Does paxil AKA paroxetine make you feel more anxious in the beginig when u 1st start taking it? Im taking paroxetine and want to know if in the begining suppose to make you feel more anxious and then after settles down?
Dana replied: "According to the first site below, at least one person has had increased anxiety with it. According to the second site, paxil affects norepinephrine as well as serotonin. Since norepinephrine is the energetic-get-up-an-go neurotransmitter, doesn't seem too crazy that it might have that affect on you. People have been known to have increased anxiety at first with Wellbutrin as well, which also affects norepinephrine, and it's supposed to subside after awhile.
If you really think you're having more anxiety and don't think you can deal with it, try getting your doctor to switch you to something like lexapro or prozac that shouldn't have that effect so much.
I think that with any psychiatric medication, if you think you're having the side-effect, you probably are. We're all human, but we do have different brains, and so every thing can effect everyone differently.
Hope this helps!"
How long does dizziness last when off of Paroxetine? I've been taking 10MG of Paroxetine (generic of paxil) for a few months and I'm done w/ it. I don't like the way I feel on it. How long does this dizziness last though? It's horrible! :( Thank you!
lilylee replied: "i feel bad for you!

How much of time does the withdrawal symptoms of Paroxetine may last? I took the drug paroxetine for 2 weeks!!My doctor prescribed it to me coz i had very mild sort of depression...n now Im suffering from the withdrawal symptoms of the drug which had been continued from the time I stopped taking the drug those r the most common ones jst lyk nausea,Sleepiness,dizziness.ect.
I want to know that how much of time would these withdrawal symptoms may last?n do I have to meet a doctor or may them get cured automatically??
Diana G replied: "Call your doctor. You should only start and stop meds with his approval and guidance. He may suggest you start to take them and wean off slowly but honestly you shouldn't be having severe issues after taking them 2 weeks. They may actually be caused by something else."
Proud American replied: "you should never abruptly stop taking any medication. Call your doctor and let him know you want to ween off of it and he/she will advise you how to best to this to minimize the side effects of the withdrwal.
Why didn't you give the medication some time before stopping it. Most antidepressants can take 3-4 weeks before you see the full effect.
Stopping medications like this can cause an array of issues such as seizures etc. Not a good idea,"
oh really replied: "It stops eventually. Maybe a week or two. It does go away. Unless you are fainting or having convulsions, I wouldn't go back to the doctor for those mild dizzy spells of paxil withdrawal."
Why can Paroxetine antidepressants cause an increase in suicidal thoughts for teenagers? I thought antidepressants were supposed to cure depression? So I was surprised when researching Paroxetine to find the possible side effect of the increase of suicidal thoughts in patients under the age of 24. What causes this?
shaneris5 replied: "As far as I know, the reasons are unclear, but it seems to apply to all the SSRI's & SSNRI's, including Paroxetine. Some people in the mental health field believe that, although a severely depressed person may feel suicidal, they have neither the energy, nor the planning ability to organise such an attempt.
There may be a "window of opportunity", in the first couple of weeks, following antidepressant use, when the antidepressant effect has not yet begun to reach effective levels, but energy levels, and planning abilities are beginning to be restored, and it is in this time frame, particularly with young people, when the likelihood of a suicide attempt is at its highest.
Their impulsivity, and inability/unwillingness regarding consequences, and lack of experience base all add to this. It has been recently son that the brain does not reach full development until around 24 -25, with most people."
-R- replied: "The problem is, they don't know why. Drug companies, especially Paxil, have been trying to cover this up for a long time, but finally the government made them put that warning on there. Statistic wise, it's still rare, but because it can happen, I think it's important a person starting an SSRI medication, especially Paxil, should be watched by friends, family, and carefully monitored by their doctor. Same thing when increasing or decreasing the dose. You have to watch for new signs / forms of depression besides any increases in existing ones.

Can paroxetine increase the amount of ejaculated sperm? Since I started taking 20mg of paroxetine per day, I saw that the amount of ejaculated sperm increased. Is it normal? Can paroxetine do it?
Sarah K replied: "Are you looking at sperm-count or just volume of ejaculate? Sperm actually accounts for a small percentage of ejaculate and semen (from the prostate) accounts for most. I haven't read anything on increased sperm count or ejaculate from Paxil, but it has been used to treat premature ejaculation in some men."
Can Paroxetine increase the creatinine level ? One of my friend is on Paroxetine 30 mg daily. He got his blood examined for creatinine as per his doctor advise. The creatinine level is 2.6 /ml, What should be done as abrrupt withdrawal of paroxetine is not advisable. Study the Truth replied: "call the MD."
Why is propanolol prescribed along with paroxetine for depression /dysthymia? Paroxetine is generally prescribed for mild depression but then why is propanolol (beta blocker)given along with it.Sholud it be prescribed even if patient has no palpitation?
mcdannells replied: "Hello,
What you do is ask your doctor if these drugs are going to cure you, when he/she says no then do not worry about the drugs just don't take them.
Good luck, listen to yourself, if you have doubts there is a reason for your doubts. We have to learn to take our mental health care back from these drug pushers."
Riot replied: "propanolol can actually cause depression in some patients...it is used for anxiety, not depression...its used physically for heart palpitations and high blood pressure but ive never heard it used for depression unless u have anxiety and the physical symptoms of anxiety, ie heart palpitations, jitters, trembling, etc...but it wont stop an anxious mind, just calms an anxious body"
Is it normal to feel a bit of anxiety while taking paroxetine? I feel a bit dizzy which I know is normal but what about the anxiety is it normal or maybe I'm just thinking it's anxiety because I do feel feel a bit odd like numb. Any advice or ideas?
Me replied: "Ask your psychiatrist. Paxil (paroxetine) can cause all sorts of things. If you're starting to become emotionally numb on it, you might want to be switched to something else."
Marguerite replied: "One of Paroxetine's effects is to counteract anxiety.
I don't know how long you have been on it. If you've just begun, then it could be existing anxiety and you need time for the med to work.
If you've been on it for awhile, then you must call your doc and tell him/her what symptoms you are having.
Sometimes, medication does the exact opposite of what it's supposed to do. It's a called a paradoxical effect.
So if youv'e just started it, hang in there for a little longer and see if the anxiety disappears. If you've been on it for awhile, get right on top of it and call your doc.
There's no reason to feel unsure or suffer needlessly. In fact, call your doc anyway for reassurance one way or the other. He/she should be kept in the loop and will then know what to advise you to do."
Dr.Satheesh replied: "paroxetine is prescribed for anxiety, depression or obsessive compulsiveness ( OCD ) . All these three diseases are interrelated..one occur along with the other..
For example a depressive person may be anxious too..or may have OCD.
If you have given paroxetine for depression, you may have anxiety too..but that is not caused by paroxetine..but by your disease itself..
If you have anxiety ...it mean that paroxetine can not cure your anxiety... you need to shift to other drugs like sertraline or citalopam."
How long does Paroxetine stay in your body system for? I have stopped taking this drug now and was taking it for around 2 1/2 months. thanks.
Ralph RN replied: "You should never stop this kind of medication abruptly without first consulting your physician. This could lead to some serious issues."
iamaustralian replied: "I hope you came of this gradually!
Paroxatine must be reduced slowly or you will find your depression could return worse than before.
Always see your doctor before reducing this drug.
I have been taking Paroxatine for 7 years. (AROPAX)"
echelon replied: "Paroxetine has one of the worst discontinuation experiences of any antidepressant - it's notorious for the bad withdrawal symptoms.
You should really withdraw gradually over a period of about a month, but you can do it in 2 weeks if you're determined.
Halve your tablets for a week, then take half every other day for a week, then take half every three days for a week......after that try stopping. If you're still suffering, ask your doctor for some liquid Paroxetine and measure out tiny doses with a syringe.
If you're just stopped abruptly then you could feel ill for a couple of weeks.
It's a really sucky drug!"
