"

MS. Cuddlebear replied: "wow hun, i know exactly how you feel. That hppens to me about a week before my mestrual cycle. I to have spoken to my doctor about it. I told him that about one week before my period i get shakey, nausious (i can't spell :) ) , and i get very emotional, and dizzy. Some time i get so nausiated that i end up throwng up and have to stay in bedd for a few days. Now I'm not a doctor, but my doctor said that i am in the prime time for pregnancy because of my age. He siad that some times, Just after ovulation a womans hormone's can go a little crazy. He told me that it may actually be linked to a PMS dissorder. Or it may even be linked to low Progesterone levels. I too live a very healthy lifestyle. I drink alot of water, and exercise for at least 30 minutes every day. I take Vitamins B1,B6, B12, and Amino acid. I am very sorry that i don't have a definite answer. But maybe this will help you not to feel so alone, and of course maybe give a clue to what it might be."

Jamie replied: "You should have your doctor do blood tests to check hormone levels at different times throughout your cycle...that may shed some light on what is happening. As for the supplements you are taking, do you mean EVENING primrose oil? If so, that should only be taken from CD1 up to ovulation. Anything after that could cause early miscarriage if you do end up conceiving. EPO causes contractions of the uterus, which is what happens during miscarriage. I am also having trouble with my hormones, and am seeing my doctor next week to start testing my levels. I hope you find out what is going on soon so it can be taken care of and you get back on track! Baby dust!"

Pelvic pain between ovulation and menstruation- ovarian cysts or endometriosis? For the past five years, I've been experiencing pelvic pain similar to menstrual cramps (but worse) beginning the day after I ovulate and extending for the next two weeks until I begin my period (at which time regular menstrual cramps are actually a relief). The pain will come (very quickly) and go and may happen several times a day for two weeks or just a couple days within that time. It never happens before I ovulate or after I start my period. It's been getting worse and worse and I have to take Ibuprofen now to cope with it. I'm trying to figure out what it is. I thought for a long time that it was endometriosis, but I'm beginning to think that it could be ovarian cysts. A couple of months ago, the pain was almost nonexistent! I had just recently stopped eating all animal products and thought that had done the trick, but next month it was back and I was extremely discouraged. I don't want to go to the doctor for treatment because they will either want to do surgery, tell me to get on birth control, or tell me to keep taking painkillers. The pain disrupts my life (like waking me up in the middle of the night when I have to be up early the next day), but so does taking medicine because then I'm groggy and out of it and can't function correctly. Lately I've begun to think that perhaps the condition is being exacerbated by chocolate (and all caffeine products, but I don't drink coffee). I haven't eaten chocolate for the past few days and the cramps have been mild enough that I haven't had to take any Ibuprofen. My mom has fibrocystic breast disease and can't eat chocolate because the caffeine and tannins in it will inflame the cysts and cause her to be in extreme pain for days. I was wondering if it could do the same for ovarian cysts? The information out there seems to just talk about sever pain during menstruation or mittelschmerz ovulation pain but nothing for pain that happens in the two intervening weeks. Has anyone else experience what I've described? Does anyone know anything about the link between ovarian cysts and chocolate or caffeine? Do my symptoms sound like endometriosis or ovarian cysts or something else? I would really like to find a natural treatment for this and I'm almost positive that it has something to do with diet. I love love love chocolate but I would give it up if it meant getting my life back two weeks out of five.

smilingj replied: "I have PCOS and I don't have a problem when I eat chocolate. I've never been told by doctors to stop eating chocolate, so I doubt there is a connection. I think you should go visit the doctors. Tell them about the pain and tell them you've tried taking painkillers. I used to get really bad pain all the time, and I still do. If you don't want to go on the pill, they can't make you, but it does make the flow lighter and the pain a little less. For my pain, they gave me another NSAID, since Ibruprofen wouldn't work. I get random onset of pain all the time, and up to a week before I'm due. With the painkillers, I take them as and when needed and they are a mircale cure. Ask the doctors what other options you have. Try hot baths and hot water bottles. Having said all this, if you suspect you have PCOS and so does your doctor, you will need to have a scan and blood tests to confirm this. I think your best bet is going to the doctors and explaining the situation! Good luck!"

Trouble kicking caffeine any one else? Also CM querie? We have been TTC for about 8 months, I fell pregnant easily (accidently lol) last time so didn't quit caffeine or any of the badies until I found out. I never realised caffeine could affect you chances of conception so much until now. I have just stopped tea and coffee but i am having bad headaches and feel really unmotivated without it=) How did you all cut out the tea and coffee? Also wondering if everyone gets obvious ewcm when ovulating or can it just be increased without being stratchy? I am haveing trouble pinpointing ovulation as my cycles have been quite eratic lately and have just started checking cm. Thanks guys in advance and baby dust to all who are ttc!!!

starcatcher3355 replied: "Do a down step when going off caffine which is coffee to green tea (which has caffine but also antioxidents) to regard tea (low caffine) to water. You're decreasing caffine but avoiding the headaches which are caused by the effects of caffine on your blood vessels in the brain. Not everyone gets the egg white cm. It just has to be more wet then most cycle days. It can be like water or it can stretch. Non-fertile cm is sticky, starchy or gummy and usually thick and white or whitish-yellow."
