If I take Ponstel 250, does it intefer with Alprazolam 0.25? Ponstel is an anti-inflamatory that treats menstrual pain. Alprazolam is a small dosage to treat anxiety.

kimmy8888888 replied: "I take Morphine and Vallium, yes you can. Go to for any medicine questions."

tulla replied: "These are the meds listed that could cause an adverse reaction but if your family doctor did not prescribe one of them then I could call him/her and double check to make sure just to be safe. Do not take Ponstel with: a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin; a diuretic (water pill) such as furosemide (Lasix); cyclosporine (Gengraf, Neoral, Sandimmune); lithium (Eskalith, Lithobid); methotrexate (Rheumatrex, Trexall); steroids (prednisone and others); or aspirin or NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as diclofenac (Voltaren), etodolac (Lodine), fenoprofen (Nalfon), flurbiprofen (Ansaid), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), indomethacin (Indocin), ketoprofen (Orudis), ketorolac (Toradol), meclofenamate (Meclomen), meloxicam (Mobic), nabumetone (Relafen), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn), piroxicam (Feldene), and others. If you are using any of these drugs, you may not be able to use mefenamic acid or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment. There may be other drugs not listed that can affect Ponstel. Tell your doctor about all the prescription and over-the-counter medications you use. This includes vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new medication without telling your family doctor."

Anyone know of or have experince with Ponstel for period cramps? I have tried EVERYTHING over counter and nothing helps. I am going to the doc tomorrow and was thinking of asking my doc for the med or something similar. I am on bcps too but I just started I just want something until they start working.

Jen replied: "It's good if you have a regular cycle and know in advance when your period is due, because for best effect it should be taken for 2 or 3 days BEFORE the period starts, and for the first couple of days of the period. So if you have an irregular cycle and can never predict when your period is due, it's not all that effective, but as long as you know in advance when you are due, it works pretty well."

Do I need a prescription to buy ponstel? Hello everyone! Do I need a prescription to purchase a ponstel both amoxicillin and mefenamic acid? Thanks

Ponstel for really bad cramps....? I had my baby 4 months ago and have had really bad menstrual cramps since. My Dr wants me to try Ponstel which from what I have read can be really dangerous. I want to know if it really works before taking it. Has anyone here tried it and does it really work?

longingforsummer replied: "From the little I've read about Ponstel I would not take it. Doctors seem to like to push the prescription meds on people. I get wicked menstrual cramps too, so bad that sometimes I can hardly get out of bed. In some of my research I have found that sugar can makes cramps worse, because it causes inflammation. I have also personally felt the cramps getting worse when I decided against better judgement to eat a chocolate bar. I would suggest staying away from sugar a few days before your period starts, and if your cramps are still bad, try Robax Platinum, it is a strong muscle relaxant and helps my cramps more than anything else. Hope you find something that works, that's safer than Ponstel."

Samantha M replied: "I took it for really bad cramps bec. not much else worked except for vicodin and the dr. didn't want to give that to me for cramps bec. they have to be very careful now about giving that out. anyway, the ponstel i only took one time bec. it made me like super#$%. i was awful and all i wanted to do was sleep. nothing like my usual self not even with pms. i just gave the whole bottle back to the dr. i have also tried equagesic, and butalbital. they were ok better than pamprin or anything like that. Just remember that many people have different reactions to any medication. Ponstel is on the market and I am sure that it does help many people. I was just not one of them. The side effects generally look bad on pretty much any medication too. The best thing i can tell you is to try it and see how it works for you. if you have a bad side effect stop taking it and ask for something else."

does birthcontrol help for really bad cramps? i take a perscription called ponstel for my cramps and it barely helps!! i want somthing stronger..and im trying to get my mom to get me birthcontrol... but will it really help? i jsut got my period and im in so much pain right now!!! ahahah HELP??

Chris D replied: "could help by preventing labor pains"

Cinoi1551 replied: "If you are put on the right dosage and prescription of birth control pills it can do wonders for your cramps. If you are put on the wrong dosage or prescription of birth control, it can make your periods, your non-period days, and everything in between an emotional and physical nightmare. It is really all about finding what is best for you. If you do not think this is working, do some research about birth control, talk to your mom and discuss that you want to talk to your doctor about birth control. If you are going into it with more knowledge other than just complaining then your mother might be more open to the idea. However, keep in mind that you may have to try multiple brands and dosages and it may take months for the cramps to be better. However, it is worth a shot. Good Luck."

Auvura L replied: "YES!! just ask me if absolutely does. My dad is an OBGYN and he says 95% of the time pills "relive" not stop but relive cramps."

Princess Leia replied: "I used to have that too... bc pills helped somewhat, but it took a while to shorten my pds and make them less severe... I still had to take painkillers though. Now I take prescription Naproxen (basically 2 Aleve's in one pill)... I have to take it as soon as I feel the cramps coming on. I take it every 6-8 hours. It stops most of the pain. If I wait until I actually have bad pain, the pain will not stop. You have to be careful with Naproxen/Aleve if you have a sensitive stomach though. The other prescriptions for pain that the Dr gave me never worked. In the meantime... just try to relax, I know it's tough... Put a heating pad or hot water bottle on your abdomen and try to get some sleep. When you wake up they will be a little better."

Jamie L replied: "birth control pills do wonders for problems with periods. If you have problems with your recent pill ask your dr. about trying a new one. I have had many menstral problems. A dr. told me the pill regulates your hormones to regulate your periods but to be consistant with a pill for 3 months then if no luck try a new pill. There are so many types of them out there. Patience ,a talk with your dr.,hot pads, ibuprofen, and a good multi vitamin daily will help. Calcium is good for periods. this is available as a vitamin too. The vitamin magnesium helps with cravings especially for sweets. And a natural remedy is raspberry tea. Take care and hang in there. I hope it all turns out for you!!!"

Lily replied: "It does help. I feel your pain. Tonight I started like sobbing in the middle of dinner. My relatives were in town, so it was a bit embarrassing."

Safe to use expired Ponstel? It's my sisters pain medicine for her period, but it expired august of last year. Will it still work?

Side effects of Ponstel? My doctor prescribed me ponstel for menstrual cramps. He didn't mention any problems I might have taking it, but did anyone have any unpleasant side effects?

How long do you have cramps before period? Is there anyway to shorten it? For a week I feel like someone has kicked me through the spine with steel toed boots. Been taking ponstel - not impressed. Birth control is not an option. Last time I took it I bled for 8 MONTHS straight. I have hemorhaggic cysts. Are there a treatment for those? I lost my nsurance a week after I was diagnosed - but I'm just curious.
