should I not drink coffee while taking effexor? Have been taking 175mg for 4 days, and have not slept in 3 nights. Was taking 35mg for a week previous to this dose, and slept fine. Will I eventually adjust and be able to sleep? Does coffee have a bad reaction with this drug? I feel I need it to "wake up", but then feel anxious. I feel like such a mess right now.

stupid sh*t by girlicious rules! replied: "no"

hipieeee replied: "my mom takes effexor and she drinks like 6 coffees a day lol. if you're finding that you still cant sleep after like a week talk to your doctor about sleep medication. i switched medications a lot and i could never sleep so my doctor wrote me a prescription for sleeping pills. the only thing with the pills though is that you become really dependant on them."

Evie's Alter Ego replied: "I was on 325mg of effexor and never really had an issue with coffee. I think that effexor is the issue. I never slept when I was on it. Effexor did me more harm than good."

Just me replied: "From 35mg to 175mg is too big of a jump at once. Some people are drug sensitive and need to increase gradually. I'd cut out the coffee for awhile and drop back down to 35mg; then increase a little each week."

Dee Dee P replied: "I am having the same problem. I am taking 150mg. I actually feel more nervous and hyper. I went from one extreme to the other. I was very tired and depressed to now having alot of energy and it has helped my depression. I rather feel this way than the way I felt before. It's almost like the medication needs to be tweeked a little bit. I drink GoChi juice before I go to bed at night and it seems to help. GoChi juice cost about $50.00 a bottle but will last about 1.5 months. You take 2 to 4 ounces a day. Be sure and take it at night. It is full of antioxidents, actually everyone should take it for their health!!! Goggle it on the internet. Good luck"

Deyon W replied: "DRINK A MODERATE AMOUNT"

Has anyone else switched from Paxil to Effexor? I was taking Paxil (40 mg) for 7 years. It worked for the anxiety the whole time but stopped working for the depression. 8 days ago I was switched to Effexor (150 mg) and I feel like I drank 10 cups of coffee and it is hard to focus. Does this get better or should I take half a dose tomorrow?

wm replied: "talk to your pharmacist or doctor or phone a health line. some pills work others dont so talk to a health professional."

Sue L replied: "I'm on Effexor too, & I know that sometimes I get like that- crazy hyper, fidgety, can't sit still, etc. I am on 110 mg myself, which is a very low dose, & I took 150 ml by mistake the other day, & I was boucing off the walls..lol! U probably just need to be on a lower dose, like 110 mg. Talk to ur DOC..."

ASR replied: "I take 300mg Effexor and do very well on it. I built up to this dose over time. It might take a few weeks for the your body to adjust. I would not recommend messing around with your dosage that is something for the doctor to determine. If you are taking Effexor XR it is extended release and a certain amount stays in your system working until the next dosage is administered. If you are willing to wait and see how it will work for you then give it a chance. If not then you should schedule an appointment with your Doctor to discuss other medication options. I have had medicines stop working for me like the Paxil did for you. It could be that if you try something different for a few months your Doctor might be willing to but you back on Paxil. That is what I had to do with Trazodone. I was on it for several years then it stopped working. I went on a two different medicines, one after the other for two years, then went back on the Trazodone. I just needed a break from it. Maybe that is what is happening to you."
