Withdrawal Paxil Cr Facts in Questions
Can Xanax help with Paxil CR withdrawal symptoms? I take 37.5 mg Paxil CR--could taking Xanax help with the withdrawals of stopping Paxil?

What are the withdrawal symptoms of Paxil CR? I have been on this medication for about 7 years now and my doc told me to quit cold turkey because I was on such a low does anyways. He wants to switch me over to Trazodone. Now I am so sick and I have a migriane headache from hell..................Can anyone help?

missjenna522 replied: "tell your doctor"

fspriggs replied: "I was dizzy for about 4 weeks after I stopped taking regular paxil. I was switched from CR a while ago. Have you started the other medication yet. This may help, but you will probably have to be off the Paxil for at least a week, maybe two to ensure the drug is out of the system."

gary s replied: "schizophrenia,mental instability."

dragonfly51 replied: "Actually you just have to go through the withdrawals. You're going to feel antsy for a while but don't take anything for the headache or you will end up with rebound headaches from the headache medicine, even motrin or tylenol. He should actually go ahead and start you on the Trazodone. He doesn't have to wait to let the Paxil get out of your system. Ask him about that. Good luck."

leanne1200 replied: "I would slowly wine myself off them not all at once"

Kayla Bear RAwr replied: "My boyfriend use to take Trazodone to sleep at night. And if he didn't get enough sleep, he'd have a headache all day long regardless of how much IB Profuens he took. Once, I even attempted to take one. Same thing happened to me. Stupid pill, I think. :)"

Has anyone ever gone off Paxil Cr and experienced Withdrawal? Hi all! I had previously posted this question but some idiot had to post the nastiest response ever so I deleted it , so lets try again. For the last 11 months I was taking 25 mg Paxil CR I went on the medication due to the depression and anxiety I was having while I was going through a long ordeal with skin cancer. I have finished all the surgeries and treatments and felt it was time to go off the Paxil and I called my Doctor and was told there would not be a problem with me stopping the meds. About 2 days after I stopped the meds I started feeling just HORRIBLE. I started doing research and found that Paxil is a very bad med to have to come off of and there is a long adjustment period while your body re-adjusts. I have been having these piercing pains in my back and chest and was wondering if anyone else had experienced this when they came off of Paxil or Paxil CR? It doesnt feel like any panic attack I have ever had...what do you think this is?

cre8edbyhim replied: "Hi! First of all I'm sorry that you had to experience that negative response from a poster....Some people have bigger issues than they realize and resort to taking it out on others......As far as your question I have known people who have experienced withdrawal symptoms similar to what you have described....Just be sure to keep in close contact with your doctor....Coming off medications especially one of that magnitude really requires constant communication..I know that they suggest you taper off the medication a little at a time....I hope you start to feel better soon.....Remember this too shall pass....Congratulations on being so strong and handling all that you have endured...You're a fighter! Good luck and feel better!"

steve.c_50 replied: "I took it for 7 years. Paxil has a long half-life. For about 8 weeks I felt kind of "out of it" and had electric "zaps" when I moved my head suddenly and ringing in my ears that about drove me nutz. The doctor gave me some klonopin which really helped with all that. Really you're supposed to taper off the stuff but I couldn't stand the side effects and quit cold turkey. I don't know about the pains in your back...do you think you could have some fluid in your lungs or a damaged nerve after the surgery?"

mm replied: "Hi, I'm actually going through the whole withdrawal thing right now. I just got of paxil cr about a few days ago, changed it for wellbutrin sr. because of weight gain from paxil. After a few days, I feel just horrible. I have a faint feeling, vertigo, I mean so much dizziness, i almost fell earlier because of loss of balance. I also have a fever along with and upset stomach. Headaches, the works. But I have not experienced any back or chest pains other than the difficulty breathing."

Are these symptoms due to Paxil CR withdrawal? I am clinically depressed. I have bi-polar disorder and I have panic attacks. I have been taking Paxil CR, 37.5 mg for almost 3 years. I STOPPED TAKING THE MEDICINE 2 weeks ago and now I suddenly feel worse than ever. I feel as if I am losing my mind. I am dizzy. I have become mean and agitated and I can't control these crying spells. I think about hurting myself and I feel hopeless and useless. I can't sleep, when I do, I have night terrors that seem so real. I am home alone right now and I feel terrified and panicky! The only thing I can think about is cutting myself. I am overwhelmed. I don't know why I feel this way. Are these common withdrawal symptoms? What should I do?

question about paxil cr withdrawal? i was taking 12.5 mg my doctor increased it to 25mg i took only one and have been feeling dizzy depression flu symptoms could this be due to changing and confusion

Has anyone experienced Paxil Withdrawal or Wellbutrin side effects? I started taking Wellbutrin Sr a few days ago. I was on Paxil Cr and switched meds because of the weight gain of Paxil. I stopped taking Paxil Cr cold turkey. And now I feel horrible. My body is shaking within, memory loss for a second or two, slurred words, dizziness, imbalance, fever, tipical flu like symptoms. I know that these are symptoms of withdrawal, but I just wanted to know if anyone has gone through this and how long did it last. I'm going on vacation soon and I don't want to be miserable. I did go to the doctor. I was on paxil about a year and a half ago, stopped cold turkey and no side effects. So he said if I did it then, then it probly would be ok to stop. I just can't tell if it's side effects of Wellbutrin or withdrawal, or both combined. I am going back to the doctors today. Hopefully he'll tell me something good.

Oops your account has been suspe replied: "not me personally. I quit taking it cold turkey (which youre not supposed to do) and I was fine. Everyone is different though. You should wein yourself off of it, thats why youre having those sypmtoms, which is normal if you stopped cold turkey."

mama replied: "you need to go to the emergency room...."

timssterling replied: "I dont know but I once was told by someone on it that wellbutrin will allow you to experience orgasms lasting up to a couple of minutes... so I think youre on the right track... tough it out!"

DirtBikeBadAss replied: "I was on paxil during my teenage years. I never experienced withdrawal though. You should never stop taking any medication cold turkey. You could have some serious problems if you do."

cristina replied: "Was this change done with your doctor? Paxil is one of the hardest drugs to come off of. Your symptoms sound typical but I would communicate them with your doctor. Good luck!"

Surreal replied: "YOu need to see your doctor...in fact, you may need to seek the advice of a new one because no doctor in their right mind would suggest that you do such a thing as quit cold turkey. You have to ween yourself off of one decreasing dose of paxil while beginning at a low dose of wellbutrin. Then keep going decreasing one and increasing another to the point where you are only taking wellbutrin after a few weeks. Go to a doctor. This is not good and could be worse for your health. good luck."

dave s replied: "I'm not a doc but I went thru similar symptoms. Mine was attributed to drop in BP. Went to ER as I felt faint. Never drop an anti-depressant cold turkey as it can really mess up your body chemistry. See your physician NOW."

Jess replied: "If I were you, I would be very clear with the doctor and let him know you need to be weaned off. Cold turkey off antidepressants is not a good idea...it can be most unpleasant. But if you cut down gradually, you should be able to avoid those side effects. I have found that going down slowly to the smallest dose possible and then taking that tiny dose every other day before stopping altogether works very well for me. I've been dealing with bipolar since I was a child and I'm very familiar with and well informed regarding medications. Your doctor isn't the boss...he (or she) should be your partner in your treatment. you have every right to stand up for yourself and make sure you are getting what you need. There is no need to suffer with those withdrawal symptoms when it is so easily avoidable by weaning slowly. It's not too late...you can still do this. I don't know about Paxil specifically, but I have taken Wellbutrin with Zoloft...with Celexa...and with Lexapro...so I know that it is possible to take both at the same time (and for me it was quite effective actually), but that is something to talk with the dr about because you may have circumstances that would make it a bit more risky (certain other health problems or medications)."

What is the difference between Paxil And Paxil CR? Is Paxil CR less addictive and once your off of it does it have withdrawal symptoms

paxil withdrawal question? my dr weaned me off paxil cr 12.5mg slowly and the correct way bc it was working for my panic attacks. i have been diagnosed with panic disorder. i decided after many yrs of being a lap rat and meds side effects i would go see a coulncler and an herbologist and go all natural. i had my last paxil a wk ago fri. mentally i feel great. im not thinking about bad thoughts or scary what if things, mentally im doing great. i feel calm and have no anxiety. the othly thing is i have panic attack symptoms. i dont know if they are panic attacks or withdrawal. i looked it up and the s/s are the same. i dont feel anxious but my throat sometimes feels so tight like its closing up or i cant breath or my heart beats all punky. sometimes i have all three or just one at a time or two. so are they panic attacks or withdrawals. i just ignore these annoying symptoms and wait for them to pass. i just want my life back and i want to be free from panic disorder.

Wicked Good replied: "I think it sounds like your panic attacks are coming back although perhaps you are better able to handle some of the feelings that comes with them."

caffsans replied: "I'm not sure what withdrawals of paxil are ===but you sound like you are handling things very well =keep up the good work"

Hutteritemiler replied: "The truth is that you might never be truly "free" of this disorder. Most likely you can manage your symptoms. The symptoms you describe are not common with SSRI withdrawal. I would suggest you monitor your situation closely with your doctor. Beware of "natural" remedies. They can be every bit as dangerous as prescription drugs. By the way, it can take several weeks after being completely off of Paxil to know how you will ultimately feel."

prettymoreanysoon replied: "i don't know the answer to your question but congratulations on being off it!! it's good to know it's possible because i'm hoping my boyfriend can get off it someday... but he has been on it for sooooo long it's going to be hard. if he skips or forgets to take his meds, he gets the symptoms you are talking about, so if i had to guess, i'd say withdrawl."

Robin L replied: "It would be best to ask your doctor. I used to have panic attack and what you described sounds a little like what I used to feel. However, Medication with drawl can cause a lot of symptoms also, And can be dangerous if not treated by your doctor. Give him a call and check it out."

xfilekel replied: "Sorry to hear of your suffering, Jen, I can relate as my 11 yr old suffers from severe anxiety and panic attacks. We have been through 3-4 rounds of medication, having to stop some because of bad side effects, and others because they did not help. Unfortunately, in anxiety and panic, there is no one magic med that is right for everyone. Sometimes it takes many trials, and many months to find the right med due to weaning on (waiting for it to work) and weaning off if it is not the right one. I can understand you feeling like a "lab rat" but remember that meds can help, and they do have their place, as evidenced by improvement in your condition. No one likes to have to take meds everyday, but if taking that pill everyday takes away the panic attacks, isn't it worth it? When I think of everything my 11 yr has suffered through, and what she has put me (her father and her family) through, I would not change what is working. Are you getting any counselling to complement the med therapy? Cognitive behavior therapy is slow to work, but can help, and sometimes the meds are the key to allowing the therapy to work also. There is no easy answer for you. Be sure to keep your doctor informed of the symptoms you are having as they could be simply withdrawl, or they could be evidence that you really need to stay on the meds. Good luck with the natural remedies, I don't have much info on them. I would do anything to make my daughter well today, but unfotunately this problem is a "slow, uphill climb" as her therapist and psychiatrist call it. Good luck to you...."

majnun99 replied: "If you're having panic attack symptoms, then you're not really free from anxiety. The throat tightening is a classic anxiety symptom. I don't know what you mean by "punky" heart beats but anxiety can make your heart beat harder and faster. It doesn't sound like withdrawal symptoms, it sounds like your anxiety is coming back. Paxil from a medical doctor is probably going to be more reliable than counselling and herbs. I quit taking Paxil and starting taking St. John's Wort. My depression and anxiety wasn't bad, but I had terrible stomach aches. As soon as I stopped taking St. John's Wort, the stomach aches went away. I'm back on Paxil again. The side effects of St. John's Wort were far worse than Paxil ever was. Maybe you'll luck out, but I just don't think the chances are very good. Sorry, but I'm giving an honest opinion."

Moonface replied: "Hi, sorry to hear you are feeling so bad. Either way, the following steps should help: 1.Breathe properly - if you control your breathing, you control panic. As soon as you notice the signs of anxiety, check your breathing: breathe in slowly through your nose pushing your tummy out (to the count of 5 or so). Breathe out slowly and for a bit longer (to the count of 7 or so) through your mouth. Do not breathe rapidly or shallowly (in the chest area). This will soon restore the balance of oxygen and you will feel a lot better. 2. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy! CBT is proven to be the most effective thing for panic attacks, OCD and anxiety etc. It takes a bit of work, but it is super effective. (After 15 years of panic attacks, mine stopped completely). You can speak to your doctor about taking a course or you can take a course for free online at: 3. Try relaxation exercise tapes (progressive muscular relaxation). They really help if you practise often enough. You can get free downloads in you put "progressive muscle relaxation" into Google (e.g. lots of universities have them as free downloads) With each step practise makes perfect. (i.e. practise the steps every day, not just when you are feeling bad). I hope you feel better soon. Best of luck!"

When I haven't taken my paxil CR 30mg for a couple of days and I start feeling overwhelming sadness...? Is that from withdrawal or is that the way I will be if I stop taking it altogether? I no longer have health insurance so asking "my doctor" is out of the question. I try to take it every other day to every 3 days to make the script last as long as possible.

JOHN P replied: "One of my friends asked me this kind of questions before,I found helpful here ."
