How much children's motrin to give my baby...? What in the world is the average dose of children's motrin (ibuprofen) for an infant?
I usually give my baby .4ml of tylenol but we are going to try motrin now. Is it the same dose?
Andrea replied: "None unless the doctor tells you to."
*+*Sanity is Overrated*+* replied: "Read the bottle, or call a number located on the bottle. Maybe try going to the websites homepage.."
MamaB replied: "None if under 6 months, otherwise do a search on line for motrin dosing charts and you will find one that uses weight as a guide.
EDIT: Oh, and you asked for a baby, then said "children's" motrin. I would not give children's motrin but Infants. And remember none before six months."
penny replied: "that baby is so cute! I would wait to ask the dr. b'c i dont have children. good luck."
ladybold04 replied: "I would strongly advise you to contact her pediatrician for this. Very serious question and no one else should answer it but the doctor."
Crystal J replied: "yes it usually the same dose.BUT you have to alternate it. Tylenol you can give to a baby ever fourth hour throughout the day but motrin you have to alternate like motrin then Tylenol four hrs later than motrin the next time then Tylenol or whatever the next. Motrin is very harsh on a baby belly even if its infants. same with adults you are supposed to do the same thing."
Cole's Mommy - TTC #2 replied: "Don't give your child any until talking to the doctor first!!"
starlightstrm replied: "Children's motrin none infants only should be taking infants medication."
Melyssa replied: "You cant give motrin to under 6 mos old. No its not. 50.mg/1.25 ml you give 1.25 ml to kid 6 mos to 11 mos ( under 17 lbs ) and 1.9 ml to 18-24 lbs or under two year old. 100mg/5ml one you give 1 tsp for 2-3 year old. These I got from my dr. so they should be correct. If hes under 6 mos dont give him any. He shouldnt have ibuprofen yet. Dont know why exactly"
mystic_eye_cda replied: "If you tell me the strength on the bottle (listed as mg/mL somewhere) and your baby's weight I can calculate the dosage for you.
IM me if you want help, I know its basic but it confuses some.
IBUPROFEN DOSAGE
Click here for dosing chart. Although the package might not give a dosage for under two years, it can be safely used down to two months of age (it used to only be approved down to 6 months, but in 2001, it was proven to be safe and effective down to two months of age). Some packages will use an age range to figure dose, but it is more effective to dose by weight. The dose is 4.5 milligrams per pound of body weight (for metric users, that's 10mg per kilo). For example: a 22-pound child would get about 100mg (22 X 4.5 =99). This comes out to one teaspoon of the children's liquid. Some books recommend half this dose for "low grade" fevers below 102.5 but I have found this to just wear off sooner, requiring more medication."
Isaac's mommy and TTC#2 replied: "NONE! you only give children under two the infant motrin or tylenol never childrens. And if your infant is under 6 months you need to ask your doctor. If her age/weight is not on the dosage chart then you need to consult a doc before giving her ANYTHING!"
Deborah P replied: "What is the weight of the infant??
This is for use with infant drops
9-10 pounds it is 1/2 dropper(0.625 ml) or
11-16 pounds it is 1 dropper(1.25 ml)
17-21 pounds it is 1 1/2 dropper(1.25 + 0.625 ml)
this is for childrens strength
11-16 pounds it is 1/2 teaspoon(2.5ml)
17-21 pounds it is 3/4 teaspoon(3/75 ml)
22-26 pounds it is 1 teaspoon(5ml)
this is the dosage chart that my pedi said to use for motrin
and I will also provide the one for tylenol
You can safely alternate between the 2 every 3 hours as needed!!!"
Frosta Darlin replied: "The bottle I have is 40mg/1ml
12-17 lbs (4-11 months) 1.25ml
18-23lbs (12-23 months) 1.875ml
It should come with a syringe with those exact doses on it.
And always go by weight, try not to use the age factor."
sevenofus replied: "If your baby is less than 6 months old do not give her ibuprofen (Children's Motrin) unless your physician has told you to. I have the Professional Dosage Chart given to me by the doctor in ER when we had our daughter in for hallucinating, listlessness, and 104.7 fever. In children who are 6-11 months and weigh 13-17 pounds the correct dosage is 1/4 teaspoon for fever under 102.5 F and 1/2 teaspoon for fever over 102.5 F. For babies 12-23 months who weigh 18-23 pounds the dosage is 1/2 teaspoon for fever under 102.5 and 1 teaspoon for fever over 102.5. Dosage can be given every 6-8 hours. Infant Tylenol drops are not the same concentration as Children's Motrin."
kitty maybe ingested ibuprofen? Kitty maybe ingested ibuprofen?
basically an alarming phone call distracted me from my ibuprofen that i just opened to take for a migraine and of course worse case scenario my 8 month old kittens decided to have a party and knock them over and play with them... i know they don't know better and i SHOULD know better but it is one of those crapy circumstances that happened :0(
they were 200 mg ibuprofen and when I heard the crash from upstairs I immediately came to clean it up but knowing that ibuprofen can be fatal in animals the mommy in me freaked out at the possibility of one of my babies eating one so i rushed them to the nearest vet who had an opening... BUMMED that my vet was completely booked.
they first induced vomiting and one of my kittens did but one wouldn't.. they then gave them liquid under their skin (looks like a big bump in their skin) The kitty who did vomit is my kitty that is the most curious and they found no signs of ibuprofen in the vomit which was a good sign. They wanted my kitties to still stay there for a few days which was going to cost an arm and a leg. I called my actual vet to see if this was necessary since they only would have had time to ingest one 200mg tablet and i don't even REALLY think they did. My vet told me to ask them to give the cats charcoal and to send some home with me. I decided to do this since I trust my vet, don't really think they ingested it, and the visit was already reaching $500... not that i should base my decisions on money but I'm just a first year teacher and unfortunately don't have $1500-2000 sitting around. my current vet also told me that the vet i was at is known for trying to do everything worse case so that your bill is very expensive when in all reality it might not be necessary.
I just wanted to see if anyone else has ever went through this. I'm worried about them!
I also found online that the toxic dose of ibuprofen to cause stomach ulcers is 50mg per pound and 150mg per pound to cause kidney failure. well my kitties way more than 4 pounds so it sounds like while one 200mg ibuprofen i'm sure is NOT GOOD... sounds not fatal??
advice... comments... THANKS!

Additional Details
they want me to give the charcoal 4-5 times every 6 hours.... does anyone know why so many times?
also, they are hissing at each other like crazy and have never done this? is this normal behavior when they don't feel good. they are just walking up to each other and hissing... also they aren't eating much and i'm guessing they just don't feel good since i'm cramming this yucky goop down their throat
but all that for only MAYBE 200mg Ibuprofin? i read that the toxic amount for cats to cause ulcers is 50mg per pound and to cause kidney damage/failure it was 150mg per pound.... my kittens weigh a lot more than 4 pounds so I don't even think it is a toxic level so now i just feel like i'm being mean to my poor babies
Does this happen when a baby is teething? okay, my daughter is about fourteen months old and has been teething. Yesterday afternoon, it was brought to my attention that she had a new tooth, about an hour later, she developed a fever of not quite but around 104 degreees, and it's definitely gone down and even away at times since then, but I just put her to bed with a dose of ibuprofen and a 101 degree fever. The last time she cut a tooth, she had a fever as well and night waking for about a week. But that fever never went over 102 degrees. Anyway, there are no symptoms at all with this fever, and it always goes dowm with ibuprofen, but it has been coming back. She's almost had it two days now and I am worried about it. All the nurse said yesterday was to give her a tepid bath and some ibuprofen, and I did that, but I don't know how long I should let this go on before taking her to her doctor, I'm thinking if she still has it tomorrow we can go then. She got her flu shot about four days before getting this fever, but like I said, the fever is the only symptom she has. I was just wondering if this will happen with teething or if this is cause for concern.
Pain meds for a parakeet with arthritis? I have a 6.5 year old parakeet with bad arthritis in one of her feet. Is there anything (ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc) I can mix in her water to help alleviate her pain? What dose per oz? She already has her choice of soft, flat, and heated perches. She still seems to struggle. Please help me help my baby girl.
Oni replied: "Do NOT give your parakeet any medicine that has not been prescribed and given to you by an avian vet. Giving a bird human medication is dangerous- most animals cannot handle it and die very quickly. Animals cannot tolerate ibuprofen, Tylenol, and many other "human" medications.
Also, your parakeet is not "aged." My parakeet is only about a year younger than hers, and she's "middle aged" at best. Parakeets can live to be between 15 and 20.
If you want to provide your parakeet with pain medication, then you need to take her to see an avian vet."
ms bell replied: "You need to take your parakeet to an avian vet. The vet can confirm that it has arthritis (or anything else it may have) and give it medication to help relieve the pain. She might get something similiar to tylenol (I've had a budgie in a similar situation). The vet knows the right dosage for your bird, which is based on body weight. Don't use any medications for humans or anything you see in the pet store. Those medications could harm your bird. Also, they may not work. Please get to the vet as soon as possible."
Babies 1st tooth? My daughter is 5 1/2 months old and cut her 1st bottom tooth on April 1st. During the last 3 days she has vomitted twice, had loose stools, fevers of around 99 to 100 on and off, and has been constantly irritibility. I love my baby but I'm going nuts. The screaming, biting and moodiness is heartbreaking. I have tried everything and little relieves her pain. I've tried tylenol, teething rings, wet washcloth, frozen rings, teething pills, orajel and tonight I gave her a dose of Ibuprofen. Is her 2nd tooth coming in or is all this pain related to the 1st tooth she already cut? Also how long does it take for the 2nd bottom tooth to follow the first?
Mrs. Andres replied: "Votmiting and loose stools arent a symptom of cutting a tooth, some parents may say there child has runnier stools but vomiting deff isnt a symptom. I think she's sick, nothing more."
Mandee replied: "I would contact your doctor. It sounds like it could be more than teething."
Maria B replied: "I'm pretty sure the timing of her first tooth is totally unrelated to the timing of her other teeth. Do you see a blister or a second tooth coming in? I'd say that these symptoms sound like teething symptoms, but if you are unsure, maybe you should contact your ped. Try getting one of those cheesecloth self-feeders and stick an ice cube in it. My daughter loves that."
nonny replied: "When in doubt, don't attribute baby's behavior to teething. Let your doctor decide. Yet, here are some general ways to tell the difference between teething and an illness such as an ear infection:
1. Teething mucus is clear saliva and doesn't run out the nose. Cold mucus is thick and yellow. A nasal discharge usually means an allergy or an infection, especially if accompanied by eye drainage.
2. Teething rarely causes a fever higher than 101 F (38.3 C).
3. Teething may be confused with an earache. Babies pull at their ears during teething, probably because of pain radiating from the teeth to the ears. Some babies just like playing with their ears. Ear-pulling in babies is an unreliable sign. With an ear infection babies usually hurt more lying down and have accompanying signs of a cold.
4. Babies don't act progressively sicker with teething. As a general rule, when in doubt, have your doctor check it out."
anglhrt1979 replied: "it can all depend maybe she is sick but as far as the second following the first they can come in within days of each other or even the same time teething is hard on both mom and baby but they have to come in hang in there try giving tylenol and after 2 hours give her ib proufen then 2 hours tylenol then i b profuen that way by alternating them they get the right ammount of time between doses good luck"
sms replied: "vomiting diarrhea and fever aren't actually symptoms of teething, If you are breast feeding just keep doing it to give her all the antibodies and immune support. if not then find an N.D. and ask about Colloidial Silver with goats milk or almond milk for a substitute"
Lily C replied: "I'm no doctor, but you should defiantly see one, and first stop giving her stuff, because that could make it worse, you never know, just be a little more careful"
iLUVbooks replied: "That sounds like more than just teething to me, especially the vomitting. none of my kids did that. I would make an appt. with your doctor especially as the pain reliever didn't work and little ones can get dehydrated so easily with the symptoms you described.
With my three kiddos, they cut their bottom teeth almost simultaneously, so the second one is coming soon. The uncomfortableness and crying is inevitable each time they teeth though, but in this instance is probably to to a tummy ache/stomach virus :(
You've tried all the right things for teething (although the freezer for the teething ring might be too cold for her, the fridge is best.) I hope your baby feels better soon."
14 month getting 4 molars at once and is miserable...HELP!!!? My 14 month old is getting 4 top molars at once (2 on each side) and is absolutely miserable. They have cut though just one edge for each tooth. I have tried everything and he is still pitiful. I have been giving him tylenol every four hours for the past two days and a dose of ibuprofen before bed. I have also tried teething tablets, cold washcloths, frozen bagels, and everything else that I can think of.
How long can I expect him to be miserable, cranky, not wanting to do anything but watch TV. I want my happy, joyful , spirited, sweet, baby back!!
Please HELP!! I would appreciate any suggestions....Thanks!! :-)
rocker_chic replied: "my son did son did about the same thing . i noticed with him , motrin worked the best and lasted the longest . i also gave him raw carrots , the big end to chew on help break the gums. the carrots can reach easier in the back . better than teething rings . good luck . it really doesnt last that long . and once it's over your happy joyful son wont have to go threw for awhile ."
Elizabeth B replied: "I would also try baby orajel- it worked wonders on my daughter.
Good luck!"
Just got a positive pregnancy test and I'm worried about the medications I've taken this week.... I just found out today that I'm probably pregnant (my pregnancy test had 2 lines but very faint)....I have been very sick with the strep throat and flu this week and have been taking prescription and OTC medications. My doctor prescribed antibiotics and I've also taken cough syrup, Ibuprofen 400 mg, 2 tylenol cold & sinus tablets, Mucinex DM, and also one dose of Diflucan for a yeast infection...(like I said- I've been very sick with pretty much everything this week!)
Is there any possibility of harming my baby if I am pregnant? I had NO CLUE that I could have been pregnant when I was taking these. I haven't taken anything since I found out. I'm making an appointment with my doc on Monday but until then should I be worried?
Thanks.

The medications i was taking due to this fall were ketoprofen and a painkiller(which i hardly took).i had had ketoprofen for 6 days and started on ibuprofen for next 4 days since the dose of ketoprofen was very small.......and then stopped it. i had always had my periods on time and normal till the last month. why this is happening?

Not getting answers from pediatrician....? My daughter is supposed to go back in 3 weeks, but we will most likely be making yet another trip tomorrow.
This all started in June, my then 9 month old daughter developed what I thought was a normal cold. She had the clear runny nose, then about 7-8 days later started with a slight cough that seemed to improve a bit after about 3 days. I was (and am still) attending classes 4 days a week and my mother watched my daughter during the day. This day she had a slight fever and I left my mom with instructions to use the ibuprofen or tylenol as needed. Other than that my daughter seemed fine. About an hour after arriving at school I received a call. My mom was panicked. My daughter passed out and was unconscious. I rushed leaving all of my things behind, to the ER. My daughter was barely conscious and when jostled she would quickly go out again. The workers in the ER rushed around and it felt like utter chaos. The the ER pediatrician came in. She started asking my mom about medications in the home. She swore up and down that my daughter ate some kind of medicine. They tested and tested and tested all the tox screens came back negative over the next 24 hours, by that time she was pretty much back to normal. They did find that she had an extremely elevated white blood cell count (something like 34) and administered IV antibiotics. They thought she may have an ear infection and a possible infection in her left lung (they did x-rays etc.)
At her second follow up I had to ask if they would re-test her White Blood Cell count as I was worried because my family has a history of childhood leukemia. They sent me to the hospital to have her blood drawn. The results showed it was quite lower (18).
They pretty much shrugged their shoulders and told me they have no answers as to why this happened to her.
Since then I have noticed she is constantly getting fevers and infections (last month we were treating for a urinary tract infection). She is always very pale. She has some days where she seems fine and then others where you can tell she doesn't feel well.
Today I cam home to a baby that had not slept all day and that was burning up with yet another fever. After a dose of tylenol and some cuddle time she is sleeping soundly.
She also seems to have a cough and runny nose that will clear up for a week and come back.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?? I am one tired, worried, frustrated mom.
Thank you for your responses. Yes this is her regular pediatrician.
serendipity_siren replied: "That is so sad, I feel horrible for you. Do you have a regular Ped. or have you just seen the ER Ped. The doctors in the ER, in my experience, have never been as helpful as my regular doctor. I wish I had some good advice, but sounds like you are already doing all you can. If you are not happy with what your doctor says go get a second opinion. I went through 5 doctors before I found my favorite. Good Luck!"
Jaz F replied: "To me, it sounds like an immune system problem. But, I am no doctor so don't take my word for it. Instead, book an appointment with a different doctor and explain your ideas to him/her. A second opinion and a different doctor can make all the difference."
mama_sayed replied: "Take her to a different pediatrician and get another opinion. There is a problem that the first dr. can't or doesn't want to check out. Leukemia is not easily diagnosed, but I don't know what all the symptoms are."
