How long can I take prednisolone tablets before it effects me in a bad way? I have emphysema and I find that when I take prednisolone tablets my breathing becomes a little easier and I feel and eat better (my appetite is poor). I don't know why this happens, but my doctor says that its not a good idea to continue to take them. How many mg can I safely take and for how long until it starts to damage me.

Cheers

cwgrrl7 replied: "You should also be taking antibiotics to combat the infection. I think that you should also be on nebulizer medications to help open the smaller passages of the lungs. If you're not better by Monday, I recommend that you either call the doctor with whom you're seeing now or consult a different doctor. If the medications you're taking aren't working, you may need to be admitted to a hospital for intravenous antibiotics and steroids. I hope I've helped-good luck and I hope that you feel better soon!"

Cronic coughing (during cold) leading to severe breathing difficulties.? During the end of a cold I have just had a bout of really deep coughing. The coughing was so deep and rapid sucession that breathing was almost impossible. The drawing of breath required so much effort. I suppose the incident lasted a minute or so, but felt much longer. Then when the coughing stopped it took at least 10 minutes to get breathing back to anywhere normal. This also happened in January this year, again towards the end of a cold, when I had 2 or 3 such incidences on the same night. This last time I went to the hospital. As I now live in Thailand communication is a bit difficult. I was put on a saline (sodium chloride) drip and given various pills and a Seretide Accuhaler. I spent the rest of the night (having arrived at 3am) and the following night in hospital. When I left this morning, I was given the following drugs to take: Seretide accuhaler, Enalapril(Envas), Actifed tablets,Rulid(Roxithroxyl) and Prednisolone. Question is, what is wrong with me,any 1st aid advice? Chest X-ray showed no problems

hop0409 replied: "do you have your tonsils? if not, it could be that whenever you catch a cold, it's causing bronchitis. prednisone is usually given for cases of asthma, which is also the reason for an inhaler."

Prednisolone medication for a baby? My 13 month old was prescribed this due to a croopy cough, runny nose and mouth breathing. It seemed to make him dizzy of weak in teh legs. 3 hours after i gave it too him he was falling down and just didnt seem normal. My mother said its because he was exhausted from lack of sleep and the cold itself. what do you think????

btbasm replied: "Prednisolone is a fairly strong steroid (not anabolic). It is used in babies with a croopy cough. One of the side effects can be muscle weakness and/or cramping. Normally, this medication is only used for a short amount of time. However, if those symptoms persist I would talk to the doctor right away. I have personally taken mega-does of the stuff for eczema. Everytime I take it, I do seem to have some unwanted side-effect. So, the trick is use when you need to, but not a second longer. One other note: That medicine has to be decreased slowly when coming off of it. It throws the body out of whack a bit, and suddenly stopping it without a doctor watching can lead to other problems. So, alway consult your doctor about this drug."

I need more antibiotics, for what; Bronchitis, Pnuemonia? I have taken 2 z packs(azithromyacin), Ciftin 500mg x2bid, over a month Then I was hospitalized cause I wasnt breathing so well from all the inflamation and mucus. IV Antibiotics Rocepherin and Zithromax and countless steriods ;solumedrol, medrol packs, prednisolone, Breathing treatments Albuterol And now Im taking Flovent 220mcg. Is there and end in sight? And what is their diagnosis? At this point what would you do?

brian mirte l replied: "Unless they proved it was an infection, antibiotics also kill your good bacteria in your intestines which keep your resistance up from absorbed vitamines, are you eating anything with a lot of acid? That will make more mucus, milk, lemon, vit.c, also make a lot of mucus. Non acidic vitamin c- or Ester c is better, also because acidic bodies have lower resistance to sickness as recently found. Alkaline is better. Your pH should be 6.5 or higher. Is it asthma? Are you weezing at all? Tell them to do diagnostic testing to find out exactly what you have.... If it is pneumonia or so you do need antibiotics.... eat lots of yogurt to put the good bacteria back in your system... with less sugar preferably .... Hope you get better soon... PS. garlic is a proven powerful antibacterial, antiviral if eaten raw and crushed.... cooked is powerless They also come in tablets... Drink lots of water ... take care"

When asthma tablets should be prescribed? My daughter who is asthmatic was prescribed Prednisolone and antibiotics to get rid of coughing and low breathing, this is because at hospital her oxigen levels were between 93 and 94. I do no think she needs the prednisolone, isn't it? usually she takes it when asthma is noisy and much wheezing. I am sure antibiotics is just what she needs. Please give me your opinion . Thanks

am i going to ever get over eosinophilic pneumonia? it seems like im getting better very very slowly, and ive been told it will take a while, ive had this for 6-8 months and im so sick of it, so debilitating...wondering if anyone out there knows how long this lasts for?? and is there anything i can do to speed up the process, anything....im on 25mg of prednisolone daily, and that is the only thing keeping me breathing properly i guess...

cwgrrl7 replied: "It may take a couple more months of the treatment that you are taking, you have to rest and drink plenty of noncarbonated fluids and continue your medications exactly as the doctor has prescribed them. It's very difficult to estimate how long your recovery may take, you have to remember to take very good care of yourself and do exactly as the doctor has said. I hope you begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel soon-don't give up!!"
