Ahorn replied: "I would recommend you to watch following DVD that is available online if you have fast internet. It's told by psychiatrists, psychologists and people who worked for pharmaceutical companies. It informs you - beside other things - about side effects that are not often being told by psychiatrists. It also suggests an alternative in the end. When you then make a decision to take antidepressants, you may be better prepared, educated and understand what's going on when you encounter some bad side effects. I would say that these information are actually vital. The link sounds a little scary - thats because many antidepressants have suicidal thoughts and impulses as side effects which you can also read inside the pack of some antidepressants."

If someone has an allergy to codiene, morpheine and most opiant based meds, is there an alternative pain med? Tried gabapentin, tramadol and nefopam, all with major side effects. Any help would be appreciated.

leeander66 replied: "Hey! I got those allergies too! I just tell all my doctors and dentists and let them work it out. There have been some bad reactions - I found out I can't do sulfa drugs either. Guess I just have to avoid pain:)"

kid on the block replied: "I had accupan once which I was OK with but I'm not sure if it is strong enough. I am violently sick with codeine etc and I was OK with it."

Just Me replied: "Tramadol is an opiod drug is synthetic and very similar to Codeine. Try Aspirin based medicines, Ibuprofen, Anadin plus. These are good ones."

How can i prevent or relieve migraines? Weekly migraines are taking over my days,i have 2/3 a week,i am not stressed,i have checked my diet,.i just cannot find the trigger! i have suffered since i was 17,33 now,and they are becoming more painfull and more frequent. My GP has prescribed migralieve, then sanomigran, then rizatriptan, propranalol and now almotriptan, none of which work.I would prefer to use herbal remedies because i am on other medication for osteoarthritis, mainly tramadol and gabapentin.BUT I WOULD TRY ANYTHING!! Oh and i have had my eyes checked for strain, they were fine, and i do not take a contraceptive pill.Any advice would be really welcomed,Thankyou to anyone who takes the time to answer,i do appreciate it X X X

wolverine replied: "Try accupuncture from a legit doctor. It helps alot."

classic1957gal replied: "I used to have migraines on a regular basis. Doctor prescribed the Imitrex inhaler, and it worked quite well, but I hate taking medicine. So I bought a book on self-hypnosis, and it has done the trick for me! Sounds crazy, but it really has worked well. I think I bought it on Amazon. Good luck to you cuz I know how miserable they can make life."

Answer Fairy replied: "Accupuncture. Also, but black-out blinds for your bedroom. Try getting 10 hours of sleep in a VERY dark, VERY quiet room. Or at least 8. Try switching caffeine for tea. Try not eating chocolate. There is no absolute answer. It's trial an error. My mom had them and she found out sugar was her trigger, even fruit...."

Ideizzil replied: "I have the same problem and I am now 23, I really don't know what is really up with the headaches cause it seems as though every over the counter pill doesn't work for me...My professor told me once I feel the headache is coming on drink something with caffeine in it it will help alleviate some of the pain, she also said hypnosis and meditation helps. I haven't tried the hypnosis but I have tried to meditate and that helped some. I feel your pain and I wish all the best to you."

infra red replied: "Stop the drugs............try alternative medicine..........then sleep."

Tanner replied: "Well I always write down what I did that day before the migraine in my "migraine journal". i write down almost everything i did, Ex. I ran for 30 mins on a gravel road, there was a thunderstom, i ate tacos for lunch.... It really helped me figgure out what was going on...... I personaly cannot eat much chocolate (It sucks), rapid light (like lightning, strobe lights, candle light flickering), runing on uneven roads (like gravel), plus more set off my migraines...... I also showed my journal to my doctor and he said that this was a good thing to do.... I really hope this helps and if not i hope you find a good way to fight the devil that is migraines...... Good luck, and have a good migraine free day!"

carnaby_fudge replied: "check some other physiological things. misaligned teeth can cause migraines. some people get braces and the migraines go away. spinal misalignment can also cause migraines. muscles pulling in different directions to keep your head/back straight can be a major cause (that's what causes my migraines; 1-2/week). there are also chemical causes of migraines. not always your diet but your environment. if your migraines are that bead see an internist or specialist. they can give you a more complete work over instead of just trying different meds (which are onbviously not working). i have nothing against herbal remedies but it sounds like meds are not the answer for you. go to doctor and get a complete work over to find the problem."

animespaz replied: "I know some pressure points that I use for headaches. There is one on the bone pard of your nose between the eyes, press on both sides for a few seconds. You can repeat a few times. There is also a trigger point on the fleshy point between you thumb and pointer finger. Press around until you feel a tinggle and hold for a few seconds. I believe that medications only help you feel better, but do not always fix the problem. Some people find relief in elimating the toxins in their body. You can do this by eating natural food that dosen't contain pesticides and such. I hope this helps and I hope you can find relief."

*Gigi* replied: "there's a herbal remedy which is supposed to be very good for migraines, it's called Butterbur (please see article for more details), & the product that contains this is called Migravoid. But u have 2 take it over a peroid of time to see real results. Please also type in migraine in search, this is a gem of a site for advice for natural remedies.look through as not all are relevant but the Q&A at the end is very good."

Kelley E replied: "I have no financial interest in the recommendation I'm about to make. About two weeks ago, a customer came into my store and told me about his wife's severe, sicko, vomiting type migraines. The two of them were staying in a hotel, and sure enough she was pale in bed, sick as a dog. A women that was with them offered her to use some Sinus Buster for MIGRAINES, but she turned her down saying she'd tried everything. In response the other lady said she'd offered this to four other people and every time the result was the same...the migraine went away. So the migraine sufferer decided to try it. Her husband told me her migraine disappeared instantly. In twenty minutes she was out the door. Several hours later while they were still out, her husband asked her how she was doing. She told him she was perfectly normal. Sinus Buster makes a variety of sprays, including another one that is for headaches...that's not the one you want. Get the one for migraines. Good luck! Kelley"

kasscabel replied: "Hydroxy Tryptophan Numerous clinical studies suggest that taking 5-HTP (Hydroxy Tryptophan) supplements increase Serotonin which has been found to have important antidepressant benefits. Higher levels of Serotonin are associated with decreased depression, improved sleep, alleviation of anxiety, relief from and prevention of migraine headaches and weight loss resulting from reduced carbohydrate cravings. Reduced levels of Serotonin are associated with feelings of stress, anxiety and helplessness. 5-HTP assists in increasing your brain's Serotonin level gently and naturally by providing the precursor material for the syntheses of Serotonin. Other symptoms of Serotonin deficiency can include: carbohydrate cravings, migraines, obsessive compulsive behaviors, and other behavioral disorders. Restoring Serotonin is the basis for one of the most popular classes of drugs prescribed today. These drugs, including Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil and others are widely used to treat depression, anxiety, and insomnia. They are effective because they increase the availability of Serotonin. Increasing the availability of the Serotonin also helps the Amino Acid 5-Hydroxy Tryptophan work. This means that the body uses some of the 5-HTP in your diet to make Serotonin. Increase 5-HTP and you may increase Serotonin. Is 5-HTP the same as Tryptophan? No. The body takes Tryptophan and converts it to 5-HTP, which it then converts to Serotonin. Hydroxy Tryptophan may cause drowsiness and should not be taken while driving or operating machinery. Link below for more infomation...good luck"

What cures a vaginal rash ? I have a friend who told me she has gotten a vaginal rash but she is'nt sure why it came to be. She takes different medications and thinks it is the high mg of morphine she has to take each day along with different medications .Also , they recently raised her mg of Morphine due to it becoming not strong enough to help her pain. She also takes Gabapentin , Tramadol , Promethazine , Neurotyn , Nexium , and a pill for sleeping . Lucena perhaps ? She has severe back and leg injuries from a wreck and years later another injury from work occurring . She is in constant pain each and every day the majority of the day . They have tried antibiotics and different meds. Any suggestions would be greatly helpful and appreciated. Thank you.

Sayin replied: "Personally i think drugs may help in one area of our bodies but causes so much damage in another. I believe that natural remedies like water must be taken into our body systems, at least 8 standard glasses everyday and A nice peice of fresh baked fish always does good for a tried body. I would not give her anymore acid foods, as this can also cause rash in the areas that are always covered."

Sciatica, tramadol injection worked on back but can't stand or walk for more than 5 minutes? I had a bad case of sciatica for which I was given a double does injection of Tramadol on this past Wed. I was also put on gabapentin 300mg 3x a day and celebrex 200mg 1x a day and additional oral tramadol 50mg 1 or 2 tabs every 6 to 8 hours a day.Everything has worked great no longer have pain in my lower back or right buttock however the pain is still in my right thigh and right calf all on the backsides. I only can walk or stand for abou 5 minutes before the pain is so bad I have to o lay down on my left side with my legs slightly bent to find any relief. I have a horrible burning and pins and needles feeling and it seems to feel numb and cold like the blood has stopped flowing in my leg. The doctor said he didn't feel sspasms at my appointment even though I ad and I thought I needed a muscle relaxer. I'm desperate for some help, I'm moving in the next week or so and this is even affecting how much time I can play with my 2year old girl and that's not acceptable to me. can anyone help?

slimthing replied: "ask for toradol"

LW replied: "I work in physical therapy and also you sound fairly young. I am surprised your doctor would put you on Celebrex at your age. You need to get an MRI, go see a neurologist at this point. You have symptoms of nerve root compression and the MRI will rule out bulging or herniations in your discs. Medications are only masking your symptoms and will not relieve the compression. Your sacrum/pelvis is most likely out of alignment and it would be wise of your doctor to send you to a good manual physical therapist to be evaluated. In the meantime do not bend or lift."

Richard C replied: "Michelle, try this to see if it doesn't reduce your complaints. Sit in a straight chair with the thighs parallel to the floor and your feet flat on the floor. Twist as far to one side as you can and then to the other. One side or the other is going to move further than the other even if it is only by a slight amount. Start with the side that moves further. Twist as hard and as far to that side as possible for fifteen seconds and relax for thirty seconds. Repeat that sequence twice more always pushing as hard and far as possible for the fifteen seconds. Once that has been done now do it in the opposite direction. Turn as far and hard as you can for fifteen seconds and relax for thirty. Do that twice more and rest. Stand up and walk around and try to move in a way that was restricted before. You should be able to move further and with more comfort. Sit down again and this time raise one arm up past your head and note how far it elevates. Do the opposite arm and whichever arm goes up further use that as the starting point. Raise that arm up as high and hard as you can for fifteen seconds and relax for thirty. Do this twice more and then switch to the opposite arm. Raise that arm up as high and hard as you can for fifteen seconds and rest for the thirty seconds. Repeat that cycle twice more. Now get up again and move around. You should notice more mobility and less pain. Continue with those movements until there is no further restrictions or pain. See a physical therapist for further exercises to strenghten your body and improve posture. Use ice on the area for pain for fifteen to twenty minutes per hour as needed."

Please help me? I have numerous ailments that are being treated by so many pills that i am being physically sick every time i try to take is there anyway that i can get them in a liquid form? these are ( metformin, ibuprofen, imodium, tramadol, gabapentin oxactin and metoclopramide, Please help a desperate sufferer I suffer from multiple tumours brain and kidney and also have polycystic ovarian syndrome, plus 3other medical probs for which i wont bore you with, But much appreciate any answers or help

Kris replied: "Ibuporofen and Immodium are available in liquids. I don't know about the others. Do you follow the directions regarding whether to take them with food or water? Unless they say to take them on an empty stomach, it's a good idea to take pills with food. If some require an empty stomach, take them first then wait a while to take the others with food. Also, make sure you talk to the Dr. if the problem persists!"

Bexs replied: "Why are you on all of these drugs? Many seem to be related to your tummy and painkillers. This is not good for you and probably why you are vomiting. If you have problems with your digestion you should not be taking imodium or metformnin - try getting off these and eating a balanced diet. Wherever possible, you need to try and sort out ailments the natural way i.e. prevention better than cure. Change your lifestyle - sorry to sound harsh but these drugs are not good for you and as far as I can see are not for anything substantial."

laplandfan replied: "Go back to your Gp and ask for them in liquid form. The tastes of some of them may not be pleasant though. Some docs try not to give liquid forms as they are sometimes more expensive. Explain to your doctor how sick it is making you. He may also want to check you are not sensitive to any of those meds you are taking. The metocloprmide should help you stop feeling sick. Could you take that one about an hour before the other meds? This may stop you feeling sick."

sweet one replied: "metroclopramide comes as oral suspension metformin no ibuprofen you can use chidrens nurofen but will need to work out the equivalent dose. tramadol no gabapentin no oxactin no I hope this is of some help to you. If you cannot manage these like this then maybe it would be worthwhile speaking to the GP to see if he can give you alternatives. Good luck"

SH2007 replied: "Hi michelle, Metformin can be got as liquid oral solution see this link: tablets such as aniddin and Nurofen contain ibuprofen, but you would need to check this out, as it may not be eqvilant to your tablet. imodium comes in liquid form: Immodium A-D Liquid and New Immodium A-D Liquid I don't think tramadol does. according to this link gabapentin comes in liquid form: however i don't no if that differs from gabapentin oxactin and according to intenet sources metoclopramide also comes in liquid form. I am in no way medically trained, and I deffinately believe that you need to ask you doctor about the avaiablity of these drugs in different forms, because sometimes there is reasons fo medication to be given in capules (they are slower releasing into the system) and perhaps your doctor feels giving you oral medication would eithe rnot be as effective..or too strong. Please talk to them. it seems you are suffering a lot and I just wanted to give you some hope. however please note that you doctor should no best and sometimes certain drugs and forms of them are only avaiable in certain countries...or at a certain price. x"

Prescription prices in Spain? I'm moving to Andalucia in June (from Birmingham, UK), and taking my disabled Mother with me. In fact, one of the main reasons for going is that the warm climate should alleviate her symptoms and give her back some quality of life. One of my concerns though is how she might be able to access the medication she needs (as prescribed by her UK GP). I heard that she should have no problems getting her prescriptions continued in Spain - is this true? And I understand that there is no fixed price system for prescriptions, but that you pay the cost of the drug? Does anyone have any idea what she might have to pay for the following drugs...? Tramadol Gabapentin Dihydrocodeine Morphine Zopiclone Sertraline I'm really hoping that the cost won't be too high!!! Thanks! Both tremendous answers - thank you!!! My mother is only 52 though - do you know how that affects the situation?

Littlemo replied: "If you mother is of UK retirement age, she will automatically qualify for cover by the Spanish system, although you will have to make sure you access the system with the correct documents, I think the office in Newcastle can assist with this. Once registered & accepted, she will receive a card which must be produced at each visit. Prescriptions are issued by the Doctor & providing you have this card , you can then receive reduced precriptions when dispensed at the Farmacia. Unfortunately, I don't know if the drugs available would be the same, or a Spanish Doctor would just carry on with the same treatment. One point to remember, you'll probably find it easier if you live on the coast, where a Doctor at the local Salud (clinic) may speak English. We live inland from Malaga, only 20 mins from the coast, but the language can be a problem. The cost of taking a translator with you for an appointment must be taken in to account. Hope this helps a little. As your mother is only 52, she will not automatically qualify for Health cover. This is something you really need to check out, several options, but please take advice. I take it she will not be working, so unable to contribute via Social Security payments. Do you intend to work, if so, you could check if this would cover your Mother? Private cover is the alternative, but expensive & they wouldn't normally cover pre-existing conditions. If you become 'self-employed' or 'automino' you pay your own SS payments but I would advise you really check all this out as it could be a minefield in the circumstances. I could recommened someone to advise, but will probably cost you. Let me know if required. Some people stay 'registered' in the UK, but this is really illegal & as you Mother needs considerable help, not a good idea. Please note, I have stated what I know from the system, but not an expert, that is why I suggest getting professional advice and consider ALL the options."

hilverchas replied: "ALL DRUGS FOR PENSIONERS IS FREE, So long as you are registered with a doctor here, all paperwork in order you will not be charged one cent, my mother has had excellent help through her illness, she was in hospital in Malaga for 2 months, treated like a queen, the docs were wonderful, she had 1/2 her colon removed, recovered very well, she is 84..............aftercare nursing was good, interpreters on hand should you not understand anything, she would nOT have had the help and service at her age in the UK, she would have been classed as too old to bother with!! Bring all paperwork you can with you, get registered with a doc here as soon as you arrive, you should have no trouble whatsoever, the care of the elderly here is good - in fact excellent......................good luck with your move! We came here from Leicester, 26 years ago, need I say more!"

I've got a couple of prolapsed discs and my doc has given me diazepam...? ...to relax the muscles when it's really bad. Trouble is, it doesn't work at all! He's only given me 2mg tablets and they don't even touch it. Can I take more than one or should I go back to him? I'm also on Tramadol and Gabapentin

Kiwi-pie replied: "2mg will not do much. to be honest sounds like you need something stronger. yes you could take 2 safely but dont drive on that coctkail of drugs!! i would go back to him and get reassessed."

lindz replied: "you may be better asking for baclofen 10 mg they are also a relaxant for muscles and they are more effective if your pain is in your back go and have a word with your dr and ask if they could give you a trial as they can be taken with gabapentin and tramadol good luck"

What is an abnormal liver function result and could it be a side effect of morphine? My husband has been on morphine capsules for over 2 years for pain caused by Ankylosing Spondylitis. Doctors have said pain management is the best we can hope for. But now his liver function tests have come back at 83? Apparently 40 is normal and his is 83. I don't know what this means. We have an emergency appointment with GP tomorrow but does anyone know what this means? They asked him if he drinks alcohol (he doesn't) which led me to think it must be bad. He's on morphine, tramadol, celebrex, gabapentin al heavy duty painkillers - could they be damaging his liver? I'm so worried but feel like I can't ask the doctor a million questions with my husband present because I don't want him to know I'm so worried. He can't work and doesn't get any benefits because I work full-time. He's been refused for Disability so he worries about the future a lot and gets depressed a lot. If anyone has any medical knowledge / general advice I'd be very grateful. Ps. My husband is only 35 years old and we live in the UK

Someones' Mom replied: "You have some wonderful questions. And you may have to tell your husband to be prepared, because you are going to address your questions with his doc. And if he has a problem with that, he can sit in the car. You have every right in the world to know what is going on with your mate. Anyone would be worried since your husband has a condition that carries with it very few options for treatment. You wrote this:" I'm so worried but feel like I can't ask the doctor a million questions with my husband present because I don't want him to know I'm so worried." I am sure you have your reasons for not wanting your husband to know that you are worried......I personally would be worried, as it seems a normal reaction toward someone you love. And maybe if he had a little idea as to how you are trying to educate yourself about his condition, he may just feel a little better....... The liver is a filter and carries with it over 400 functions. EVERYTHING we injest goes through the liver. He is taking a lot of medications. His function shows working overtime.....can ask the doc how to get those values down. Any medication we take can wreak havoc on our livers. The morphine, made from poppys, may be having less effect than the gabapentin (anti seizure used for neuropathy and pain, mood), Celebrex (antiinflammatory) tramadol (non narcotic pain for mild to moderate relief). If your husband is feeling some depression, I would expect him to be on an antidepressant as well. (It could be that the liver is being affected by the AS as well). I believe you have every right to be worried, and a wonderfully supportive wife......if your husband doesn't know this, he should!!"
