Stomach Pain Effexor Xr Facts in Questions
What brand of pain reliever causes an increased risk in stomach bleeding for those taking effexor xr? I know some pain relievers have the risk of stomach bleeding after prolonged use in all individuals. I'm interested in finding out which brand is particularly more dangerous for those taking effexor xr.

Ray replied: "Ibuprofen, it is one of the worst. It also will increase the risk of ulsers if taken for a prolonged period of time."

preacher7003 replied: "aspirin, hydrocodone. are a couple to be carefull with. use a time release aspirin or coated pills to delay breakdown of the drug and u can use it with effexor xr safely. god bless"

Effexor XR Stomach Problems? I just started taking effexor xr 37.5mg this morning but didnt have time to get anything to eat so I jusy took the pill and drank a bottle of water. 3 hours later I have stomach pain is this because I didnt eat anything with it?

Quit taking Effexor??? My doctor took me off Effexor XR 75 mg on Thursday and put me on Equetro. Since then I've been having stomach pains, dizziness, headache, muscle spasms, etc. I went to the ER and they said it was from coming off the Effexor. Has anyone else done this??? How long does these withdrawals last. Is there anything I can do to relieve these symptoms or speed up the withdrawal process? I can't even drive, go to work, the store, etc. Any advice would be great. Thanks. I was in complete mania on Thursday. My family dr who has had me on Effexor for 3 yrs sent me to a psychiatrist who told me to stop taking the Effexor immediately because it was making me worse and put me on the new meds. Friday I went to the ER for the reactions I was having and they stated that my vitals were fine and that it was just the withdrawals from the Effexor.

SUSAN K replied: "try eating healthy and take vitamins, get plenty of sleep also take omega 3 it is good for the brain , also a natural antidepressant read the success stories on and alternativementalhealth.com - some very good testimonials take care"

acookwriter replied: "Disclaimer: Do not take this as a professional advice, only as reference. Do you have your own doctor? Or psychologist who prescribe your meds? Also usually yes, you are suppose to wean off your meds, Effexor, but in this case if it effects your daily life or makes you sick, head to your local ER again. Ask your doctor about relieving your symptoms from the meds. (Because each symptoms varies and other meds can conflict with your current meds) The withdrawal should not last more then a month."

mistress d replied: "oh boy, i know what you are going thru. i went from effexor 150 down to 75 and after a month i was a mess. i work as a contractor and accidentally shocked myself on an outlet, and it felt better than the nerve zaps i was getting from lowering the dose. then i ran out of them for a week once, people splashed holy water on me and held up crosses lol(just joking, but it was bad) they should have cut you down to 50 for eight weeks before taking you off and switching to another. talk to him again and tell him what is going on. the effects of getting off meds can last for a month or two. good luck dear"

there is a happily ever after replied: "I went through withdrawl of effexor! When I found out I was pregnant Dec 2006. I had to wean off of it. I told my doc that I was more comfortable just opening the capsules and removing like 4-9 beads at a time. I would take out so many for so long and then up it. It took a few months but I made it. I had the "zaps", I had some other symptoms but this is what disturbed me most. They continued and lessened as time went on. By the time I had my baby it was completly off them. Good Luck."

A question about anti depressants, please help? I am 22 and I am pretty regular regarding my period. I get it at the same time each month and now it's a week late. I've been taking Effexor XR and Remeron and was wondering if it can affect my period ? It hasn't been over a week late in years. And there is no way that I am pregnant. And the Effexor XR and Remeron is giving me horrible stomach pains but still no period. Is this normal ?

JIM O replied: "anti depressants don't work"

Kayla N replied: "http://chealth.canoe.ca/drug_info_details.asp?channel_id=0&relation_id=0&brand_name_id=1504&page_no=2#AdverseEffects this website says that the remeron will ause menstral difficulties and that if they happen to consult your doctor. as your doctor and see what he says. doesnt hurt to ask:) God Bless:)"

Those that have sleep anxiety problems please help? I have been on Effexor xr for my anxiety problems due to lack of sleep. Im not depressed, but I do get stressed out, I usually only get 3 hours of sleep a day. I work 11pm to 7am for the past 2 years, and I still cant get used to it. Effexor helps much, but it makes my bones really achy.Ive described this to my doctor, but he got upset with me. I had been on it for 6 months before I realized that what I was taking made me ache. When I was off of them for a few weeks, the pain had gone away.He says its supposed to help my back not hurt it.He then gave me Vistril, which made my stomach very sick.HE changed me back to Effexor xr, but the pain has come back.I have another appointment with him in 2 weeks. I dont want to make him mad. I just want something that will help me sleep. How can I go about asking him to try my on ativan or something of that nature that I know will help me sleep.

Sleep anxiety problems, need a solution, please help? I have been on Effexor xr for my anxiety problems due to lack of sleep. Ive tried several herbal or natural supplements to no avail. Melatonin doesnt work, then when I do fall asleep, I have nightmares.

vroom replied: "First of all, that is weird that your doctor would be mad at you. It's your choice whether or not you want to be medicated and you know your own body. But you can try melatonin. It's just a dietary supplement you can buy at any grocery/drug store. I used to use it when i had sleeping problems."

Tim replied: "He was probably upset because coming off medication like Effexor must be done by tapering. Coming off it too soon can lead to serious withdrawal effects which I have been through myself--they suck. It is a little strange that it made you ache because usually antidepressants will null pain. Since you work night shifts, you have to sleep during the day, which means you're probably getting alot of light in your room. Try changing your room around so that its completely dark. Get ear plugs for noise, and when you're in bed try to focus on your breathing. Start with deep and steady breaths. I have sleeping problems as well, but I usually smoke weed right before I go to bed and I have little problems. Its illegal almost any where so I wouldnt recommend it. There's a bunch of other medications you could talk to your doctor about."

IS Alieve the same thing as Advil am I allowed to take it with Effexor XR?

Ulcerative Colitis - Please help!? I have suffered from Ulcerative Colitis for 10 years and am at the end of my rope. I have tried every treatment possible except Remicade. At this time, my doctor does not think my body is strong enough to handle Remicade and my insurance company will not approve surgery until I try Remicade. Needless to say, I am at a stand still. I am currently taking Lialda and am on steroids due to a nasty flare-up at the end of March. My doctor has me on numerous supplements because I'm anemic due to UC. They have also put me on Effexor XR to keep any kind of anxiety at bay since it affects my stomach in a very negative way. My situation has not improved and the UC has taken a different turn than what I have been dealing with for 10 years. I guess what I'm looking for are suggestions on what to do at this point. You would think after 10 years I would know what I should and shouldn't do but as I mentioned, it has taken a different turn and nothing I do seems to work. I'm in constant pain, not to mention the trips to the bathroom are becoming more frequent. I've explained this to my doctor who says that I may also have a bit of Irritable Bowel Syndrome creeping up on me as well as having to deal with a flare-up but I just keep getting put on medications that are not working for me. I have tried changing the way I eat, what I eat, when I eat.... nothing seems to work anymore and I'm very frustrated.

jojo replied: "Suggestion: Continue to go to your doctor and follow his advice and meanwhile do what I did. I had symptoms similar to what you described. I abstained from taking spicy, oily food, dairy products and green tea. My main diet was brown rice porridge ( could substitute with rice) which I ate with a dish of 3 types of vegetables, such as carrots, peas, cabbage, capsicum. Since your condition is very serious, I suggest you do not stir fry with cooking-oil and just use a little water and a little light soya sauce. I also went for walks, jogs and did some exercises.I changed my lifestyle and changed my life.Hope this information proofs useful to you.Good luck!"

Im 19 years old and I take multiple medications daily- Long term internal effects? Ok Im a 5'9" 19 year old girl. I attend college, have a job, model a little, all that jazz. But along with normal life, I have bipolar and anxiety disorder. For that I take 150mg of Effexor XR daily and 50mg of Zoloft about 3 times a week. I also take birth control because I suffer from excrutiating black out cramps. For that I take Yaz everyday. Also a part of my bipolar I have a bad eating schedule so my doctor prescribed me 75 mg of Diethylpropion which stops the latenight eating so I eat at the right times. so heres the List Daily I take: 150mg Effexor XR Yaz Birth Control 75 mg Diethylpropion Multiple times a week: 50mg Zoloft My question is, could all these medications negatively effect my organs such as my stomach, liver, or kidneys. Sometimes I have chest pains. I'm 19 years old and take more meds than some older adults do. Physically I'm healthy. I play sports I'm 5'9" tall and weight 140 lbs. thats because I'm tall and fit. Please someone just tell me what you know. Thank you.

daniel_enriquez2000 replied: "Well, yes, too much medication can affect you and will sometimes cause death. So I would say try to figure out why you're having these types of problems. Go to a psychologist about bipolar and anxiety disorder. Me, also being bipolar, figure out why I'm having a bad eating schedule. I think and plan when I will take my next meal. It is effective and I hope this will help you. If it doesn't I am sorry."

Emmy replied: "Over a long time, many years I mean, it could lead to intestinal problems but I highly doubt it. My aunt took Prednazone, Hep A meds, and 12 other meds daily for 30 years. She recently died but it was in no part to the meds. It was from cancer, not any side effects. You should be fine so just eat right and stay fit. BTW, I understand about the cramps...they hurt like hell so I can relate."
