Soma Sf in Questions
How do u get a job in a startup in SF/SoMa? I just graduated from my bachelor degree in business in Canada... (so not a tech background) and I wanna work in startups for sure. The work experience I have so far is in marketing, and definitely, doing marketing / biz-dev for startups in the SF area would be ideal. How should I go about it? How do I find these kinds of jobs? I've been able to search online for startup jobs but they're mostly "VP" or "Director" or "Manager" or tech jobs, which I can't apply for. How do I locate jobs that suit me (I suppose it means entry-level or basically just not managerial level) . I'd appreciate any advice, thank you in advance :)

how far is the soma district in sf from the castro district? anyone know

Is 50,000 enough to live comfortably in the marina or SOMA district? I'll be moving to SF to start my career and I want to live in one of the younger districts with a good nightlife. I'd like to know what to expect to pay for rent and whether or not 50,000 a year would be enough to live somewhat comfortably in those areas?

tonalc2 replied: "If you can deal with the fact that half your income will be going to rent, sure, you could live on that."

? replied: "You can live comfortable on 50,000 A year especially if you get ried of your car. My daughter lives in San Francisco. She found out that having a car in San Francisco was waste of money. By not having a car she saved $800 a month that's almost 10 Grand a year. San Francisco has the best transportation system of any city in United States. When she goes out of town she rents car. You can rent a lot of cars on 1O grand."

boohoo_Jebus replied: "A crummy little studio will / would cost you over $1,200 a month, if you can find one. Comfortably? I doubt it."

I8AShroom replied: "All depends on how you live your life. If you're a very frugal person then maybe but otherwise, no, it isn't my idea of "comfortable". You certainly won't be able to buy a home or condo with that income. BTW, there really isn't much nightlife in the Marina. SOMA would be a better fit for nightlife."

sftraveler replied: "things may be a little tight. marina/soma are somewhat pricey. you could get an ok studio for maybe $1400+ look on craiglist.org for prices. if you want a one bedroom i would figure 1800ish in marina, $2200 in soma. these will probably be nice, but not amazing. if you have a car you will need to factor in a parking space which is a couple hundred a month as well."

Inundated in SF replied: "If that $50,000 is before taxes (gross income), then it'll only be $30,000 after taxes--and it's going to be tight. You can live with roommates which will bring your monthly rent down and you'll probably be able to live in a nicer area even though you'll be sharing. If it's $50,000 net, then you should be able to live fairly comfy (moreso if you have a roommate or two)."

In SF, which is the best district for funky art galleries w/artist events (other than Union Square)? I've been reading about Haye's Valley and SOMA - they sound interesting. We will be spending the night and on foot and are looking for someplace new to explore that might have a good artist community with some fun goings on, good places to eat and drink, day into evening. Thanks!
