Diflucan While Pregnant Information in Q&A
Has anyone taken Diflucan while pregnant? I am 16 weeks pregnant, and today my doctor prescribed me Diflucan (fluconazole) for a yeast infection. I have been reading that doctors usually don't prescribe that to women during pregnancy, that it could cause harm to the fetus, and they usually suggest monistat instead. I am not sure whether to take the diflucan or go to the store and buy monistat? I don't think my doctor would prescribe me something that would seriously harm the baby, but i dont know what to do! HELP!

jachooz replied: "yes. You can take it. I took it with my last pregnancy. As longas your dr knows you are pregnant you should be fine"

Smarty replied: "Yep I took it too while pregnant. But if you truly dont feel comfortable taking it then go buy some monistat. About the same price you'd pay for a co pay on a prescription anyways so price won't matter and it will put your mind at ease."

Did anyone take Diflucan while pregnant? I had a yeast infection and the nurse practitioner prescribed me Diflucan, just one pill once 150 mg. I took it just now, but now I am worried about it! Did anyone else take this during pregnancy?

Mom2Madylynn&Ayden replied: "Yes, I did, yeast infections are so common during pregnancy, I would think the diflucan is safer then the vaginal inserts, but yes when i was about 3 months pregnant I was prescribed and diflican and my daughter is 2 and beautiful and healthy. Relax, they say you can't do anything while your pregnant, it's good to be cautious but don't stress yourself out!"

Daisy replied: "Not diflucan, but a different sort of medicine. The mucus plug and bag of waters totally protect the baby so it is okay. Is that oral or a vaginal suppository? I would be more reluctant to take something oral as it can get to the baby through the blood stream. Go get a vinegar and water douche, the vinegar re-balances the ph of your vagina so the yeasties will die without any harsh meds. Lay on your back and do it very softly, not as strong as you usually would and let it stay in there for a minute."

~28 wks along with baby # 4~ replied: "On my "safe" list from my OB..it says absolutely NO DIFLUCAN in big letters. Diflucan is a category C in pregnancy, meaning that it may cause harm to the unborn fetus. In a study of 234 women that used large ammounts of diflucan during pregnancy, 3 babies were born with limb abnormalities. So there is concern about that. But there aren't enough studies to confirm that is unsafe so it was given a Category C. Most prescription drugs are given a Category C, for the reason that they do not know if they are safe or not, due to lack of studies. I would talk to your OB about it and see what they say. I don't think one dose is going to hurt anything."

Can I Take Diflucan while pregnant?? Im 8 months pregnant, and havent been able to get rid of this yeast infection for almost 4 months. Ive tried the creams (both OTC and from the doctors) but they always come back. He now gave me the diflucan pill, but I am afraid to take it. Ive heard different things on it. Some women have taken it and been fine, and then studies say its a Class C drug for pregnancy. So Im a lil confused and scared!

ptmamas replied: "im sure if the doctor gave it to you knowing your pregnant you will be fine..but when i had the same thing i refused to take the pill given to me i just drank water for about 2 weeks str8 ..nothing else and it went away on its own"

*Lin-z* replied: "If your doctor gave it to you I would assume it is safe to take. It doesn't stay in your body for very long but boy does that little pill work like a charm. Plus you don't want to have a yeast infection at the time you give birth. It can cause some minor issues with the baby after the baby is born. Such as it can cause thrush, which is a yeast infection in the babies mouth."

Yarro Pilz replied: "You can take it. Lots of drugs are marked with warnings for pregnant women and children because there isn't a lot of test data for those groups and they have to limit their liability. But doctors have years of practical experience, and your doctor knows that it's safe and effective."

niki7732 replied: "Your physician would know what types of drugs you would be able to take while your pregnant. It depends on what trimester you are in. I was actually shocked when I was able to take Tylenol 3's and Motrin 800's when I was 8 months pregnant for a root canal. Your OBGYN wouldn't give you anything that would endanger your baby."

mompoo replied: "Eat yogurt plain, 2x a day. for seven days. That should clear it up with no meds."

baby replied: "are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or think you might be pregnant. Your doctor will discuss whether DIFLUCAN is right for you."

Fairy replied: "yes i was 33 weeks pregnant and i delevoped thrush (more common in babies) but it was were i was on infection medicine and i got that in my mouth (thrush) and they gave me diflucan in the hospital. it is fine to take after all it is only one pill well that is all they gave me was one. if it was so bad the doctor wouldnt have written it out to you"

shadie_angel replied: "It is unknown whether or not it will harm your unborn baby. They do, however, warn you not to take it while breast feeding...so I don't imagine that it would be very good."

professional_mother replied: "A Class C drug means that there is no evidence as to its safety. It may be perfectly safe, or it may not. There is just no way to know. I would suggest you talk to your doctor and tell him that you are concerned; maybe there's something else he can prescribe that you'll feel more comfortable taking. It is considered *safer* when breastfeeding (category L2 on a scale from L1-L5). If you can keep the yeast under control with safer drugs until you give birth, you might want to consider taking the Diflucan later on instead. But, please talk to your doctor about your options."

has anyone been prescribed diflucan while pregnant? im curious because thats what my dr prescribed me, and when my mother picked the script up for me (bc im on bedrest) the pharmacist insisted that i SHOULDNT take this while im pregnant.... She also saw that i was on amoxacillon and my mother told her i have a privia... i googled it and research shows it has negative affects but thats with prolonged exposure throughout pregnancy... I want to trust my dr, but why would the pharmacist be so adamant??

Jon's Wife replied: "I was prescribed a generic form of diflucan. My doctor said it was fine. My son was born healthy at 39 weeks! :)"

Vikki replied: "I have not, but one suggestion I found on the internet was to put a small amount of Apple cider vinegar into the tub and soak for a little bit. It worked for me and once I told all my friends they tried it when the problem came up and almost everyone swears by it now. Good luck."

wyatt's mom replied: "i was perscribed diflucan during my last pregnancy and this one. My son was born healthy, no complications at 39 weeks, 8lbs. 5 oz. This pregnancy so far has been fine except for a low lying placenta, but i am only 19 weeks along. I would say it is fine."

Has anyone ever taken diflucan while prego? i have heard that you arent suppost to take it because of possible birth deffects, but got prescribed it this morning at doc office. just wondering if anyone else has ever taken it while pregnant? btw im 6 mths , just forgot to add that

Jen replied: "Call your doctor's office back just to be sure. I doubt they would have prescribed it to you if there would be potential harm to the baby but sometimes they don't think. Better to double check. I just googled it and it doesn't look like you should take it, but again, talk to your doctor or call your OB if the family doctor prescribed it."

Mommy to 4 boys :) replied: "Diflucan is Pregnancy Category C The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) uses a category system to classify the possible risks to a fetus when a specific medicine is taken during pregnancy. Pregnancy Category C is given to medicines that have not been studied in pregnant humans but that do appear to cause harm to the fetus in animal studies. Also, medicines that have not been studied in any pregnant women or animals are automatically given a pregnancy Category C rating. When given to pregnant rats or rabbits, Diflucan caused the following problems: Reduced weight gain in the mother Miscarriages Increased weight of the placenta Birth defects, such as cleft palate and head or face abnormalities. There have been a few reports of multiple, serious birth defects in infants whose mothers took Diflucan in early pregnancy (usually high doses for an extended period of time). Because the birth defects were distinctive and similar in these cases, it is assumed that the medication probably caused the defects. However, statistics generally do indicate that short-term use (such as the single dose used to treat vaginal yeast infections) does not seem to cause such problems. Your Dr will not give you something that is unsafe for your baby. Since you are 6 months along and you are only taking it this one time, I doubt it will cause any harm. If you uncomfortable taking it, don't. Ask your Dr for something else."

I'd rather be at the beach replied: "I would say, don't take it I just went to safefetus.com and they rate the drug as a "C" -- as in, take only if the benefits outweigh the risks. It doesn't sound like a pregnancy-safe drug"

Diflucan for a Yeast Infection During Pregnancy? I was on antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection, and that gave me a yeast infection. I was prescribed Diflucan to treat the yeast infection. I took it two days ago and just found out yesterday that I am pregnant. I am terrified that something will happen. Has anyone else ever taken Diflucan while in the early stages of pregnancy?

~Devon's Mommy~ replied: "Yea I have! The doctors describe it to you. They gave it to me when I was 16 weeks. I was pron to getting yeast infections my whole pregnancy. They gave it to me every time and my baby boy is fine=)"

razz replied: "I have had 7 pregnancies and yeast infections were a problem each time I'd finished anti-biotics too so I sympathise! I know that I was prescribed stuff for it but can't remember if it was Diflucan or not. It's important to get the right kind of treatment, especially this early on, so in the morning phone your doctors and ask the receptionist to ask the doctor's advise and call you back. If it's ok to continue, it won't have mattered that you waited a short while, but , on the other hand, if you need the prescription changing then it's also not too long to wait without taking anything in the meantime either. Good luck!"

#4 is on the way!!!!!!!! replied: "Its not recommended. It is a pregnancy category C which just means it hasn't been studied in pregnancy. You can get more info at fda.gov just search for pregnancy category ratings. If you took it more than 48 hours ago with no rash or breathing trouble, at this point you should be fine."

Any woman out there had a slight yeast infection while they were pregnant? I am in that situation now at 5 months. My doctor prescribed me diflucan but I am so affraid to take it. I asked the pharmacist what she thought. She looked it up and advised me not to take it. I'm wondering if I and the baby will be fine if I don't. I'm about to research to see if there are any alternatives to medication. Any suggestions or anyone go through this? Thanks

sammy replied: "I had one when I was about 7 months. Doctor prescribed monistat 7."

wendysorangeblossoms replied: "If you have a vaginal yeast infection you can purchase a 7 day over the counter treatment like Monistat. I would opt for that over the Diflucan. I was told by my midwife that the 7 day treatment is the safest and most effective."

Betsy B replied: "i had one.. they told me to use monistat but just on the outside not internally"

notAminiVANmama replied: "Yes, almost every pregnant woman gets a yeast infection you are so much more likely to get them during pregnancy even really bad ones. Call your OB ( I see a high risk OB) & they prescribed me over the phone diflucan, & monistate rx cream. If you call in the morning they acan call something in for you & start it within a hour or so. Good Luck, cool baths & showers help warm spreads the yeast ..no sex & change panties often & wash 3 x alone before wearng again...yeast is very resiliant"

Wendy S replied: "I was also perscribed monistat when I had a yeast infection during my last pregnancy."

ShugarMags replied: "I am 5 months also, and have had about 4 infections this pregnancy. In West Virginia I was prescribed diflucan but here in California they will not give it to me. I have seen info on web that it is unsafe and can cause problems. I would suggest using monistat or ask OB to prescribe a cream. I HATE using creams and would rather use a pill for it.. but so many other Doctors have said not to take diflucan! Hope this helps.. and I feel for you.. yeast infections are HORRIBLE! Good Luck!"

SINGLEMOM4 replied: "I had one, but I used monistat 7 or you can use the one day monistat. I am thinking that diflucan is for STD's, but I may be mistaken. Ask another Doctor."

Rebecca O replied: "I am 33 weeks along, and I just had a yeast infection a few weeks ago. I just used Monistat One. Cleared it up in a couple days. Talk to your OB about trying Monistat instead, if you are worried about the diflucan. You can also call up a different OB to ask, and get some other opinions. Yeast infections a very common during pregnancy. You really should treat it, because if you just try to wait it out it may take a long time, or it may not go away at all."

girldragon76 replied: "I did get a yeast infection when I was about 4 months pregnant with my first son. I had to take antibiotics for a sinus infection and wouldn't you know I got a yeast infection. I tried everything so I didn't have to take any med's for the yeast. My Dr. told me to use monistat 7 and not insert the cream or suppository all the way into your cervix just half way. It totally worked, no problems at all and the yeast infection went away. Just make sure you do it for 7 days.. My son was born totally fine, and he's 5 years old super healthy and intelligent.. Good luck hope this works.. Also taking a warm bath in white vinegar is a help too. about a cup that kills the yeast. Also eat yogurt with active culture!!"

micg replied: "I was just treated for one but I was prescribed a cream rather than an oral medication. If you are uncomfortable taking it then call your ob and ask them to call in a vaginal cream to the pharmacy. I am 26 weeks."

boricuareina09 replied: "its very common to have yeast infections when your pregnant, however if you have reocurring yeast infections, you should see your doctor because it could mean that your body is producing too much of a bacteria that it naturally produces, causing infection. As far as taking the medication (comming from someone who is pregnant, and has had a yeast infection before) i wouldnt take it, but i dont even like to take headache medicine or anything because im affraid of the effect on the baby. I would recomend you buy the monistate cream (not the ovule, just the cream), and use it, also monistat makes a product called "cool whipes" if you use both of those, and also eat alot of yogart it should clear up in a couple days. If it dosent see your doctor again. hope this helped! God Bless!"

Amanda replied: "I had a yeast infection while being pregnant, my doctor recommend Monistat, the CREAM though, not the supositories. I'd give that a try, just let your doctor know if it gets any worse."

shellberry_shortcake replied: "I havent had one--but if the doctor prescribed it for you-you should take it. what does the pharmacist know about your pregnancy history? your doctor knows--if he thought it would harm you or baby--he would NOT have prescribed it. Not taking it and trying a remedy of your own--may cause more harm than good. I assume the doctor is your obgyn--not just a family doctor?"

mindy replied: "I had numerous yeast infections with my pregnancy and my ob/gyn told me to take Monistat because it would be the safest. I tried it and it did not work. She had to prescribe me a stronger one. She said the dangers were higher but the infection had to be cleared up, other wise it would only get worse and cause more problems. I would speak to the doctor and tell her when you went to get the prescription filled the pharmacist recommend you not to take it, but try to do it soon before the infection gets worse."

october g replied: "I've never used Diflucan or Monostat and it's never been prescribed to me. They always give me a prescription for Terazole - the cream with the internal applicator which usually worked for me."

bb replied: "yes, you are at increased risk for them when pregnant. why not just take monistat? it's safe for pregnancy, and what i was prescribed. also eat lots of yogurt and stay healthy - avoid white sugars too."

Is Diflucan Safe During Pregnancy? Hello Everyone: I'm Posting This Question Because When It Comes To My First Baby, I'm Very Cautious And Emotional When I Hear Frightening Things. Well, On Monday (6-15-09) I Went To The Doctor To Get My GBS Test Done At 36 Weeks & 5 Days Pregnant. While Doing My Swabbing, The Doctor Asked Me, "Have You Been Irritated Any?" And I Responded, "Yes." He Told Me, "Looks Like You Have A Slight Yeast Infection, I'm Going To Prescribe You Some Medication For It." Hearing That, I Was Relieved Because The Irritation Has Been There For A While But I Thought It Was From Using Scented Body Washes So I Overlooked It. When My Visit Was Over And I Got The Perscription (Which I Couldn't Read) I Went To Get It From A Local Walgreens. When I Saw What It Was, I Was Quite Happy Because It Wasn't Anything Serious And It's Something That's Common In Pregnant Women. After Reading The Instructions Of The Medicine Carefully, I Took It. Later That Night, I Scared Myself To Death Because Of All The Horrifying Facts About Diflucan, Which Was Given To Me As The Generic Brand: Fluconazole, That I Researched On My Laptop. I Couldn't Believe What I Was Reading! They Were Basically Giving All The Negative Facts About The Medicine. Even BabyCenter.Com Stated: "Oral Antifungal Drugs Should Not Be Taken During Pregnancy To Treat Vaginal Yeast Infections." So That Was Even More Scary For Me. I'm Now 37 Weeks Pregnant With A Fully Developed Baby, I'm Just Afraid That When She Comes, Something Will Seriously Be Wrong With My Beautiful Baby Girl. It'll Break My Heart To Know That She Could Have Facial Deformalities Such As Cleft Palate Or Not Have All 10 Fingers And Toes. I Would Be So Heart Broken Knowing That I Did All I Could Do To Have A Safe And Healthy Pregnancy, Only To Fail As A Carrier For A Newborn Baby Because I Didn't Ask The One Question I'm Sure Any Pregnant Woman Would Ask, "Is It Safe?" But Looking At The Fact That A Doctor Prescribed It For Me, I Automatically Assumed He Knew What Was Best For Me...And My First Daughter KaLaYah. So I Ask, Is Diflucan (Fluconazole) Safe For Pregnant Women 36 Weeks And Over? I Would Appreciate All Your Answers. Thank You For Taking The Time To Read This And You All Be Blessed :-D And By The Way...If You're Going To Say Anything About How I Capitalized All My Words...Don't Bother Answering The Question At All. It'll Save Me And Especially You...A Lot Of Problems.

Michelle replied: "well if your doctor prescribed it i would consult him/her because they would know and be able to answer your question a lot better than anyone else can "

mother of 6 last was twins replied: "trust me it can't hurt the baby or the doctor wouldn't of gave it to you don't worry so much it drives the doctors crazy"

Bee replied: "ask your doctor flat out "Is Diflucan (Fluconazole) Safe For Pregnant Women 36 Weeks And Over?" that will be so much safer then taking any other advise from anyone else."

johnbullas replied: "Only your physician can advise you as they know all your medical history, they know what other drugs you are taking and any past interactions - a pharmacist may be able to tell you or may say the same - take a look on the package to see if THAT says it is ok, if it say CHECK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN do just that"

ladyren replied: "First, in the English language, the only words that are capitalized are proper nouns (names or titles of something). Secondly, no one on here is an obgyn....I promise. And most on here are 13 year old girls, or moms never graduating highschool, much less college with a degree in any medical science. Ask your doc, hon. Pick up your phone, and call your doctor. It is that simple."

~ThatsJustMe~ replied: "i really dont know but if they are not safe they usually say on the back of the medication pack and if the doctor prescribed it then it should be okay after all they should know what they are doing. Dont worry im sure everything will be fine. If you are still worried then you should ask a doctor or call up the doctors or a hospital and they will tell you. P.S Ladyren if this site is as inferior as you make it sound why are you on here stop tryin to put people down."

maca replied: "if you don`t trust! your doctor then ask your local chemist for advice"

April Golden replied: "Just curious, but is there a reason you have capitalized every single word in this? I see someone asked the same thing. And as you will notice, no one answered with all capitalized words. I am hoping you realize that this is not the way this language works... Are you a US or British citizen? Then you had this in school, if you stayed. Or is this language not your native language? As for your question, please do again read the directions to your medication if it came with a package insert. But just as an "oh, by the way", those malformations you listed occur far below the weeks that you are pregnant. No almost-full-term-baby, can now develop a cleft palate, or end up wth 17 toes, 6 eyes, or 15 ears or any other deformity you can think of. Pretty much what your fetus is now, it will be when it is born, If your doctor is not available, then try your local chemist (pharmacy). You appear extremely uninformed and worried. Please seek professional opinions, not those of the high school grads and office workers who answer questions on here."

Could I be ovulating?? Can I get pregnant? 10 points? Could I get pregnant? 10 points ? November 5th... had a period December 8th... had another period December 30th... had my last period +Have been taken birth control to regulate period but I have missed pills. +I am diagnosed with pcos with no ovarian cysts. +Was also taking diflucan while on the pill and they say it messes with the pill. +Missed pill 3, 4, 5, and 6 and I recently heard that it is most risky when you miss pills during the first week. January 3rd... period stopped January 5th... had unprotected sex January 6th... had unprotected sex January 10th... had unprotected sex January 12... had unprotected sex in the morning January 12... started having cramps in the after noon January 13... Cramps have continued. Whats does the cramping mean??????? and is it possible that I can get pregnant? I am not asking if I am pregnant!. I am asking why I could be having cramps and if it maybe that I am ovulating!?

Scuba Steve replied: "If Im right most women releases an egg on the 10th day after her period ends. So there is a good chance you could be pregnant. Take a test when its time and good luck"

thedavids04 replied: "Honey, if you are of child bearing age (which i am sure you are), it is always possible to get pregnant. The only way to ensure not getting pregnant, is not having sex at all. As far as the answer to your specific question, you wouldn't know if you were pregnant this soon... you would know after your first missed period, which should be here soon. My best advice to you is invest in another form of birth control. Since you are forgetting to take the pill, at your next dr. visit ask about the depo shot. it is a shot in your bum, or upper arm, and it lasts for 3 months, just dont forget to go back to get your next shot. The only downside is no period at all after the first few shots. Also before you get a shot or if you miss a due date, you can't have sex for like a week... I feel the depo is the best birth control on the market today. I have had 2 kids, one on the pill, the other on the patch. Since getting the depo shot I have never had to worry about pregnancy. Also the cramping could be from your period. Good luck in any case."

xx_erics_lady replied: "Missing pills is the most risky in the first week since you had already been off of them during your placebo week. I have missed pills before and started cramping because missing pills can also cause you to get a period. It is possible that you could be ovulating to however, that has also happened to me on the pills, but I had discharge along with that."

sunshine replied: "Bottom line...yes the cramps could be from ovulating and if your ovulating you do run the risk of getting pregnant. If your on birth control it regulates you cycle at 28 days. Birth control pills stop your ovulation. If you've missed enough pills to counter the effect you would ovulate in mid cycle which for you would have been around the 13th. (28day cycle / 2 = 14 days from the first day of your last period) Starting to crap on the 12th may be the starting of the detachment of the egg from the ovary. Now IF you did ovulate, can't really say if you did or didn't. But IF you did ovulate...any unprotected sex from the 9th to the 18th could get you pregnant. Sperm can live for a couple days inside you and if it's already there when you ovulate bam your pregnant and your eggs lives for days after ovulation so present new sperm and you can get pregnant. So is it all possible....YES IT IS...good luck dear!!"

First of all, I am a grown women and can have unprotected sex with my husband as much as I want! Secondly, I am not trying to not get pregnant. Thirdly, I am not asking if I am pregnant!. I am asking why I could be having cramps and if it maybe that I am ovulating!?

life is for the taking replied: "go to your doctor! get a pregnancy test from the store. better yet, stop having unprotected sex!!!!"

Over and Over replied: "oh sure, since it is totally possible to start having symptoms within a week................................ do some research, and then ask legitimate questions. oh and btw, you should ask ur doctor about things like this, ur obviously seeing a doctor so write down all your questions and concerns and bug them. I'm sure you will be more pleased with their answers instead of ours."

soni replied: "1st you take a pregnancy test"

brie_h replied: "You might be stressing or its your birth control starting to act up. You need to wait a little longer on this. If your period doesn't come and you experience breast tenderness, needing to pee and your hungry or just one of these, you might just need to get a test. And yes it's very possible to get pregnant."

sosexy replied: "When a female is told she can not get pregnant, the doctor is always proved wrong! The only way I feel a woman may not get pregnant is if she's missing ovaries and if the man is shooting blanks! I say take a test and surprise yourself and the doctor!"

Rachel replied: "sorry hun dont think so, but if you were you wouldn't be able to tell yet or have symptoms. and most women don't get pregnant the first month(usually can be 3-6 months) after getting off BC"

Macy J replied: "I don't think you're pregnant. You had sex between 6-13 days after your cycle. You ovulate (usually) 14 days after your cycle. It could be possible because you had sex on the 13th day but conception takes place two weeks later so...no you are not pregnant. Go to webmd.com, there is plenty of info about ovulation."

cantcu replied: "You could be having several issues, the most likely pregnancy, however that is not what is causing your cramping I suspect. It could be anything from a spontaneous abortion to an ectopic pregnancy. Or nothing! See your MD, and don't wait. Hopefully it is nothing, however it is not a good idea to ignore what your body is telling you!"

luckypusskat replied: "the possibility is there that you could have conceived. i have pcos and i am currently pregnant. i went off the pill (as we decided we wanted to have children) i had one period and fell pregnant. miscarried and now after a year and a half and only two periods im pregnant again. cramps could be due to your pcos? i remember that i sometimes had pretty bad cramps in the middle of my cycle... or an ovarian cyst may have developed and is causing you some pain? hope all is well :)"

Sara H replied: "WOW hunny i'm so sorry that there are so many inconsiderate people on here that are rude. But sweetie you should get a hpt this will give you an answer. If it is negative then wait another week and test again if you still think your pregnant and your period isn't here then make an appointment with your doctor. Have him run a blood test on you. That will be a sure yes or no. But be sure not to make your self go crazy over it and think about it every single Second i know its hard not to because when you tell your self not think about something that's all you can think about loll. but just try to keep your mind off of it. because it might be you just stressing over it. Good luck hun BABY DUST TO ALL! Sara-"

Tara S replied: "Have you experienced these problems with ovulation before? * When some women have a dull ache on one or both sides, or an alternating achiness, that often means that ovulation is going to occur soon and the ovaries are swelling with follicles. * When a sharp, quick, stabbing pain occurs, that often means ovulation is taking place right at that time, and the sharp pain is from the egg shooting out of the follicle very, very quickly. * The third kind of pain happens after ovulation has already taken place, and it like a nagging ache on *one side, which some describe as a "pulled muscle-kind-of-feeling", which relates to the corpus luteum (the left over shell from the egg, which, when it was whole, was considered a follicle) being left behind on the ovary as a temporary cyst, in order to produce Progesterone until the end of the luteal phase, or the end of the pregnancy, whichever the case may be. * (*Although with fraternal twins or multiples, a woman could ache on both sides if she ovulated from both sides that cycle.) This is what I could find at the moment.I searched "mettleshmertz". But all in all I would suggest talking to your doctor, from what I read, most doctors will set an ultrasound up to look at the ovaries and can then pin point what may be the problem. Good luck!! and Ihope all is well!!"
