How long does it take for hydroxyzine and its effects to subside? If a patient was administered 50mg of hydroxyzine, how long would it take for the blood level of hydroxyzine to return to 0? If the patient exhibits signs of drowsiness and dizziness 48 hours after recieving hydroxyzine, what is the likelihood of those symptoms being caused by something other that hydroxyzine?

Raimon replied: "This medicine is an antihistamine with sedative properties used as a tranquilizer and a pre-op medication. If effects last for more than 24 hours, there may be some type of kidney or liver problem."

Alli replied: "Call your pharmacist, or better yet a pharmacist in a hospital. They would know these kind of things, after all that's what they do for a living. I wouldn't take advise about that from someone on-line."

What side effects can one have after taking hydroxyzine? Would hydroxyzine cause vomiting and stomach cramping? And is there anything else you can do for anxiety?

sexylittlemisstweetybird83 replied: ": Hydroxyzine can commonly cause sedation, tiredness, sleepiness, dizziness, disturbed coordination, drying and thickening of oral and other respiratory secretions, and stomach distress. Hydroxyzine may also cause confusion, nervousness, irritability, blurred vision, double vision, tremor, loss or appetite, or nausea. Hydroxyzine should be used with caution (if at all) in persons with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate gland), hyperthyroidism, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and asthma. Some Treatments are: COGNITIVE THERAPY Cognitive therapy helps sufferers analyze and control thought patterns that produce anxiety. Negative and catastrophic thoughts are replaced by realistic, calming thoughts. Back to top BEHAVIOUR THERAPY Behaviour therapy aids in the control of physical symptoms and maladaptive reactions. A primary tools is relaxation techniques used to interrupt the anxiety cycle. Gradual exposure to the anxiety provoking object or situation addresses avoidant behaviour. Back to top MEDICATION The newer anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medications have become the first-line medication treatment for anxiety disorders. They are most effective when used in conjunction with cognitive behavioural therapy. Contact your physician for information."

Hydroxyzine? Does anyone else take this medication? What are the side effects?

kim1980tx replied: "It makes you sleepy."

Is it okay to take hydroxyzine, even if you are allergic to milk? I got prescribed Hydroxyzine for my severe chronic hives to take at night to help the itching, but in the inactive ingredients, it says that it contains anhydrous lactose. I'm not quite sure if thats the same as milk, but should I not take this medicine because of that ingredient? Thanks alot.

ckngbbbls replied: "call your pharmacist and ask. They are experts in drugs, interactions, allergy issues, etc and they do not mind answering questions."

Why do I get nauseous when I stop taking HYDROXYZINE? I take 100mg of Hydroxyzine a day for a number of reasons...When I try and come off of it i get so nauseous. I want to know why that is? And how long till it passes or is there something I can do to not feel nauseous?

oldtimekid2 replied: "As an antihistamine, it's not a normal response so I would definitely ask your doctor. It could be mental suggestion, it could be some allergen in your environment that you are too sensitive to, or there is a very slight possibility (as in there have only been a few cases) that you may have become addicted. I would definitely ask your doctor why you get nauseous when you stop, but don't accept him just throwing another drug at you unless he gives you an answer to that (and if he only offers drugs to cover up the symptoms, I would ask another doctor). Good luck and I hope I helped! [edit]: I don't see any reason that stopping an antihistamine would make your body detox, so I would doubt that would happen. A detox would be more likely if you started eating really healthy (lots of fruits, veggies, grains, and other healthy foods) when you stopped the drug. That is definitely not a normal reaction when you stop an antihistamine."

sweethoney785 replied: "it is your body ridding itself of the toxins in the medicine. it will take time but eventually it will pass. drink plenty of water and eat light nutritious meals. and let your doctor know what your needs are"

Mathieu replied: "Hydroxyzine is an antiemetic (reduces vomiting and nausea). I have not heard of people becoming ill when stopping it. You could reduce the dose slowly over time or you could take Dimenhydrinate (Dramamine/ Gravol). The Dimenhydrinate is also an antiemetic but it is much weaker to so a transition might reduce the nausea. But I would certainly ask your doctor. If you take the Hydroxyzine for anxiety then stopping the Hydroxyzine might just bring your anxiety back and anxiety and cause nausea."

What are symptons of Hydroxyzine overdose? If enough pills taken, can the overdose kill you? I'm worried about my cousin who has been prescription of Hydroxyzine. She's suppose to take them 1 in the morning and one at night but sometimes her allgeries bother her so much that she sometimes takes 4 pills a day and sometimes more :[ She takes a dose of 10mg

LonesomeScorp replied: "Symptoms Eyes, ears, nose, throat, and mouth Blurred vision Dry mouth, nose, and throat Heart and blood: Rapid heartbeat Low blood pressure Palpitations Nervous system: Depression Excitation Drowsiness Nervousness Dizziness Hallucinations Disorientation Delirium Coma Unsteadiness Tremor Convulsions Sleeping difficulties Uncoordinated movement Lungs: Shortness of breath Skin: Flushed skin"

Wicked Good replied: "She needs to get into the doctor and let them know her allergies are not controlled with her current dose. She should not increase the dose herself. You say 1 pill, but don't tell us the dose of the pill, it comes it different mg's. So the overdose thing is hard to comment on. One thing that will happen is she will run out sooner than she should. And may not be able to get it filled earlier. She really needs to see her doctor to see if they can change her dosage or change her meds. Increasing the dose of any medication on your own is not a good idea. Of course there are SO many people who think if a little is good a lot is better and that is not a good idea!"

is it ok to take hydroxyzine and cetirizine together? hydroxyzine at night and cetirizine in the morning? i was prescribed hydroxyzine for a rash on my skin that has developed (probably from contact with poison oak) and that just seems to knock me out at night. In the morning my grandmother gave me some cetirizine which is also used for allergies, but im not sure of the health effects of having both drugs in one's system. If you know anything about it, please share some information with me. Cheers!

oldtimekid2 replied: "Your best (and safest) bet would be to ask a pharmacist if there are any interactions listed between the drugs you're wanting to take. Doctors and pharmacists both have access to a database of drug and supplement interactions and they can tell you quickly if you can safely take them together or not.... anyone here will just have a best guess from searching on the internet (which isn't always accurate, as we all know) ;-) Good luck!"

What would happen if a perscription for hydroxyzine was misfilled with hydralazine and vice versa? I'm writing a story about a misfilled perscription and I need a pharmacist or medical professionals take on what would happen if these two common names were mixed up. I was unable to find much on a basic search except injury law websites. I'd like the medical details please.

Bud B replied: "call any pharmacy, they're happy to help"

Teri D replied: "If you recognize that the wrong medication was dispensed you need to contact the dispensing pharmacy and let them know...and obviously, don't take the med. Most pharmacies are open 7 days a week now. I am wondering, are you wanting to sue that you mention injury law websites? Obviously taking the wrong medication can cause harmful side effects by 1. not taking the right medication thus no affect on the condition you are treating or 2. The incorrect medication causes undue symptoms. I have been dispensed the wrong medication before and just went back and had the situation fixed. Unless you suffered some ill effect (did you not notice the difference in appearance in the meds) I would just get the situation fixed....our country has become so litigious...what people don't realize is that all of these law suits affect the prices we pay in health care, etc."

Lea replied: "The stock bottles try and make the difference clear. Hydroxyzine is an anti-histamine, and hydralazine is a blood pressure medication. Most of the time the pharmacy will refund the money and give the correct prescription for free. Most people are happy with that. Sometimes you throw in a gift card. Go to some of the pharmacy organizations websites, and they'll have stories about this. APhA's website is"

What is Hydroxyzine used for on babies? when my daughter was a little bit younger than now about 6 months old the doctor prescribed her some hydroxyzine 10mg/5ml syruhit. she is now 10 months old and teething some more causing her to have some bad diarriah and I thought that it might could help her because if i am not mistaking it was prescribed for vomiting and so fourth. A friend of mine told me to give her some childrens imodium but I am not to sure about that.

Jillian replied: "i've always thought it was an anithystamine(sp?) it controls itching because of alleriges and it also control vomiting. you are right we prescribe this a lot a worl for animals with food and seasonal allergies"

shell replied: "hydroxyzine is an antihystamine and is used for itching in the compounded form it is used in Zantac so if your child had reflux then maybe they gave it for that bust bet call the MD"

criertuck replied: "it is never a good idea to reuse a prescription drug. If she needed a dr's okay to have it the first time she would need it again."

Darby replied: "Please don't give any of this to your child without the doctor's approval. Make sure she doesn't get dehydrated. Give her ginger ale, applesauce, bananas."

Ashalee311 replied: "its definitely an antihistamine for itching."

hsmommy06 replied: "Alcohol withdrawal anxiety Anxiety manifested by organic disease states Nausea or nauseating conditions These are the 3 things it is prescribed for. You don't use this medication for dirrahea and besides that the loose stools should clear up over time by themselves. It is a myth that teething causes vommiting, fever, and loose stools. I suggest you just keep your Daughter on her regular formula. You can however give her just a bit of pedialite if she is unable to hold anything down. Unless she is vommiting every 5 minutes and can't stop then you can give her the meds under the doctors orders. I am really surprised the doctor gave that to you in the first place. I can think of more appropriate drugs for vommiting. Now if the dirrahea is like liquid and continues on for more than 4 days then you need to call her pediatrician. No immodium is not made for babies or children this young and besides vommiting and dirrahea are your bodies way of riding itself of the germs and illness. Please just give your baby some time, lots of love and hugs, and go slow on the formula with little bits at a time."

Giving hydroxyzine to a 5 year old to have dental work performed? The dentist recommened having my daug. sedated which I said NO, second opt is hyd. I am not familiar with this drug. Has anyone ever had a similar situation? My daughter needs a baby root canal (back tooth). I wanted to wait until the tooth just fell out but now the dentist says its getting down to her nerve she is scheduled for the procedure for the 16th, I am totally horrified by the thought of giving her this medication. Am i over reacting? Thank you for your answers. Alexa's BFF
