Has any1 had an allergic reaction to zantac? Im covered n a lil red pimple like rash everywhere. i stopped taking zantac and will know n a few days if thats wat caused it but im just wondering if any1 has had this problem. im 34 wks pregnant. cnt find side effect list anywhere. also take zrytec.
Alex replied: "considering that you`re on zantac and zyrtec, two meds that prevent allergic reactions, i doubt that it`s a reaction to either of the meds.
i believe it`s an unrelated condition."
I do care! replied: "It is a known side effect of Zantac.
Taking a Zyrtec may help a little but not usually as it's not an allergic reaction.
Stopping the medication, which you have done, will stop the rash in it's tracks and help it disappear.
Speak to your Doctor about prescribing an alternative H2 inhibitor.
Being pregnant changes our whole systems."
what is the % of people who take ranitidine (zantac) 150 mg tablets, who have an allergic reaction to it? Cath I know allergic reactions are rare with zantac but glaxo smith kline the makers of zantac wouldn't tell me. They said my Dr. could call and find out but i know my Dr. is too busy to call them and he just tells me it is rare and I should take the med.
sameer p replied: "Ranitidine is perhaps the safest antacid.I myself have prescribed and keep on prescribing it to n no of patients.None have reported with any side-effects yet.
But be careful if u r planning to conceive or prgnant.
otherwise feel absolutely relaxed about it's safety."
angels danced here replied: "I am taking Zantac ATM I don't have an allergic reaction to it but do sometimes feel wired after taking them"
a month ago I had stents implanted I had allergic reaction to Plavix then given Ticopidine which upsets my ? stomach, tried pepcin and zantac with little or no help Has any one taking a bloodthinning drug without this side effect?
raksha replied: "Talk to your pharmacist. Does the drug HAVE to be taken on an empty stomach? If not, you could try taking it with a little food and that might help alleviate the upset stomach."
riverofmydreams replied: "i had only tried plavix and allergic 2 it 2.. so i'm on one aspirin aday (325mgs) as a blood thinner 2 pervent the big stroke.. i was also told if i ever needed surgery, 2 get off the aspirin for 2 or 3 days before surgery.. but i'm taking aspirin 4 mini strokes and not stent implant.. bummer eh ~ 4 upset stomach, try peppermint life savor.. it sooth's the stomach imediately.. then spit it out : )"

I was put on doxyicline for brochius I took the entire 10 days with no problem, then about 3 days after I stoped I broke out with tiny red bumps that itch like he.. I went to the Dr. today and he said it was an allergic reation to the antibiotic. I understand how you can get it after your done with medication. He gave me Zantac and pednisone it hasn't helped at all yet. I don't know whether to go to a different Dr. or just wait it out. Please give me some advise. Thank You
pimpmafia20 replied: "yes some people can develop allergic reactions to medicine after they take them."
FutureMrs replied: "Yes you definitly can, dont take those meds again, and you can take some benadryl to stop the itching until it goes away!"
Do you have to stop drinking alcohol completely if your allergic? I have Asian glow when I drink alcohol and I'm Asian I hear this is a type of allergic reaction that can be counter acted with Pepcid AC or zantac but should I stop drinking completely? I only drink socially how bad is drinking for me since I have this condition?
spiffer1 replied: "That would be my recommendation.
Whether allergic or not people seem not to be aware of the level of toxicity of alcohol we can tolerate before alcohol poisoning occurs.
I am afraid an allergy would have greater impact on the toxicity alcohol has in your system."
Allergic reaction.... HELP!!!!? I recently had hardware removal in my leg. The doctor prescribed 'Clindamycin' . I thought things were going fine but about a week and a half to two weeks I started to get really bad stomach acid. Thinking that it was just from stress from other things going on in my life, I just got over the counter 'Omeprazole'. After I had taken 'Omeprazole' for two days I broke out with a rash all over my body. I didn't think it was the 'Clindamycin' because I had stopped it two days before I stated taking 'Omeprazole' because my leg looked fine. My rash only appeared after I started taking the 'Omeprazole', and hasn't fully gone away. Now I take Zantac and today I started my cycle of Clindamycin again. A couple hours later my rash started to get worse and it seems that it is the Clindamycin that is causing it. So my questions is, could my body be having a delayed allergic reaction to Clindamycin since I didn't experience or notice any symptoms for those first two weeks that I was taking it? And if that's the case, how long does a antibiotic usually stay in your system so I know when to expect the rash to go down? My doctor has seen the rash when we thought it was the Omeprazole and he said to just use Benadryl. SO now I know what has been causing it, I will stop using the antibiotic since my leg is fine. If I could get an answer for the above two questions and any other recommendations or help that would be great. Thank you so much!
S P replied: "CALL YOUR DOCTOR! You cannot stop an antibiotic and not start a new one. You evidently had a reason for you to be on the antibiotic. If your leg was fine as you say, then the second round of antibiotics would not have been ordered."
experienced moms, first time mom needs your help. Ithink my 2 month old is having an allergic reaction. Help!? My 2 month old was spitting up a lot so he was diagnosed with acid reflux. The Doctor told me to add rice cereal to formula (plus prescribed zantac). He's been taking formula w/ rice cereal for 1 1/2 weeks. This week he's developed a rash, hives all over body, puffy eye. Does not seem to itch. What can it be?
Hannah's mommy replied: "It could possibly be from the rice cereal, but doubtful. He could also be having a reaction to the Zantac.
I would stop both the cereal and the Zantac until you can get into the doctor."
Betsy replied: "Hives alone will not hurt him. Unless his breathing is affected just stop all medications and the cereal until you speak to his doctor.
**eta**An allergy can occur at the first conact with a substance or take years to develop."
Mom 2 Eddie-1.5 & Ethan-Due 2/14 replied: "Hives are a good indicator of an allergic reaction!! My son got hives when he ate raisins so I'm not giving them to him anymore. Also I got them from taking penicillin so I'm allergic to that. I would stop giving him both the rice cereal and the zantac and call his doctor as soon as you can."
Janet replied: "If it was an allergic reaction I'd expect to see something in a few days, not 1.5 weeks. Maybe it's a reaction to something else. Has baby been exposed to any pets or other allergens? Maybe a new laundry soap or blanket that hasn't been washed? Could it be heat rash?Doesn't sound like the rice cereal or zantac could be doing this but I'd still check with the pediatrician."
angela c replied: "Call the doctor ASAP anytime you suspect allergic reaction."
Ashleighs mommy replied: "Well my daughter is lactose intolerant she spit up about 75% of whatever I gave her she tried many formula's she is also on a soy based diet. I think that anything suspicious you should call your Doctor ASAP or go to emergency if serious."
How long is it when drinking beer that you may get an allergic reaction? I been struggling with Hives for the past few months, had an allergist test for Cheese, Animals (which is postive and i have two cats) and lupus and my white blood cells are normal. Anyway, I was thinking the cats were triggering it but we went out of town so i was away from them and had an outbreak the next day and a swollen lip, i drank beer the night before and a microwave cheeseburger from the gas station and my normal food from arbys earlier that day. Im guessing its the beer. Later that night at a wedding reception i also had drank, hives again the next morning but not that bad, but my lips were swollen and my throat was buggin me and acid indegestion was bothering me as we were leaving for home. My normal drugs I take are DOxpin hcl 10 mg at night and rantdine(zantac) 150 mg and sometimes benardyl if my hives are bad. So anyway I ruled out the cats, im not allergic to foods for a fact, i do notice more hives after drinking and facial swelling, but it has happened before at work
Just wanted to add, i do get redness and hives on hands at work during the week so another rule out for alcohol, maybe my immune system isnt liking caffeen? Curious to know how long it takes for a reaction to occur if it is the beer?
No i don't have lupus, was tested negative and I didn't take my meds fri before i drank. I did take doxepin sat morning though and drank later on at 6 that night. Also last night i was eating popcorn and my left side of my face started to swell then my left side of my neck. Its rare for me to be allergic to popcorn, but it was weird how i had an allergic reaction soon after. The ingrediants in popcorn is in soda, i also had fritos during the weekend i was away and MT dew. But i have always drank soda and ate popcorn and fritos and never had an allergic reaction. I may go in for more tests. so far I have been tested for animals, cheese and lupus, postive on the animals, but i was out of town and still had a reaction so it cant be the cats i have.
Ring Ring Ring Bananaphone replied: "If you're drinking mostly beers or wines or things like Smirnoff Ice then it could be an allergic reaction to sulfa. I actually get rapid heart rate and feel like I'm on fire when I drink those smirnoff drinks but I'm fine when I drink hard liquor, I searched it and I found that a lot of people have had similar reactions."
stef86_id replied: "It should be soon enough...was there anything you took during the night of the week days that contain alcohol at all? if not, you could rule out the alcohol and try something else..anything you eat on that last night? -you might want to consider the ingredients..allergic reaction only need a little of the allergen to trigger them.."
mgnysgtcappo replied: "It could be the combination of medications and alcohol. I'm positive that there's a warning on both benadryl, doxpin and rantdine about not consuming with alcohol. Those labels are actually there for a purpose...as in you shouldn't drink while taking them. It can be a difficult concept to grasp, I know but maybe heed the warning labels.
Do you have discoid Lupus or SLE? Discoid Lupus could be causing all of the skin problems. If you have SLE you shouldn't be drinking anything as any number of terrible things could happen.
In any event I think your body's trying to tell you something. I'm sure nothing I've said here will penetrate but it's there, staring you in the face...literally."
prescription while pregnant? i got a case of hives/allergic reaction.i went to the doctors and they gave me zantac & steroids. im 6 weeks pregnant. is this safe to take?
i took it for the first time today but should i continue?
the hospital didnt know im pregnant.
Tati replied: "i wouldn't take a drug prescribed by a doctor that didn't know you were pregnant, call you OB first thing tomorrow, it may be ok but you definitely want to get advice from a doctor that knows you are pregnant...
you can also check with safefetus.com that site will tell you what categories drugs fall into... but still you are best off talking to you OB"
Belle Femme replied: "If they didnt know you were pregnant you could be taking something that will harm that will harm the baby. Contact the doctor to find out, and always tell them you are pregnant."
tyandtobesmom replied: "Was it Zyrtec or Zantac? Zyrtec is for allergies, Zantac for heartburn. I would not take the steroids unless a dr who knows you are pregnant says it is OK. The Zyrtec is fine, I took that while I was pregnant and it was prescribed by my DR."
*VA Mama* replied: "I know zantac is, I took that while pregnant. I'm not sure about the steroids, but you should have told them you were pregnant. Call your OB before you take anything."
Missy Q replied: "CALL YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY... your obgyn will tell you if it is safe for the baby... the hospitals usually never get the full story... and if they new you were pregnant they prolly wouldn't have given it to you... talk to your doctor ASAP"
Lo replied: "Go on line and look it up on Google. If it says not to take it while pregnant stop taking it and go back to the hospital and tell them that you are pregnant."
blndbluhottie replied: "i am not a doctor, but i would try benadryl and tylenol first before anything else. these are two of the safest drugs you can take right now and they might just do the trick!
good luck!"
Louise L replied: "I would not be taking them. I would switch to an energy medicine Australian Bush Flower Essences Calm & Clear Essence mist sprayed on should help a lot. Emergency Essence is there is pain 20 minutes alternating as needed

38 fair-skinned male w/ zits that will not go away,no history of skin problems,no changes to diet o lifestyle? Shortly after the turn of the new year, I honestly went to bed with perfectly fine skin, I woke the next morning with ~ 10 zits on my face. The next morning, I woke with an ~ 10 more. The next I woke with an additional ~10 more. I immediately tried treating them with OTC things. I do not recall the order, but I tried the AcneFree system, Clean-andClear "Morning Burst" "Oxygenating" Scrub, a Murad Adult Acne system, something called Trioxil and as my skin got more sensitive and less responsive, I tried an Olay blemish control product with only 0.5% Salicyclic Acid. I read on webmd about adult acne and saw the recommendation for alpha hydroxy acids, which the Olay and Murad products already had in them, but this lead me to try stronger AHA. I tried every product frrom Aqua Gylcolic.
After a month of experimenting, my skin was so sensitive, I couldn't even use sensitive skin washes. I went to a dermatologist. She gave me adapalene. I tried that plus changing facial washes literally every day and even was forced for one week to go 3 days without washing at all b/c of extreme pain in the skin, and I'd never even used any of these products for more than twice a day.
About a week into the Adapalene (Epiduo) treatment, my skin sensitivity was somewhat under control. I found that if I merely washed with the AcneFree toner and no soap just once daily, I could apply the adapalene twice daily with only very minor irritation. About a week later, I switched to washing my face with Tom's of Maine Soap b/c I liked the idea that it only had 4 ingredients, all natural as opposed to the 20 to 40 chemicals in a typical soap even for sensitive skin and with extremely weird chemicals.
After a month of the adapalene, I went back to the dermatologist. It seems over the months of January (OTC treatment) and February (adapalene treatment), NOTHING at all had changed about the zits. In fact, they exhibit a very strange behavior. They'll come to a head, sometimes pop themselves and sometimes I'd pop them, and then they'd remain the same size, same redness and about a week later come to a head again, never going away or changing shape, size or color. This remains the case today.
The deramtologist then prescribed topical clindamycin in Benzaclin. I have been on this for nearly 4 weeks now. Nothing is changing still!!! The zits seem permanently stuck at their original size, shape, location, elevation and color.
My mother suggested perhaps it's not at all acne. She suggested perhaps an allergy. I tried taking Benadryl, Clariton and Zantac (yes, a little kwon fact for allergic reactions). To no surprise, no change.
And oh, as part of my home treatment, from the very start of the "acne," I have been taking 90mg zinc as gluconate and oxide mix with 2 mg copper daily. Even though I had never had bad acne EVER, not even in puberty, I still picked up on this tip ~20 years ago. It's not helping so apparently there is no need to continue. Nothing is helping so apparently there is no need to continue.
To this day, I wash every morning with Tom's of Maine and apply the Benzaclin before work. At night, I 'wash" my face with the AcneFree Toner which has witch hazel and niacinamide and then apply Benzaclin again. This seems to produce only modest irritation. My skin basically burns nonstop but at a very acceptable level, and the skin doesn't get noticeably red apart from the zits. However, the zits don't change one iota. They look EXACTLY the same as they did nearly 2-1/2 months ago.
As anotther interesting side note. Approximately one week into the acne, I developed bilateral tinnitus of the classicaly type -- constant ringing, 24/7. I knew I had an "auditory" sensitivity to Salicylates for years b/c even moderate doses of aspirin have produced transient tinnitus years earlier, even before I knew aspirin could cause such. However, these past incidences passed after ~24 hrs. This tinnitus remains 2 months later, and I have not used any salicylates topical or oral. It has not changed one bit either. It is the same intensity 24/7.
This seems a little odd to me to say the least.
Also, about one month ago, I started Burdock orally since it has been a tradition for skin conditions through the centuries though with absolutely no scientific basis. I will likely stop it soon (today).
Nothing had changed in my diet, in my lifestyle, in the washing detergent or fabric softner I use, in the close I wear or ANYTHING! Just BOOM!!! Out of nowhere. "Here buddy. Have a lifetime's worth of zits."
I consider myself to eat healthy. I'd describe my diet as balanced. I rarely eat out, literally maybe once every 2 weeks. i normally go to the grocery store and buy mostly fruits, veggies and grains. I do not overindulge. I do not deprive myself. I do not eat on irregular schedules. I feel I eat light breakfast, lunch and dinner. I do not snack. I rarely eat junk foods. I typically only have
Greywolf replied: "Wow, you seem to have done everything I can imagine you could do in response to your problem and you have my great sympathy.
Have you had full blood work to see if there's something unrelated to your skin going on? Maybe a vitamin or mineral deficiency.
The only thing I can suggest is that you keep digging over anything that may have changed during the immediate period prior to the break-out. I have no doubt you've done this over and over again, but do it again, try to do it day by day to remember anything at all that was unusual. Exposure or injestion of anything that could have resulted in both the zits and the tinnitus. There must be a linkage.
There are viruses that cause rashes along nerve pathways, like shingles, and I wonder if it might be something similar to that.
You also seem to be doing a tremendous amount to your skin. Have you tried backing off on some of the harsh treatments and maybe just getting some UV exposure via the sun or a tanning bed? (grasping).
I really hope you get a definative answer and that this clears up. Maybe you could find someone who has had the same experience on an adult acne forum."
