My son has chronic pain & constipation at least once to 2 or 3 times a week--Any ideas on what it could be?? My son will be 3 years old in Julyand he has had this problem since he was about 15 months old..He has chronic stomach pain and constipation every time he has to poop..I've called his doctor(pediatrition) numerous times and talked with both nurses and his doctor..plus I've made several appointments to see his doctor and everytime they tell me it is his diet.
last night he was in so much pain he was screaming and turning red.. i have tried mylcon drops, motrin, a&d on his butt, diet changes(integrating more fruit and less grains), and 1 tbsp of mineral oil every couple of days..nothing seems to work and these are all suggestions from my doctor
my mom has had 5 kids and she said with us she never had this problem and my son is on the same diet my siblings and I were on.(she knows all of his problems because we currently live with her so she sees it all first hand)she too thinks there is something more to his problem. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? What do you suggest?
Ibuprofen or Motrin, for period? Would it be alright to take either a few days before my period? I'm not looking to lighten my period. But I usually get irritable cramps and constipation on the first two days of my period. So yeah basically, a few people told me to take the Motrin, but I don't know if the Ibuprofen could benefit me more?
Anyways Help? Any answer is appreciated : ).
Oops sorry I didn't know they were the same thing.

allie_gator_opps replied: "they are the same thing. One is just name brand."
Jesse replied: "same thing. Motrin is just a brand name of ibuprofen so is advil."
sandy replied: "Motrin is the Brand name for ibueprofin..its the same thing. i find that midol works a lot better for me anyway. but everyones different. you just gotta try different ones ( not at the same time) just to find the one that works best for you."
alwayz loved replied: "ibuprofen take 2 pills"
H replied: "Motrin and advil are just brand names for ibuprofen but they can help"
M3 is ALL i CAN b3 replied: "I think it will be okay to take it before your period if you are starting to cramp but if your not then taking medicine may not benefit you.. I am no doctor but I prefer Pamprin in the blue box i think its called maximum strength, it gets me through the day and I have very bad cramps.. I've tried Motrin and it doesn't work well with me but your body might respond to it differently to it and Ibuprofen is okay but Pamprin is still my fav.. Hope I helped.."

Off and on fever for 2 days, vomiting, constipation? Yesterday i woke up with my legs aching, then i started to shiver uncontrollably for 30-45 minutes, and then threw up. I felt weak afterwards but felt better. Later that day i started to get the chills and shiver again, but it passed.. I still felt feverish all day though. Then i woke up in the middle of the night shivering uncontrollably again until i threw up again. 30 minutes later i wasn't shivering anymore and felt a little better, and my temperature was measured at 100.3. At the time i didn't have any other symptoms, except the past few days my lower left back had pains but it felt like muscle pains. It was hard to walk though.
Then today i felt mostly ok, just exhausted and weak. Then late in the afternoon i start to get chills and shiver again. After taking 2 motrin, my fever was at 100.3 and i felt better. And today i have had a hard time with bowel movements, like i feel a little bloated and constipated. And when i have to urinate it feels like it burns and is urgent. But it isnt' that frequent. I also have cramps that feel like bloating on my lower left side, possibly because of the constipation.
My question is, do these sound like symptoms of anything? How long will the fever last before i should be concerned? I went to the ER the first night after i woke up shaking so hard, and they took urine and blood tests and didn't find a reason for my fever.

What over the counter drugs can't you take? My husband and I are trying to conceive our second child. What over the counter drugs effect ovulation? I know tylenol and motrin. And artificial sweeteners. But what about medicine to help with constipation? I'm currently taking miralax. Will this effect my chances of conceiving? Thank you so much!
Piscespets replied: "You wouldn't need to take anything for constipation if you ate enough fiber.
*Eat whole wheat bread instead of white.
*Eat enough fruits and vegetables.
*Lay off the cheese.
*Eat high fiber fortified breakfast cereal.
Try not to stress out so much over conceiving. Stressing out makes you less likely to succeed.
*Have your hubby wear boxers instead of briefs
*Relax
*Try not to make the sex just about conceiving."
constipation after surgery? I had surgery to remove my right ovary early Tuesday morning, i went to the ER Monday and pooped there when i had to give a pee sample. lol. now its Saturday, almost Sunday. It will be almost a week that i haven't went. I got prescribed motrin and vicodin post surgery but i havent been taking it that much the past couple days. just like once or twice a day maybe. what should i do?
Constipation due to Vicodin? Ugh! I had my wisdom teeth removed and was prescribed Vicodin and Motrin and now I'm constipated. :( I'm off the medicine now but I'm so tired of this! Is there a fast an easy way I can fix this without laxatives?
HealthyBellies replied: "Drink lots of water to flush everything out of your system. Vicodin does slow down the body in order to eliminate pain and inflammation, including slowing down the bowels. Drink lots of water and eat lots of fruit."
Miss Magellan replied: "Try drinking Milk of Magnesia.
It isn't a laxative, it's a natural stool softener so you won't be running for the bathroom."
Mary E replied: "Take magnesium, twice daily. I take the pill form, it is natural and very good for everything else also. You can get it in drug stores, or walmart really cheap. I take 500 mg daily.Yea, water drinking helps also. There is also a natural laxative, called vegetable laxative. It works also, but i prefer my magnesium, good for the heart, prevents stress, helps aches and pains, lots of reasons to take it, most ppl are deficient and don't even know it. take care hon, at least the dentist thing is over."
PaceD27 replied: "I know how that feels, and if I was you I would take about 4 Colaces. Colace is a stool softener that will help you. Since you have stopped taking the medicine your body will naturally start to be regular again in a few days usually. If the Colace doesn't help then try some Milk of Magnesia with the Colace and you'll be back in business. Magnesium will also help you but make sure not to take too much or you'll be in the bathroom all night long. But, if you stopped taking the medicine I would just wait a couple of days to 1 week and if you still are having trouble then try the Colace and or Milk of Magnesia."
While breastfeeding what meds can I take? Hello, I just had my 2nd baby last week c-section. I am currently taking percocet and motrin. I did not breastfeed my first so am dumb on this. Can someone please tell me what all meds they know that are safe to take while breastfeeding? Ones I really need to know: Constipation(stool softeners don't work) Colds, Flu, and anything else you think I may be facing. Thanks to all who answer, Jen
Nancy B replied: "Ask your OB or pediatrician. They're happy to take calls like this, you're not bothering them or anyting. Don't rely on the advise you'll get here for something like this."
Carolyn replied: "KellyMom is a great resource for looking up specific medications, and Dr.Hale, who is considered the leading expert in medications in maternal milk concerns has a message board that you can search for lots of medications.
Using medications while breastfeeding is not a black or white thing. Medications are rated L1-L5, L1 being the safest and L5 being the least safe. One has to weight the risk of using these medications with the health of the mother and the potential threat to the infant, as well as the risk of using formula instead of breastmilk (and yes, using formula does introduce many risks).
Personally, I feel comfortable taking most L3 drugs, especially for a limited period of time. I would also consider taking an L4 on a limited basis and only if I absolutely had to take it for my own health and safety.
As far as your basics, you can take Sudafed, Dimetapp, Advil, Tylenol, Benedryl, and many more-those I can just remember off the top of my head. One thing you should NOT take is Aspirin due to the risk of Reye's Syndrome in infants. I'm not sure about any laxatives, but if you look at the links I've provided, you'll be able to find the specific information you're looking for."
LETTE replied: "Please call your doctor, and/or nurse..they are the only ones qualified to answer your question...don't risk advice from people you don't know, that don't know you....You and your child are too precious for that!! The doc's invite you to ask...La Leche foundation can help you with breast feeding issues...God Bless You, Take good care and I hope you don't have Pain for too long!"
mrscjr replied: "I'll tell you what my experience was with nursing my 4 kids, but everyone's different and times have changed. (My oldest is 20 and my youngest is 12)
Constipation? Apples - raisins - plums - prunes - and I've discovered that Cranberry-Pomegranate juice gives me the runs, so that might help. Stay away from cheese, bananas and white bread. And drink as much water as you can.
My sister does something to clear her sinuses, I think it's called sinus irrigation - she said she plugs one nostril, tilts her head back, squirts saline solution into the open nostril, then lifts her head and lets the solution run out - same with the other side. She's had terrible sinus problems for years and swears by irrigation - another plus is that it doesn't put anything into your bloodstream.
And congratulations on the baby! Take pictures - LOTS of pictures. :o)"
Have been taking tylenol w/codeine for post op shoulder/back pain. thinks it's now causing constipation. what? else can I take over the counter to relieve this stabbing feeling? i'm getting desparate. motrin helps very little.
I have a very serious question, please someone that isnt going to be critical.? OK, Im not feeling very well, some might say "thats what you get" But I believe to each its own. I had a abortion today, very tough decision, but i know it was the right one. My stomatch is very gassy now and I feel pretty constipated, I know medication can make you constipated, but ive only had one motrin 800 today, and Ive been eating fruit and drinking water, so I shouldnt be feeling constipated, right? My cramps are getting worse. Should I be worried about the constipation, I can barely pass gas, and this is strange to me seeing how my bowels were completely fine for the past 2 weeks. Someone that would know something about this please answer, im not looking for the critics, please keep "dunnos" and other comments that have no help in the meaning. Im not trying to be mean, but its a serious question, and needs a serious answer. Thank You.
Common Sense replied: "Try some antacid or gas-x..
7-up may also help..."
piggybear replied: "Its probably from the medication they gave you to perform the abortion. Give it a a little time to wear off completely before you start to worry."
Pilgrim replied: "Get yourself into a doctor as soon as possible
Over half the people undergoing the abortion procedure do not survive."
joshuaandkrystal1127 replied: "not being mean but i believe it is you just not feeling to sure about the decision you just made and our just stressing yourself and its messing with our stomach but im sure your fine try and calm down and if it is still happening in a day or two go back to your doctor!!!!!"
cesquaq replied: "just relax miss. you had an invasive procedure today and that alone will give you intense recurring cramps while your body gets itself right again. meds can constipate you, but it usually happens over a couple of days. i know it feels all wrong but don't try to force a BM. you really don't want to be bearing down right now. try a SLOW stretch: lay on your back and gently bring your knees up to your chest (use your hands) try to pull them as close to your ears as possible and as gently as possible. that will help with the gas. be ready for the bleeding and you'll feel like crap for 2-3 days. all i ate was chicken noodle soup after. you'll be up and running in no time!
i haven't read any of the other comments yet but you haters are too judgemental and your god doesn't like it! go away!"
Cher666 replied: "could be normal, I don't know. I would go to ER, or at least call an emergency hotline... a medical one"
wetcat2009 replied: "Something must went wrong during the abortion. I would go an have it checked on quick."
madcatz1979 replied: "After mine I was feeling pretty rough. It is minor surgery so don't expect to feel 100% right away, but if it persits or gets worse then you should call the docotor and get everything checked out, just to be sure that everything went good with the procedure. I also hope that you have a good support person to talk to, even though you know you made the right choice it still helps to talk about it, I know it helped me alot. Take care."
lorraine b replied: "After reading your story,I hope you feel better tomorrow. If you don't go back to where ever you got this done and tell them your symptoms.Honey it's a possibility they missed something.Hurry and go get checked out. What ever your reason for doing this is in the past .Don't be afraid go see whats going on with you now.I hope you feel better. You are very brave to give this info to us .We do wish you well.We don't get to much put on us we cant handle . In my heart honey you we'll be fine.In between lines I know this is very serious.Don't feel down you are not the only one who has done this.We all know what you are going through.Go now get to the doctor."
talimax01 replied: "Firstly, no one has the right to judge you or your decisions.
So on that note, people should be sensitive with regards to their answers and not insensitive.
Secondly, the procedure you had today as you know would be a major one.
You will experience period like cramping for the next day or so, but if you feel that the cramps are getting worse, but more importantly if you feel that something is not right, then I would suggest that you call the practice back and explain the symptoms you are having.
With regards to the constipation - (not sure how many weeks into the pregnancy you were) this could be from the actual pregnancy and your body just needs to readjust itself into knowing that it is no longer pregnant.
Check the box, ring or even check the website for the anti-biotic manufacturer up to see whether constipation and/or gas is a side effect.
For the next couple of days or even weeks, your body will settle down with regards to hormones.
You just need to remember hon that even though your mind is aware of what happened today, your body isn't.
I hope I've helped you in some way."
