Richard L replied: "Most drug manufacturers have web information on their products. Alternative medicine is a category where people discuss products that are not pharmaceutically produced drugs, but rather traditionally used plants and animals parts or foods. In the US where I live, the dispensing pharmacist has drug information available to all customers for the drugs that they sell them. Perhaps you could find out this answer from your pharmacist if that is the same where you live. If not, ask your doctor or the source where you obtain the drug. Expert answers on pharmaceuticals are best found with those who work in that field. While I might not like side effects of drugs, my thoughts about those products are not expert. You may also choose another category on this yahoo forum for your question."

Kate from Drugs.com replied: "Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic in a group of drugs called fluoroquinolones. It is used to treat different types of bacterial infections. It is very unlikely that you would need ciprofloxacin long term. Doctors usually only prescribe a short term course; enough to treat the infection and if the infection is not treated with a short course or even with a repeat course then an alternative antibiotic should be given. Perhaps a culture can be done to see what antibiotic is sensitve, for the bacteria causing the infection. If you don't have an infection then please don't use it, you'll be fine. Overuse of antibiotics may cause bacterial resistance to the drug. For other side effects please see the source link below."

If you have taken Ciprofloxacin before, what type of side effects did you have? It has a lot of BAD side effects that i'm reading about on the internet... but how many of these are actually likely?

kathleen620 replied: "Most common side effects are nausea (which is what I had when on cipro). There are bad side effects to all medications, but its all a matter of perspective."

what r some possible side effects of canine ciprofloxacin? ? what r some possible side effects of canine ciprofloxacin? I am administering it to my 7 yr old golden as per my vets prescription 2 tabs 2x daily @250mg per tab

richardbrendawalsh replied: "I have used it for years without problems. Dr W"

Jimmy D replied: "What is he taking it for?"

MY NEWF IS SMARTER THAN YOU replied: "My 6 year old Newf has been on it for 3 weeks, and is looking at 3-4 more weeks. No side effects."

alias boxer replied: "Side effects could include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, weakness and even sore muscles. Most commonly seen is lethargy; the others are rare. Another concern would be WHY exactly the vet has prescribed this. If your dog does in fact have a definite bacterial infection then the medication will help, but if no specific bacteria has been noted, then it could be harmful. Some vets, just like some human doctors, will prescribe antibiotics at the drop of a hat, "just in case" your dog might have some treatable infection. Overuse of antibiotics can be harmful to the immune system, so you don't want to ever use them unless you have to. "

ciprofloxacin side effects? can I take it with food

Question about Ciprofloxacin and its side effects? Hello! I have been prescribed to take Ciprofloxacin 500 MG twice daily to treat my UTI. Today is my 5-th day taking this medicine, however I still feel pain and burning feeling when urinating. But what concerns me more, I started to sweat a loooooot (especially last night) Also skin on my hands looks like it was burned under the sun. I read those can be Cipro side effects. Is that true? Should I continue taking Cipro for couple more days and finish the course, since it's directed for 5-7 day period. Any help would be appreciated!

ciprofloxacin long term side effects or short term? took cipro for UTI cleared up after a week but took another week for the urge to pee to go away. My bowel movements are still messed up; diarreha, cramping, green stool etc. im taking probiotics now and multivitamins occasionally cranberry pills as well. When will my bowel movements be normal again i don't know what else to do? please someone help me out? any suggestions are appreciated greatly! Will i ever be back to normal? it's been over 2 months since i quit taking the Cipro

christine_ replied: "EEEK- Don't take it. I was taking an antibiotic (Avelox) in the same family. I had those symptoms PLUS after a few days it gave me massive panic attacks. It was horrible. Call your doctor and request a gentler antibiotic...even if you have no panic attack side effects you sound like you're getting seriously dehydrated."

curious replied: "I took Cipro for UTI for 4 days, I was supposed to take it for a week, but I started getting extremely tired and could hardly walk. After I dropped it I got back to normal in about 8-10 days."

Peale replied: "Stop taking it immediately! There are other antibiotics that can help with your UTI. Cipro, and other antibiotics in the same family (known as fluoroquinolones) are supposed to be "last ditch, he's going to die if we don't get this infection under control", but unfortunately doctors prescribe them like they're candy. I also took Cipro for a UTI. I was having anxiety attacks, trouble breathing, massive depression. Then I started doing research and learned for myself the short - and long - term side effects. Don't be surprised after a couple months after taking these pills you start developing joint pain, muscle aches and a host of other problems. A month after my last pill all my muscles and joints ached quite badly. They still do, and from what I read, I've got another few years of this to look forward to (though it does get better over time). Check out the sites I referenced. There's a lot of information available."

side effect or more of Ciprofloxacin HCL? Two days ago I went to urgent care after having a bladder infection for 2 weeks that quickly turned into a kidney infection. I had a fever of 103, chills, nausea, the whole nine yards...everything but a headache. Normally I get UTI's every 3 months on average so when I was prescribed Cipro it was nothing new, and every time before I've never had any side effects. This is day two of taking Ciprofloxacin HCL 500 this time around and I've never had a worse headache in my life I think. The back of my neck is really stiff and sore, the pain is very sharp at my temples, and it generally just feels like my brain is trying to push its way out of my skull through my forehead. I get dizzy/disoriented also at random times. I've been drinking tons of water, eating just fine, all symptoms of my kidney infection are gone, its just this headache and I have 8 more days of meds to take. I'd call the Dr. to ask but I hate being that whiny hypochondriac and I'm just looking for some opinions I guess. Oh, extra strength Tylenol (2 pills) does nothing for this. Thanks if you can help.

How long can skin remain sensitive to sunlight after a course of Ciprofloxacin? I have recently taken a months course of Ciprofloxacin and have heard it cause your skin to be sensitive to sun exposure. I have heard this can last up to 7 months!!!!! I am going on holiday in 4 weeks and would like to know if the side effects are anything i should be concerned about. I do intend on sunbathing. Thanks

Trinidy replied: "This medicine may make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Use a sunscreen when you are outdoors. Avoid sunlamps and tanning beds. +(Injection)+(Injectable)+&cid=HTDRUG You can go tanning just apply a thin layer of sunscreen, and it only makes SOME poeple sensitive to the sun, not all."
