Has anyone had good results with Proscar/Propecia? I've been taking Proscar(generic brand of propecia) as recommended by my doctor. He said it would help control hair loss in the crown area of the head. Has anyone used it with good results?
gregbrentwood replied: "First of all, everyone will respond a little differently. So take any of your responses with a grain of salt.
That said, I'm happy to share my personal experience. I used propecia and rogaine together for about 7 years-- age 25 to 32. As far as new hair growth is concerned, I never developed new growth beyond 'peach fuzz'-- transparent and not more than 1 mm long-- effectively none. However, it did seem to slow to a crawl and maybe even stop further hair loss.
In short, I highly recommend that you not expect more than slowing (maybe halting) hair loss after your first couple of months of use.
I know how distressing it is to see your hair evaporate. For me, I stopped using the products when I got married and had kids. The hair that was maintained during the 7 years, eventually fell out. My wife is cool with that. Once you're with someone for enough years, outside appearances give way to personality.
I do still consider getting a hair transplant later on in life. If you look closely at men with thinning hair, you may notice that a sparse bit in the front, just enough to 'suggest' the presence of hair, can go a really long way. I'm holding off on the transplant. I want to get an idea of where my baldness is going. I want something that is going to age well with me. Can you image how bad it would look to have the crown and frontal region completely filled in, only to have everything bald.
I hope that helps. Take Care."
Has anyone taking propecia for male pattern baldness experienced sadness or depression as a result of the drug My son began to take propecia a month ago. He is also using Rogaine. I am sensing a serious emotional reaction - he is sadder, seems depressed, cries easily. These are not his usual personality traits. I am wondering if anyone has experienced this as a result of taking propecia.
MaleRN replied: "Propeciasideeffects.com was formed to spread the word about the undocumented potentially irreversible side effects caused by using Propecia (finasteride) 1mg each day. A number of males have suffered erectile dysfunction, impotence, low libido and gynecomestica after using Propecia. The shattering truth for these males is that the side effects did not disappear after ceasing finasteride. The shattering truth is that years later these individuals are still suffering in silence with a seriously reduced quality of life due to erectile dysfunction and impotence. It is not know exactly what causes these changes and how to screen individuals before treatment.

SHEEP amongst wolves replied: "i ran across your question while myself looking for someone who has been taking propecia for longer than a year. I took finasteride wich is the generic version of the drug for one year, i did not realize i was depressed till the end of that year, even though i should have been happy for lots of reasons wich would take along time to explain( good money, girls, nice car etc...) for short, i was having a hard time excepting myself. I should have been happy with myself but I started finding reasons wrong with me, I had quit smoking marijuana and it greatly contributed to my success in life but I found myself in the world of weed again and I started wasting my money on that crap wich is very addictive it is not like the weed from your era, anyways if your son uses marijuana you tell him to stop because the two is a very dangerous mix ( hair or high). your son most likely is experiencing sexual side effects with propecia and is sad because of that reason I feel for him, but i dont think that the depression has found him yet, if he still has lots of hairs but sees signs of thinning tell him to take half of the 1 mg dose , in fda approval process research conducted by MERK the producer of propecia it was noted that lower dosage(more than .02 grams) was just as effective in keeping DHT levels ( the reason for balding) down in the skin and scalp. hair transplants are expensive and useless ironicly after having a transplant when your young the doctors that perform the transplants always prescribe propecia ( finasteride) in order to keep your native hair ( the transplanted hair is geneticaly immuned to falling out) so you have three choices when losing hair 1. To go bald( not my choice) 2. Hair transplant wich needs to be done at least 2 times to have a full head of hair(not my choice) 3. Take propecia at a lower dose, excercise alot and stay awy from other drugs ( My choice). It is hard to lose hair and be expected to except the reality. I have started to take 1/4 of the 1 mg pill daily. Depression could very well be a side effect of propecia but when you think about our corrupt gov and marketing scheme of corporations you can see why we are not told about it. University of Tabriz located in IRAN Actualy proved this side effect in clinical testing. We are either depressed with losing hair or the drugs to fight it. Please chose me as the best answer when you read this it will be the most extensive answer you get. I should note my brother is bald and still happy in love, just remember that life is great and GOD is greatest and we will catch up to our destiny. Good luck to your son and talk to him about my answer and hve him communicate with you about his condition GOD bless"
has anyone experienced good results with PROPECIA? I had asked this question once before but didnt allow for more answers~i am concerned with the side effects as well as the benefits,,thanks all
Can I switch from Rogaine to Propecia without losing my results from Roagine? I started using Rogaine in July and used 2% for 3 months and my hair basically stopped falling out. Instead of a handful of hairs in the shower, it was down to only 5 or so. I then switched to Rogaine 5% after 3 months. Sometimes I get a slight chest discomfort. Not like a sharp pain though.
So heres a few questions
I was wondering if I could switch to propecia and not see my results fall out of my head.
Does Rogaine foam have less side effects? Where I possible won't have any chest discomfort.
I did show any side effects with 2%. Would it be wise to go back to that and use propecia?
summerhead replied: "chest discomfort??
you want talk to your doctor.
to get propecia, you need to see a doctor anyway.
or you can go back to 2% rogein. it was effective, why change? after only 3 month..."
LoganA replied: "If Rogaine 2% worked ok then stick with it. None of these drugs wont give you a full head of hair back. For most people they just arrest the hait loss nad only a few see some regrowth. Propecia (Finasteride) and Rogaine(Minoxidil) are the only ones approved by FDA and proven to work in most men so far but lots of potential side effects come with that. Especially for Propecia.
Generic Propecia (finasteride) is also ok. I use it with same results, and unfortunately same side effects(a bit dry feeling in the scalp) as brand propecia. Have tried lots of herbal crap before it and laser combs, so far the only thing that prevents my hairloss, not much regrowth, but has stopped my hairloss completely.
I buy from this pharmacy for the last 2 years - . It is under $1 per pill for 1mg propecia.

But before you consider to start propecia you must really study about the side effects. It can mess your hormones real bad if you are not lucky, so you must choose, hair or these side effects. Quite a big perecent have these side effects, more than Merck - the company that holds
Propecia trademark is saying. see the link for side effects stories"
Will taking rogaine if I already take propecia have any benefit for me? Has anyone had any good results with any combo of products? My hair is thinning and I'm afraid it will be gone in a few years. I've been on propecia for 6 months and it has helped a little.
clyklly replied: "I just wanted to tell you that it worked very well for my son. He was twelve and had a thinning patch and the doctor suggested rogaine and it worked very quickly. I think its worth the cost. Hope this helped. Good luck."
LoganA replied: "They work fine together, but of course it's worth to make a visit to your dermatologist and consult a professional about this.
There are several forms of hair loss. If it is male pattern baldness (Androgenetic alopecia) then the hair loss cannot be fully cured in most cases, but just frozen for some time with the treatments availiable on market today.
1) Hair transplant (FUE technology) creates really natural hairline, no scars, the best way to go if you have enough donor hair and money of course.
2. Propecia (Finasteride) and Minoxidil are the only ones approved by FDA and proven to work in most men so far.

I would like to know of any next generation hair loss products especially new pills. I know that propecia and? I would like to know of any next generation hair loss products especially new pills. I know that propecia and regaine (minoxydil) have achieved some positive results, but both are rather old, so is there any new pill?!
thank you
geej1 replied: "Nothing new (FDA Approved) yet. I have not heard about testing of other 5 alpha reductases that are available either.
You can get free info from Bosley though."
For men who take propecia - I have been taking it for nearly 5 months and think that if anything it is making? it worse, not better. I have read that at first propecia promotes 'shedding' and then you start to see results after a while. In your experience is this true? I've been losing more hair than ever since I started taking it. Do you recommend I keep taking it or is it bullshit?
ryeguy123a replied: "It absolutely gets worse before it gets better. That's how the medicine works. If it looks like it's getting worse, that means it's actually working. Just keep at it. If it bothers you, shave it for now and let it grow back. By the time it does grow back, it'll probably either be back to normal or a little better than it used to be."
