Anyone taking Depakote for Migraines? I Take Topamax 200 mgs a day and my neuro is adding this, have migraine I have at least 20 migraines, usually 2 weeks non-stop a month or more, and take Maxalt also, and Xanex. It's gotten where my vision was blurred, so they made me go to the eye dr. to make sure wasn't gettting Glacoma, and the eye specialist said it was due to migraines, which forgot had started a cholesterol med, which didn't start the Depakote, and stopped the cholesterol med but still having the eye pain, which is like I'm just staring out, feeling funny, bugged eyed, sounds weird, but that is what's going on, but got the okay from the eye dr. and told the neuro and they prescribed Depakote with the Topamax. Started new cholesterol med, which eyes are better just a bit, but, still feel like I'm staring, and it's behind them, and hurt to the point I rub them, and have cut my eye with my nails without realizing they hurt so much. I'm scared of the Depakote, and go tomorrow to the neuro, heard too many bad things about it, even from a mental friend of mine said dont take it, any sugs

I just went to the neurologist for migraines and they prescribed me depakote. How bad is the weight gain? I am afraid for the weight gain since I am trying to diet. I already tried topamax and had really bad numbness in my hands. I am taking excedrin migraine 2 times a day for 5 years and they are trying to get me off of that. Please help with your opinions on migraines and depakote or what else could work for migraines. I use imitrex for an attack and it works but I am trying to go on a prevenative. Thanks

Believer replied: "Depakote is for bipolar, and I don't think it causes major weight gain . .. I had a niece and nephew who took it and I didn't notice any weight gain. I also suffer from really bad headaches and I have noticed that if I am exercising faithfully every week I tend to have a lot less headaches. Have you tried exercising? If not, you may want to give it a shot - and it will also help with the weight issue as well. Good luck"

Clutch replied: "I have had migraines for 10 years and I have tried several medications that are typically used for seizures. I found a migraine clinic at a hospital and they have really helped me. My doctor put me on Pamelor, Coenzyme Q-10, Magnesium Glycinate, and Vit. B-12. The Pamelor makes me feel tired but I take it at night so it isnt so bad. Weight gain with Pamelor is a possibility but I have not had any problems. My doctor also said my Vit. B levels were really low and that could also make my migraines worse. I have read a lot about treatments from that site says that what may work for one person may not for another. Just keep trying different things."

Is there help for chronic migraine headache? I sometimes have a tension headache, but everyday I have a migraine. Depakote ER 1000 mg daily is helping, only been taking it 3 weeks.

tallblondee2003 replied: "There is a medicine out there that is called Imatrex, you may try that maybe that will help, I get migrain headaches all the time and I take IB Profine 800 mg."

Baoisatv2 replied: "Go to a doctor is my best advise."

welllaners replied: "relaxation techniques has helped me, sounds like you need a change in the way you look at life and work."

Frank replied: "If there is a pain management specialist in your area you may want to investigate nerve blocks. Here is a link but go to the net and find others. I've had a cervical nerve block and today an occipital nerve block. If there is no specialist in your area, it may be worth it to travel to a nearby large area. Certain foods and chemical smells also can trigger a migraine. I just discovered that one Excedrin helps but two are too much."

Susan Yarrawonga replied: "If they are sugar migraines a reduced sugar intake would help. See item 71 in ."

eczemaexpert replied: "If it is a reoccurring intense pain it could be considered a cluster migraine. I would recommend visiting the following website in the sources section."

Is anyone taking (or ever taken) Depakote for Migraine Headaches? I am looking for feedback on Depakote.? My neurologist recently decreased my Topamax by 50% (because it cause me to loose too much weight) and I am starting to take Depakote along with the Topamax, in hopes of leveling out my weight. Does anyone have feedback on Depakote? Like, don't like, side effects? Does anyone know of any side effects of Depokote that you may have when you start the medicine? I started it 3 days ago and have had a quesy stomach ever since??? I have been taking it along with a multi vitamin and a Super B Complex. I know about the weight gain and hair breakage...anything else anyone experienced while taking it for migraines?

browneyedmaiden replied: "My friend took Depakote for depression and anxiety. I've never heard of it being prescribed for migraines. As far as side effects, she did have a problem with being more depressed than she was before taking the drug. You really need to talk to your doctor if you have ill side effects."

webjnke1 replied: "I got an email the other day, with some uses for common products. One said that you can get rid of migraine headaches, within minutes, by drinking 2 glasses of Gatorade. I've been real curious if it works or not. anyway just thought I'd mention it."

pcjellis3 replied: "Depakote will definitely level your weight loss off. It will cause weight gain. Also depending on the dosage amount you might have to have blood levels drawn."

Migraine prevention and Depakote-ER.....? I have already tried 100mg. Topamax and that did nothing to relieve my migraines, so today my doc put me on 500mg Depakote ER. What can I expect, has this worked for anyone when Topamax has falied, any other information or advice is welcome! Thanks!

I have been taking Depakote for Migraine's.? It work's really well, but seem's to make me a bit forgetful. If you are a person who take's this please answer. Does it have that effect on you. It's nothing major but little thing's like if someone tell's you something. Or I was really good at remembering number's and not I can't. Addresses I alway's had memorized I now have to look up.

My husband recently went off Depakote, he had been on it for Migraine prevention. His headaches are better? BUT, he gets very "antsy". Sometimes just cannot sit still. Might this be related to being off the Depakote? He did taper off properly. Thanks, His headaches ARE better, sorry about the question mark! one more thing I forget...he did quit smoking 4 weeks ago also...

I'm 21 and my hair is falling out due to a necessary prescription medicine (Depakote ER)!? I'm currently taking Depakote ER for migraine prevention but it is causing my hair to fall out (not clumps causing bald spots, but a lot more is coming out per day then used to). Getting off of the medicine is not an option as the migraines are severe and frequent and other medicinal options have caused worse symptoms (try multiple kidney stones). The only thing I have tried for the hair loss is to replace my daily multi-vitamin with Centrum Silver (it is for people 50+ and is supposed to have something to help with hair loss). Any vitamins ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated!
