How much does a generic dosage of infant zantac cost? Need to know about how much a generic bottle of infant zantac costs?

is it ok to add infant zantac to oatmeal cereal? my daughter just got put on zantac and she hates the taste of it spits all of it out and shes already on cereal so will it still work if you mix it with food or is that a bad idea? any suggestions welcome..

My3Boys replied: "Read the dosage instructions to see if it's to be administered before a feed/between feedings/during feedings...also, check with a pharmacist. If it's OK, then the only thing I'd suggest is to make sure she eats ALL the cereal, or she won't get her full dosage."

Dandi replied: "I don't know why you wouldn't be able to do it. As long as she's getting the medicine, it should be fine! We put my son's Advair on his food and he eats it just fine. Ask you doc just to be sure, but I think whatever you do to get her to take it should be alright! Good luck, giving medicine to babies is no fun at all!"

Daisy Cat replied: "Put it in with her formula, that way you can be sure that she takes it all. We would put ours in a 4 ounce bottle of formula and then Ella would take it without fussing."

Queen replied: "Yes, or you can buy the little medicine contraption that looks like a mini bottle with a nipple. I use it for my son 3 1/2 month old who's on Prevacid and Reglan."

What dose of Zantac was your infant on? What was the dose, how many times per day, and at what age? ( I realize it goes by weight - I am just trying to get a general idea...)

puresugar078 replied: "what did the dr tell you to give??? thats what i would go by not what others are giving"

LeAnn replied: "Do what the DOCTOR tells you to do."

Caroline replied: "at ages 3-5 months he was on .8 two times a day, but now that he weighs more he is on 1.5 two times a day!"

sniffles replied: "1.5 twice a day"

sadieky1974 replied: "6 weeks old, 7lb 10 oz - she takes .4 mL twice a day - call the pharmacy you got it from and they'll tell you exactly what to do - don't take a chance."

tonnieRN replied: "dd takes 3cc s a twice a day; since she started a few mos ago; she's six mos now not sure what the concentration is though..."

How long does Zantac take to take effect when prescribed for GERD? My daughter's pediatrician thinks that my daughter has acid reflux, which I think she's right on. She prescribed her infant Zantac. We started giving it to her yesterday, but I haven't seen any significant change. How long does it take to fully take effect? And, eventually does it take care of the spit up all together or does it just make the spit up less acidic?

Ethan's Mommy [06/10/08] replied: "About a week or two to take full effect. It wont take care of all the spit up but it will happen less often and without the acid."

~*~Braden's Mommy MYOB~*~ replied: "It took about 3 days with my son. It doesn't decrease the amount of spit up at all. It just makes it less painful for the child"

Jessica replied: "It took my son at least 3 or 4 days to notice his throat clearing stopping. i would give it a week before you call the dr. My son is now on prevacid and it works greats too."

Evan Blows Bubbles replied: "My son's on Prevacid, but if they're about the same, it took him a good week for it to kick in. After about a week, he had some really good, less fussy, happier days. Now, he has some bad days here and there, but is sooooo much better! He still spits up, but his tummy feels better. He eats better and fusses less."

Jeremiah's Mommy replied: "You won't really see a decrease in the amount of spit up, your daughter will be less fussy. The Zantac will suppress the acids, so they won't come up into the esophagus and cause discomfort. I saw results from the Zantac in about 3 to 4 days with my son."

anyone had an infant on zantac (ranitidine) for reflux? My 3 week old was put on liquid zantac today for reflux and was wondering of anyone one has experience with this and if it helped? How much was the dosage?

Save the Drama....for Your Mama replied: "I don't remember the dosage for my son, but I do know it did NOT help him. He had to get on Prevacid, about 3 weeks before it stopped bothering him! Good luck, maybe it'll help with your baby! ADD: My son's was 1/2 mL and he was breast fed."

~KGB~ Kaitlyn's mommy replied: "My daughter is on it and it helps but she is on a HIGH dosage. She almost 3 months and weights 11 lbs 5 oz, she takes 1.3 ml 3 times a day. She is also on enfamil AR formula (it has rice starch to thicken it)"

KenZ replied: "Mine had to take reglan for his reflux.... Keep a close eye on your baby while sleeping b/c acid reflux can possibly cause sleep apnea. I am not trying to alarm you, but my first son had it due to acid reflux, and he had to wear a monitor. I found him not breathing when he was 2 months old, which is what led to the discovery of his problem. Luckily, it was not too late! But you might want to research it or discuss the chances with your doctor.."

1luvngmom replied: "Mine is on prevacid (love it) and enfamil ar (love it) and dr brown wides(love them) and with these become a happy happy spitty baby..."

infant reflux and zantac? My baby was diagnosed with infant reflux and is now on Zantac. Does anyone else have a baby on zantac? Have there ever been any adverse reactions with babies and zantac? It seems like drugs are approved and then a year or two goes by and they recall the drug for serious reasons. My baby seems to be doing better on the medicine than before taking it. But I'm still cautious about medicating a baby.

lizstonerock@sbcglobal.net replied: "Hi my baby was placed on Zantac at 4 weeks old. she had the modified barrium swallow test and showed mild-moderate acid reflux. She was originaly placed on .5ml 2 times per day. at 3 months moved up to .6ml 2 times per day and at 5 months moved up to 1.2 ml 3 times per day(the gastro doctor increased her doseage when we went to see about the extreme crying, I knew something was wrong, not just COLIC) turned out she was cow milk/soy protein allergic. Once I changed my diet as I was breastfeeding she quit crying as much and became a different baby within 2 weeks. Anyway, she is 9 months old and Ive stopped giving her the zantac since 7 months old as she is still spitty but not nearly as much. I understand about you not wanting to medicate your child as I was also, I never followed the times per day as I was told by my pediatrician that Zantac in extreme rarity can cause liver damage in infants. I gave just what was the minimum to cut down on the reflux. Good luck!!"

Beth replied: "My baby was on it and he didnt improve much, but he had it bad. But had no bad reaction to it."

Sarah R replied: "My son was on Zantac for a few months. The only side effect I noticed was it had a tendency to make him constipated. He was off of it at pretty much around 9 or 10 months old. I was worried about the side effects too, so a lot of the time I just gave it to him if I noticed the reflux was really bothering him."

vanju m replied: "Dear Madam, Reflux in babies needs medications when they are really problematic - like reduced weight gain, Recurrent lower respiratory tract disease manifestations, or bad enough to cause bleeding or feed intolerance. Conservative measures like 45 degree popped - up position and giving only Breast feeds and thickened feeds if the baby is above 4 months as weaning would solve the problem. Zantac is medicine that contains the generic drug Ranitidine. The symptoms of the child is reduced by this drug's capability to reduce acid secretion. They are Pharmacologically called as H2 receptor blockers. The drug is the most safest of all the remedies available for your problem. It has stood time for more than 2 decades and so fear of calling back of the drug. No direct adverse effects are seen very often on babies in therepeutic doses. But the following are indirect effects which can be considered. Vitamin B12 - Probable Need for Supplementation H 2-receptor blockers appear to impair the absorption of vitamin B 12 from food. This is thought to occur because the vitamin B 12 in food is attached to proteins. Stomach acid separates them and allows the B 12 to be absorbed. The solution? If you regularly use H 2 blockers, take B 12 supplements. They can be absorbed easily because they are not attached to proteins. Folate - Supplementation Possibly Helpful There is some evidence that H 2 blockers may slightly reduce the absorption of folate. Folate is an important nutrient and one that is commonly deficient in the diet; so if you are taking H 2 blockers, you should probably take folate supplements, too. Minerals - Supplementation Possibly Helpful By reducing stomach acid levels, H 2 blockers might interfere with the absorption of iron, zinc, and perhaps other minerals. Taking mineral supplements that provide the U.S. Dietary Reference Intake (formerly known as the Recommended Dietary Allowance) of these substances should help. Magnesium - Take at a Different Time of Day Some laxatives and antacid gel preparations contain Magnesium, which are very unlikely to be used for Infants. Magnesium supplements may interfere with the absorption of H 2 blockers. However, the interference may be too minor to cause a real problem. If you think your magnesium supplements are interfering with your medication, you can get around the problem by taking these minerals at least 2 hours before or after you take an H 2-blocking medication."

Infant Zantac? My 5 week old son was prescribed zantac 3 times a day for his reflux... When is the best time to give it to him, before eating? after? how long in between?

infant zantac good for acid reflux? My son has been suffering from acid reflux since he was a week old. he is now 4 weeks old and we just figured out what it was. The doctor kept saying it was colic and there was nothing we could do but i refused to accept that and come to find out, its not colic at all. The doctor prescribed him zantac which we used twice a day for a week (saw no improvement once so ever) he now UPed his dosage to 3 times a day. (still not much improvement). I am wondering if zantac is the best medication for this kind of issue, or should we put him on something else since the zantac doesn't seem to be working?

Peyton's Mommy replied: "yes it worked well for us. Peyton stop vomiting and spitting up with a few days of taking it. It's a pain getting it down though. Ask him to change the medication to something else. There are other meds that work for reflux. You should google it and ask him for it."

nw replied: "My 2-month old was taking .3ML every 8 hours, which was 3 times a day. It did help a little, so I kept her on it. She eventually out grew it in a few months."

A Christian replied: "There used to be Prevacid which was stronger than zantac but it's been discontinued, I use Acidphex myself, it's stronger than zantac, but check to see if it's for infants, I am suprised he uses zantac."

Jaiden Eats At Mommy's replied: "There are other medications. But Zantac is not going to necessarily stop the spitting, it is going to relieve the discomfort that accompanies it. The reflux is basically something your baby has to ride out. My daughter is 9 months old and she still spits up. Not as badly as she did at your baby's age, but we still give her Zantac sometimes for the fussiness. To help minimize the spitting be sure to burp baby often, keep him upright for about 15min after eating with not jostling around, have him sleep in an inclined position and try not to let him stay flat on his back for long (supervised tummy position is best). (talks a little about breastfeeding and reflux but still has good tips if baby is formula fed) **We did the .3ml every 8 hrs. She's now on 1ml every 8hrs but we give it as needed like if she is having a bad spit-up day."

Jenn replied: "My daughter is 2 months old and I've been giving her zantac for a month now. .7mL every 12 hours. It seems to help with the amount of pain she was in. She still spits up, sometimes it's far less than it was, but the pediatrician told me zantac does not control the amount of spitting up, just the pain that is associated with it. If it's not helping your son, I would definitely discuss other options with your doctor. I know how frustrating it can be. Have you tried the mylicon drops or gripe water? Also, I don't know if you're breastfeeding or not, am I'm sure you've already tried everything, but if you are breastfeeding look and see if there is something you may be eating that is disagreeing with him. My doctor recommended if I put mine on formula to use the Similac Sensitive... I think prevacid is too harsh for your baby right now. My doctor said my daughter was too little for prevacid when she was 4 wks... Good luck, I hope you find what works. I think it's just trial and error at this stage."

linuxsuze replied: "Ginger or peppermint helps settle stomach problems. I would change his milk to a different formula and see if he has less reflux. After he has his bottle do not lay him down. the acid in his stomach work their way up and burn instead of go down to digest food."

Has giving your infant zantac for reflux made him worse? I give my 8 week old son zantac for reflux and he seems to get really iriitable and cry .I have stopped and started it again because the other night I thought he was choking or having a seizure and I had to call an ambulance .It was a reflux episode they told me.I'm so cofused as to what to do nothing seems to help this child. They have changed his formula about 5 times now. It's has been very exausting and I still have no answers. They refused to do any GI tests on him in the hospital or outpatient.

Infant Reflux and Zantac (Ranitidine)? My 7 month old son has suffered from reflux from birth. He is now under paediatric care for this and has been prescribed Zantac, aka Rantidine. The dose is a very small 1.2ml twice a day so i am a bit doubtful if it will work. He has been on many different medications for this and so far nothing has worked. He has no allergies so it is purely reflux. Has anyone else used this medication for infant reflux and is so, did it work? Thanks for the answers so far. He does not suffer silent reflux (burning) as his food is always completely brought back up. He doctor did give me this to control his vomiting, not heartburn. Infant Gaviscon did work for about a month but then stopped doing the job and the reflux got worse.

yellowfish replied: "sorry all i can say is that my son was on infant gaviscon for reflux and it worked excellently!!!"

maddie'smommy replied: "my daughter is on zantac. She's three months old , and is on 1.5 ml 2x a day. It does not cure her problem, if she misses a dose she still experiences pain, but as long as she takes it, she displays no symptoms. Keep in mind zantac is designed to minimize the burning pain they feel, not the actual spitting up. So if you still notice spitting up , that doesn't mean the medication isn't still doing what it is designed to do. Keep him sitting up after feedings. let him sleep in a swing or bouncy seat. and feed him smller meals, more often."

kate.webster3@btinternet.com replied: "My son had Infant Gaviscon for this and didn't really help at all, it only got better when he was about a year old. I think sometimes they just have to grow out of these things"

Honesty replied: "i sleep my baby on his belly, changed him to formula for gassy and fussy babies and quit giving him treatments for reflux because he didnt need it ,just needed me to realize we were being given bad adivce from hospital after many visits and problems caused by them ... he is 3.5 mths npw and fine , mostly because he sleeps on his belly;remember ;hospitals are in business to make money ......... use your brain not just your ears ... i realize some babies are genuinely sick, but alot of it is prescribed sickness ...."

layla replied: "My son has also had reflux since he was born. The first thing the doctor put him on was Rantidine. At first he was taking 1.2 once a day and that stopped working so she upped it to 1.2 twice a day. It works really good at this dose. Also giving my son cereal and solids helps alot to b/c the heavier the food the better it will stay down."

uncle min replied: "I cant comment on the medication you mention although my first child had similar problems. All I can suggest is keep feeds/meals small and regular. I put books under the head of the cot to raise it slightly and this seemed to aid digestion and minimise any reflux issues. Think it was a case of growing out the problem as apposed to the medical profession/medication sorting it. I also believe mums (and dads) know best so above any advice you have been given trust your instincts."

rosiemadisen replied: "both of my girls suffered from reflux my oldest stopped breathing from aspirating it into her lungs, My ped. put them on losec worked great by one year they came off it . good luck"
