My doctor prescribed Ranitidine for my hives and to stop the itching. Is this normal? I all of a sudden developed hives mainly on my knees, elbows to my wrist and some on my back. I have tried Benedryl and Atarax and now the doctor is having me take Ranitidine. Says it blocks the histamines. I want to know if this is true and what to expect?
ZZZZ replied: "I had hive issues for months and not sure what is causing it, but I am allergic to animals and we have two cats but never had hives with them before until this past april, symptoms were very bad. Anyway i been on every drug known to man for hives. NEVER TAKE ZYRTEC or Lortadine (generic Claratin) i was assuming Lortiadine was the cause of my hives, an allergic reaction to that, but i dont think it is. Zrytec however, is effective towards allegies but i suffered a lot of swelling and since i quit taking that, no swellings except last night my lip swelled so who knows lol. Anyway my allergist is stupid, he wont test me for everything, but he prescribed me Doxepin HCL and i too was told to take Ranitidine (generic Zantac) because the mixture with the two works well. I have not have much outbreaks lately so my usual drugs at night is Doxepin (20 mgs) two ratadines and two Benedryl (make sure its the capsules, some odd reason i think the Tablets are giving me a reaction.) Also for soda, drink coke, grill foods, MT dew is ok but im thinkin there may be somethin in mt dew thats been buggin me. I also thought Beer was the cause but i drank sat night and no outbreaks the next day.
I also heard Havrex is suppose to be good, but havent' ordered it and by the way Ranitidine isnt a prescription."
:-yeah-: replied: "sounds weird cuz Zantac/ranitidine is used for gastric reflex problems, but this med is an (H2 hismine blocker). so give it a try hope it works out for ya."
This question is for Pharmacists, the doc prescribed Levsin .125 and Ranitidine 150 mg each twice a day for? irritable bowel syndrome, he said in the morning before breakfast and right before dinner.
I asked the pharmacist if I could take them together both times and she said it was ok, is this right? and does the Ranitidine work better after meals?
Are there any pills you can get prescribed to reduce the risk of getting kidney stones.? My mum was previously prescribed Ranitidine for excess stomach acid, but had stopped taking it. As kidney stones can result from having too much acid in urine, would continuing to take this pill have helped or not and if not what medication would?
Eggmcmuffin replied: "No, Ranitidine blocks the production of stomach acid in your digestive tract which is seperate from acids found in your urine. Normally uric acid is converted to ammonia which is excreted into the kidneys. Stomach acid is never reabsorbed into the bloodstream because it is buffered in the intestine.
The most common stones is calcium oxalate. Now you might be thinking to reduce calcium intake however, most people arean't getting enough calcium in the first place. However, alkaline urine (basic) can precipitate calcium stones. Usually, increased calcium levels in the blood is caused by metabolic disorders in your body rather than increased intake.
The next culprite is oxalate. Oxalate are found in meats. If you injest too much meat and protein you will have an increase in oxalate absorption. Also, Calcium inhibits oxalate absorption. Therefore, if you take calcium, it will bind up residual oxalate in your gut and pass it out in your feces hence it won't get into your kidneys.
Lastly is Uric acid stones which can precipitate with ACIDIC urine (opposite of calcium which is basic urine). Uric acid is also from excess meat intake. As protein breaks down in gets reduced to purines which then gets converted to uric acid.
My two cents:
Best thing to do is not worry about your mothers urine pH unless she is taking medications or have medical conditions. Stop the ranitidine. To best prevent kidney stones:
1) Contine or increase calcium supplements
2) Heat only the recommended servings of meat (2-3 per day)
3) Drink lots of water, the more water you have in your body, the less likely stones would be produced
4) Eat citrous foods (oranges etc) or take Calcium citrate. Citrate is known to `bust`early formation of stones."
ranitidine? im having an ear problem for more than two months. I went to the doctor and he gave me some medicine. it was ranitidine. but when i read the bottle, it says that is for ulcers and acid in the stomach. the stomach has NOTHING to do with my ear at all. is there any answer why he prescribe me this medicine?
What can cause bumps in the back of the throat? I can't see the bumps. If you were to take your finger and follow your tongue as far as you can down your throat and touch the part of your throat that if you had a hole there ur finger would come out front of your throat. Right there a little farther down u can feel a flap. right before that flap i feel a bunch of bumps that cause me to feel like something is in my throat.
I have been to the doctors for this twice and they have swabbed my throat and all the tests come back negative and they say it's nothing but they havent ever looked with a cam or anything to check. It bothers me alot. I do smoke but I'm quitting gradually and only smoke about half a pack a day now if that. I have really back heartburn which could be called GERD and I'm prescribed Ranitidine (Zantac) and Prevacid but prevacid gives me migranes sometimes so I just take zantac twice a day instead now.
I'm just wondering what the heck could be wrong?!?!??!!?
Diagnosis for stomach pain approximately 2 hours after a meal.? I have stomach pain (upper, abdominal in between ribs) a few hours after eating. This has been happening for a few weeks now. Last time I visited a doctor, I was prescribed Ranitidine. This did not help.
namairb2 replied: "You need to have some testing done by a GI doctor. These doctors specialize in the organs that digest your food. The area you describe is around the stomach. The medication you were prescribed is an acid reducer that is used with people that have a peptic ulcer. Even if you weren't tested for this an acid reducer usually helps this problem. Evidently you need further testing by a GI doctor that will do further testing for the correct diagnosis. Until then please refrain from drinking any alcohol, and try a more bland diet. You can go to wikipedia and search the BRAT diet. This will give you the foods in a bland diet. Please just try this for 3 days to see if it helps. It can't hurt and will only help you too. Good luck and God Bless"
Can you mix anything with liquid ranitidine to make babies take it easier? My 3 month old was prescribed liquid ranitidine to help with acid reflux, but it has a awful mint smell/taste to it. Does anyone know if you can mix it with anything to make it taste better or go down easier? I know you can get flavors at some pharmacies but the closest one to us that can do that is an hour and a half away, so I'm looking for other suggestions, like juice, formula? Anything that I'd have around at home?
I have been putting it into her cheek towards the back of her mouth and she still cries and screams and spits part of it back out. I was hoping there was an easier way, so she didn't get upset.
Is Ranitidine(Zantac) 150mg safe for pregnant women? I have been having some really bad heartburns in my pregnancy. At one of my doctor's visit, I complain about it and he prescribed for me Ranitidine 150mg ( for who doesnt know, it's same as Zantac extra-strenght for heartburns). I have studied pharmacy for 2 years, and I am well aware that not all medicine is safe for pregnant women. Not only I am not sure of the effects of Ranitidine on pregnant women, but the doctor also wrote me directives to take 2 tablets twice daily, everyday until delivery ( and i am 7 months pregnant at this time)... isnt a large amount? I do have heartburns, but mostly at night. I would like to have some advice about it. The doctor seemed to be okay with that..... Thank You...
Yes, I have use some other OTC's... like Tums and Pepcid, but it will not work. Maalox did some good, but to an extend... cannot rely on it all the time.
Doxycycline and Ranitidine? Can I take these two together? Ranitidine is for my acid reflux, and the doxycycline was prescribed by my dermatologist for my acne.
I forgot to ask him if it was safe to take the doxy while on the ranitidine.
Im supposed to take 2 tablets of the ranitidine at bedtime daily, and the doxycycline once a day.
Doxycyline - 100MG
Ranitidine - 150MG

Zantac (Ranitidine) for babies... My Daughter (almost 3 months) have just been prescribed this for reflux. She is having 0.4ml three times a day. My question is two fold:
1) Do any of you remember how much your child was prescribed at about the same age as my Daughter?
2) When I was pregnant I had really bad acid reflux and felt the constant need to burp (which began really painful) so I was given Zantac/Ranitidine tablets which worked a dream. However, I NEED my Daughter to burp during the day and with feeds as she suffers from GI problems and since starting the medicine yesterday her burps seem to have diminished. Anyone else experienced this or has she suddenly just got lazy with burping?
