What are these little red spots on my skin? They don't itch or even raise up off my skin. They have been there for two days. I am on some antibiotics(Levaquin) for a bladder infection and (allegra D) . I just went to the doctor yesterday because I thought I was having allergic reaction to the previous antibiotics( Bactrim). I really hate to call him again because of this. I keep getting hot flashy at night . I am really wanting to know what to do .
The spots are red and they are on just about my whole body.
*Nature Babe* replied: "Right off the bat, I think they are hives. You are probably right about having an allergic reaction. But I would definitely call the doctor, thats what he's there for. <3"
E.A. Boyd replied: "Call your pharmacist first and see if your symptoms are described in the list of likely reactions to the drug."
Are levaquin and clindamycin similiar? Do they work the same? I used clindamycin for a skin infection and was wondering if levaquin is similiar.
dremadagwa replied: "clindamycin is belong to a gb of antibiotic called macroloids it active aginst C+ve bacteria mainly and atypical infection while levaquin which contain the active ingradient of levofloxacin belong to gb called flurouquinolone which is mainly aginst G -ve and atypical infection and some G+VE it may be useful in your case and may not you should ask your doc first in addition it is adult only drug so if u are below 16 year it is contraindicated"
Anyone ever had a reaction to Levaquin with itchy bumps (not hives, though) on hands and face? I was recently on Levaquin for a sinus infection. I finished the prescription about 4 days or so before I began to get all of these little itchy bumps on the backs of my hands and around my wrists. I have had hives before many times and these do not look like hives, but literally like lots of little bumps. I also have them on my face now, although they don't itch on my face like they do on my hands. I haven't changed any soaps or anything dietary - does this sound like a reaction to Levaquin that you may have had? Or some other type of skin ailment? I'm interested to know ANYTHING.
Cagada35 replied: "i think my grandma had that because she never showered"
T-Rae replied: "You can develop an allergic reaction to certain medications, so it is very possible it could be due to the levaquin. It sounds like you are off the medication now. My advice to you is to take a benadryl or another antihistamine. If the rash doesn't clear un in a few days then see a doctor. Levaquin has rash as a possible side affect according to the Prescribing Information."
is my skin allergy to Ciprofloxacin a big deal/dangerous? i am allergic to many antibiotics. there was only 1 kind i can take. but my new doctor gave me something different that i remember being tolerable. i have used it several times with no problems, but the infection isnt clearing up, so now im on a higher dose, and a longer cycle. i am beginning to see signs of an allergic reaction (the exact same reaction i get from the other antibiotics that i have a known allergy to) I am scared to death to tell my doctor, because then there will be nothing left for me to take when i am very sick or have a bacterial infection. is a skin rash that serious? they are little red bumps with a whitehead. they are all over my chest, and they usually spread to belly, back, neck and face. usually they dont bother me, but right now, in the middle of a 14 day Cipro cycle, i am very itchy with hives. i get hives all the time for no reason though, so im not sure if its related or just from the stress of worrying. basically i DO NOT WANT TO TELL MY DR. ABOUT THIS because she will most likely put Cipro on my list of allergies and i will be left with nothing to take but Levaquin which is $90 for 3 days of treatment. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, i dont want to stop breathing and die or anything. i dont know what to do. i am scared of a bad reaction, but almost more afraid to have this med taken away from me. sorry i wrote so much. thank you in advance for any help.
Martin G replied: "You should tell your doctor about your symptoms as soon as possible. She should be able to figure out something safe and effective, but she needs correct information and feedback to do it."
I have a rash as a result of Levaquin. Could this cause dermagraphitis? I had a sinus infection and was put on Levaquin. I got rashes all over and my dr said I probably had an allergic reaction to it so I stopped taking it. It's been about 2 weeks now and I still have the rash, I think it is getting worse. I found some info on the internet about dermagraphitis or dermagraphia? I get really itchy patches, sometimes with bumps sometimes not, and if I scratch myself or something is up against my skin for a period of time, I get raised red lines on my skin for almost an hour. What can I do to treat it? Benadryl helps but I'm tired all the time!! If I don't take Benadryl it gets bad. Which is why I am up right now at 4:30 am, the itching is so bad I can't sleep. Please HELP!! Thanks

Dermatographic urticaria (also known as dermographism, dermatographism or"skin writing")is a skin disorder seen in about 5 percent of the population,in which the skin becomes raised and inflamed when touched, even lightly. Dermatographic urticaria is caused by mast cells in the surface of the skin releasing histamines due to the presence of a weak membrane surrounding the mast cells. The histamines released cause the skin to swell in the affected areas. This weak membrane easily and rapidly breaks down under physical pressure causing an allegic-like reaction, generally a red welt to appear on the skin. It can often be confused with an allergic reaction to the object causing a scratch, when in fact it is the act of being scratched that causes a welt to appear. These wheals are a subset of hives that appear within minutes, accompanied by a sensation of burning, and/or itchiness. The redness and swelling stays from anywhere upwards of 10 minutes. Often this leads to difficulty sleeping, irritability, and general discomfort. It can be treated by antihistamines or cromoglicate, as they prevent the histamine from causing the reaction. The underlying cause of dermographism is not known, and can last for many years without relief. 95% of chronic cases are never solved. Sometimes the condition goes away. Determining whether or not dermographia is associated with allergies can be difficult if the allergies are not already identified. This is because a common method for testing for allergies involves rubbing various allergens against the skin. Since the skin of a person with dermographia is irritated by rubbing, every allergen will appear to cause a reaction. For individuals with dermographia, it is necessary to perform blood testing rather than skin tests to determine possible allergens. If the test indicates a specific allergy, the person with dermographia may receive allergy injections to help battle it. This does not, however, guarantee that the deromgraphia will subside, because the allergy is not necessarily the cause of the condition. Zyrtec, Benadryl and Presidone have each been used with a modicum of success for some, but some people fail to obtain a satisfactory result with any of the treatments.

STD?? urologist can't diagnose me? i might have contracted a STD because i noticed multiple skin rashes/sores that itch and sting on the back side on my shaft. i haven't really noticed any rises or bumps, but it is something that doesn't totally go away. the pain comes and goes and can look worse at times, but i always feel discomfort maybe irriation when i adjust or scratch my groin area through my pants. i had a few white discharges, so without being diagnosed i was given levaquin to kill any infection that might be there. i haven't had any discharges really since, but i do have urine drippage upon sitting down or bending over after urination. my penis tends to smell often even though i wash it all the time. i was tested negative for HIV and i believe they tested for syphillis at that time too although unsure. urologist can't tell if it is or isn't herpes, because the rashes/sores change very slightly in appearance from time to time, but does hurt worse at times. UTIS were ruled out and im gonna see a Dermatologist
misoma5 replied: "Herpes usually presents with blisters (vesicles) of clear fluid. They are usually painful. The discharge from the urethra is probably something else although you can have herpes in the urethra which sting alot when you urinate. Tests can be done to diagnose herpes and the treatment is acyclovir, famvir or similar antiviral. It will not cure the infection, but it will ease the symptoms."

Have reoccuring yeast following 49 days antibiotics for MRSA-not vaginally-not sexually active since 2004skin? This occurs inner corners of eyes, corners of mouth, skin on ankel or across breast or inner arm streak, way down throat, once in mouth and dentures. Was put on diflucin 5 days, special moth rinse every 6 hours, clean dentures and change water adding one drop clorix to soak all night. Back again and do not know what to do. Never had yeast infections before that 49 days of Levaquin, Macrodantin, Zyvoxx. What do I do next or who to consult with. Thanks
Neuron replied: "Antibiotics often kill the good bacteria in your gut that keeps yeast away. YOu need to go to a health food store and take some acidophillus pills to re-colonize your intestinal tract. Eating yoghurt with natural cultures helps as well."

Hidradenitis Suppurativa and MRSA? 3 yrs ago I came down with Hidradenitis and MRSA in my underarm and left chest wall that went into the blood stream . I was in the hospital 2wks and at home with a nurse because of the IV they put in my neck to receive the Vancomycin.Plus they had done 2 surgeries to save my arm that had packings every 12hrs Then I was on Zyvox and Levaquin for another month. They said I'm carrying the MRSA on my skin. I scrub with alcohol when I bath but I still have the MRSA pop up on my skin and my Hidradenitis always active. How long will these MRSA infections last before they stop or is it because I had septicemia and they're never going to stop?
emma_clites replied: "Wow - I really feel for you. How did you contract the MRSA? Were you working in health care at the time? I honestly am just guessing here, You would be best asking your wound care Doc. But , I'm wondering if Pycnogenol/OPC's taken internally and Colloidal Silver taken externally would help ?"
jayjay5844 replied: "MRSA will stay with you forever. Many people carry MRSA and never get an infection. It's a resistant staph. I'm sure you know that. I don't believe it does stay with you forever because I caught it and have had several surgeries, major, and never had an infection. I have been refused "optional" surgeries" if you call brain surgery "optional" because of it. I caught it 7 or 8 years ago and never had a reoccurance."
whineydog2002 replied: "Tisa, please research olive leaf extract, grapefruit seed extract, and most especially colloidal silver. These are very potent natural anti-virals/bacterials and can be taken for long periods without problems. The silver especially can be used topically and orally and is proven to kill over 650 types of viruses, bacteria, yeasts, and fungi. I get my silver from herbalhealer.com at 500ppm concentration which is the best for killing germs. I wish you good luck!"
Is my staph infection healing? Been on Levaquin for staph for 4 days now...
The skin is dry and peeling, some spots are sort of crusty and yellow...
It doesn't feel inflamed...
I put some moisturizer on it and its not really that red with it on...
Is it healing?
jivemee replied: "Be absolutely sure to follow up with your doctor. And call about whether or not you should be using a moisturizer on the area. Be careful with this, it can get bad."
JADE WIND replied: "You need to be patient. Complete the full 7 days of the Levaquin. You should not be putting moisturizer on it. It needs to get dry, and you DEFINITELY should not be touching it! It's staph, VERY contagious.
If you have even a small opening anywhere else on your skin, the staph would LOVE to move into it.
LEAVE IT ALONE....Wash your hands frequently. Wash anything like washclothes you have used on it in hot, hot water and if they are white, Clorox.
This is a wicked bacteria. You want to be totally rid of it!"
MRSA-Are the Family and I Doomed? So, I got stung by a wasp about two weeks ago while at Disney. It started getting better but one morning I woke up and it had swelled to the size of a tennis ball and was extremely painful. I went straight the doctor's because I thought I was having a weird allergic reaction. Anyway, they cut it open and drained it and removed a stinger that was still in there. We all thought the left-in stinger caused the infection but she did a swab of the gunk they drained and sent me home with two stitches in my back, Vicoden, Levaquin, and doxycycline. She called a few days ago and wants me to go in tomorrow morning. Apparently the swab came back as MRSA. She said there has been an outbreak of it in this area and that it's a bad bacteria. :-/ She said that the wasp sting breaking my skin allowed the bacteria to enter my body. At this point, I'm not in danger am I? How likely is it my kids (a young baby of 5 months and a 5 year old) could catch it? More details to come, please keep reading.
I've been on antibiotics since about three or four days after the wasp sting, so about ten days or so now. She called in MORE doxycycline and MORE Levaquin and told me I need to take both another ten days. Is that a little overkill or is it really necessary? I took naps with the baby while I had this thing on my back. I had my hubby change dressings on it and clean it with alcohol. I washed my laundry with everyone else's. I didn't know at the time it was or could even possibly be a contagious bacteria, I just thought it was caused by the stinger. :-(
How likely is it they'll suffer with this too? I think my heart will break if either of my children have to feel this sort of pain. How likely is it I'll have this reoccur?
Thank you for your answers. My doctor has me coming back in in five hours but I've been fretting over this nonstop and couldn't sleep. I'll be able to ask her but wanted some peace of mind before that! :-D I appreciate all your answers.
starrwoode replied: "it seldom is catching from one person to another. if your health is normal you should get over it and it should not spread but wash your hands before you feed your kids and maybe before you pick up the baby, just in case."
TECHX69 replied: "MRSA is nothing to mess with. Regarding your kids ,I think they'll be fine. Don't let them touch the affected area and wash your hands ALOT. MRSA is a very big deal here where I work(hospital). This can be a very stubborn infection that can require I.V. antibiotics( A PICC line...an IV line that goes form your IV site to the Superior Vena Cava). If they do this you'll get a chest x-ray to confirm the proper placement of the PICC line. Try going to WebMD.com for more info. Good luck!!
